  • why must the JS series be soooo expensive?!?!?!!!??!?!

  • Of course joe is better than steve vai. Joe is the teacher of steve vai? what are you thinking?!

  • Seve Vai has a cooler guitar. His Jem guitars are soo cool. They are one of the best guitars in the world

  • @Stevin13 have u even seen Satch's js1200 or how bout the black dog and even his crystal planet o ya ur wasting yor money if u buy a Vai guitar u could by an Ibneaez 350 put a semore ducion and a demaszio with a edge pro Whammy and u got his guitar did i mention tht the Jem cost $1124 all of this total will lead u bout $800 the only thing u miss is the handle they wold sound nearly identical ad a js 1000 i found one used for 800 with case so it is badass man u would b bettr off with tht

  • Steve Vai > Paul Gilbert > Joe Satriani?

  • @stratoboy3 He ! was ! his teacher.. but now Steve Vai is better !

  • Thumbs up. Maybe more alliens become to visit our planet :D

  • ive searched the internet for three days and i cant find anything on scales and how they go together. I CANT EVEN FIGURE OUT WHAT "DIMINISHED" OR "DOMINANT" MEANS! if anyone knows where i can figure this whole "scale" and "key" thing out please help me. :(

  • @zomgitzakitteh whoa! First of all it can be very confusing at first. It almost sounds like you're a beginner? If so you should think about taking a few guitar lesson from a pro to teach you theory(scales, keys). If not, try wikipedia or other websites to give you an idea of different scales(modes= same thing). Try googling --> "ChordBook" hope this helps. :-)

  • @zomgitzakitteh Hi , when he says Diminished scale he´s talking about the Half - Whole Diminished scale, it goes very well with dominat chords ( a dominant chord is a major chord with a minor 7 and you can find him on the 5# degree of the major scale , the 4# degree of the melodic minor , 5# degree of the harmonic minor ... )

If you like , mail me so i can send you some great books about it , they´re really going to help you

  • @VanishaGlamChick6 please do send me the books. i didnt understand a word you said :)

i learn really fast and can play well, i just dont get the terminoligy, or method yet.

  • seria mejor si lo subtitularan al español

  • We can learn from this guy with only 1:25 of lesson , can you guys imagine studying for like 2 years with Joe.

Kirk was a lucky bastard :)

  • @VanishaGlamChick6 and kirk still sucks

  • @GhostsNSt00f indeed , but Vai Rocks

  • @VanishaGlamChick6 too rights

  • Practice every scale and mode in every key. Understand how to form triads in every scale and mode and you can become creative. Keep in mind im simplifying it. The possibilities are endless.

  • joe satriani vs anyone who plays the guitar JOE WINZ

  • i really need to learn the dorian, phrygian mixolidian and all that, i just lack creativity

  • I wish I had all his musical knowledge, gotta get studying

  • Minor what major huh?

  • He's a great teacher:D

  • As they say.. the genius is behind the guitar... So true

  • @asiantrix13 ya... I think? I play by ear. I should learn this scale stuff. :-P THANKS!

  • 12 are f*ckin retards

  • being a band geek really pays off :P i know exactly what he's talking about :P

  • 12 peaple dont have guitars.

  • @Johnvc100 and one guy's just plain stupid

  • @MsComputerSupport Surfing with the alien by Joe Satriani

  • Why do you dont have a Gibson les paul?;D its the best guitar

  • @MrFreek99 dude im sorry but theres definatly a reason he uses ibanez. its cause hes a ninja and that he wants to actually sound good, plus ibanez has floyd rose setup

  • @KENJITARshredder369 are you implying that Les Paul's sound bad?

  • @KENJITARshredder369 ahmm.... but for me is Gibson les Paul Axcess the best guitar ever xDD

  • somebody shd really get his copyrights and make a vocal song or something

  • @gnayiew95 watch chickenfoot...

  • He is really smart ha he knows his guitar , and the key is making your own music up not copying music from other artists, that is how you gain skill fast .

  • i bet the cameraman doesnt realize that hes standing in the presence of the great guitar god.

