French bulldogs were actually first bred in England at the beginning of the industrial revolution. They are the result of cross-breeding a dwarf version of the English bulldog with the Chinese pug. The breeders marketed them as small, easily house-trained companion animals for factory workers to take to work. It's no coincidence that this breed is roughly the same size, proportion and is as expressive as a human toddler. Perfect companion animals.

@Tommygun264 I don't know why you made sucha difinitive statement. Most sources regard the French Bulldog's origins as a mystery. Some claim as you said, some say it is a cross between the french bull dog and a miniature french terrier. There is also scientific proof that it may have originated 600 years ago in south america (they found similar skeletons of dogs). However your right about the companionship :) I'm adopting one in just under 3 weeks! :D
