Les Elgart, in my opinion, is the best band from the Big Band epoque. I like mainly the arrangements of Charles Albertine. Anyway, the call-and-response was unique in this band. Please, bring more, whenever you have...
I am sure he was a great Father, and I knew personally what a great dance band he fronted. I am a dancer on a regular basis, but i would like to know why you are not placing his music on You tube.
Most talented people never give up their trade. I am not sure any more what retirement really is. I call my self retired, but keep on swingin. Anyway ,I loved seeing and dancing to his music.
I am not positive, I had forgotten about that until now. I danced to his band, up close and personal. He and brother Larry retired in this Bay area. swinginkatz
Les retired in Dallas and died there in the mid 90s. The ghost band still plays. Larry, lead alto, retired in Florida and until a short time ago was still playing in his 80s. Like the Dorsey boys, the Elgart bros weren't very happy together. They recorded together and separate.
If there is a "Hall of Fame" for wonderful big band arrangements, then those provided for the Les Elgart band should qualify.

Was les the one who did shopping cart serenade? I had a 10" record years ago with a bright yellow cover that I loved, seems like it was Les Elgart.
