1798,the french landed at killala in mayo,to instigate/reinforce the insurrection.Initially they were sucessful,defeating and driving the english from castlebar,for instance.However,the much needed re-inforcements never arrived from france ,and it turned into another glorious defeat at vinegar hill.

Yeah--the French almost didn't show up for us 20 years earlier. Thanks to God we were across the ocean from England and they got tired of our hit and run attacks.