  • after watching his guitar skills, well, let me just say i need a new pair of pants.

  • wtf dat wasnt a lsson!

  • its good..

  • Who's Dorian?

  • @Xintros lol, that's so Dorian

  • I LOVE THE GUITAR

    what model is it?

  • @edddiux JS Chromeboy, sold out. I think if you bribe someone on ebay w/ more money than Satan has, you MIGHT get one. Just keep asking around bro.

  • hows your evil twin ha ha

  • I thought I was a guitar player. Now I just want to kill myself.

  • @sjdanthem LOL, I feel ya bud.

  • @sjdanthem NOOOO!!!

    don't do it

you have so much to live fir :L:P:P

  • why does he always play on an ibanez

  • @ nnifie

    Because Ibanez rules

  • IS THE Favorite marque of guitar

  • @nnifie why do you think?

  • @nnifie contract

  • it hes fav brand

  • joe is better than steve vai

  • @geenwand09 of course he is he taught steve vai

  • @geenwand09 he should be. vai was joes student

  • @geenwand09 it really depends, steve vai has a specialty which joesat doest have and sometimes joe has a specialty which steve vai doest have

  • joe taught steve vai

  • @mattjonesable but now Steve Vai is better

  • @geenwand09 NEVER !!!! !!!!!!

  • @geenwand09 Joe thouhgt Vai how to play

  • @geenwand09 , this is from wikipedia:

    Career

    [edit]1970s and 1980s

Vai began playing guitar in 1973, at the age of 13.[2] In 1974, he took guitar lessons from guitarist Joe Satriani

  • Apparently Joe literally knows everything on the guitar neck. Very skillful :)

  • was trying to figure out the tabs for the main part...the most reconized part anyway...and its 12g,10g,12d,10g,12g,9g bending and thats all i got so far if anyone can figure out the rest id be very greatful im trying to learn guitar and i want to atleast know how to play this part..

  • well the other part i got was 8d,10d,10a damn it joe i dont understand the jargen your speak yet...

  • @killer002099 lol @ your guitar notation.. i prefer sheet music .. however the way your doing it is kind of interesting

  • Whats absolutely insane about this video is that hes getting that sick tone with all of the following:

    1) His JS10th

    2) A Peavey JSX

    3) and a Crybaby Wah

  • @ShadowLancer128

    Vox Wah Pedal not Dunlop

  • im pretty sure he used a crybaby wah in this but your right a vox wah could do that too

  • @ShadowLancer128 actually he is playing though an Ibanez JS - Peavey Classic 30 - Cry baby Wah :) I'd love to have a Classic 30!

  • @KtZA7 whoa man that comment was 3 pages old, LOL! anyway, I think he's using a JSX, but nobody really knows. It just sounds like one to me because I played one on Crunch in a Guitar Center and I know what it sounded like.. that! anyway, you could be right too!

  • @ShadowLancer128 I don't want so sound like a j*rk :) but it's a Classic 30. You can see it on the bottom corner and it sounds like one too, plus the JSX Crunch is based on the Classic 50 distortion. Don't forget that Cry Baby wah-wahs tend to give every distortion their own distinct colour :) Take care dude!

  • @KtZA7 lol I didnt know that about the JSX, so you're probably right, even though I can't see it in the "bottom corner". w/e cheers, man.

  • @KtZA7 ok nvm! found it!

  • paul gilbert still has my edge but this guy rocks like hell (:

  • Woah a mistake at 0:16? Maybe he is human...

  • actually, not really a mistake..

you cant ALWAYS hit the pinched squeeled notes

  • he played it right

  • Funny, but I think perhaps what we're seeing is the difference between conscious competence and unconscious competence?? Satch is CERTAINLY competent either way, but it's probably a bit more difficult to play slower, for the camera for this tutorial vs. the auto-pilot he usually flys on! :-D

  • @brianjordan4life that's not a mistake he is mutting XDD

  • @brianjordan4life no all the wire are inside that hat ;)

  • @brianjordan4life HE ISNT °__°

  • @brianjordan4life

he was going for a harmonic... twice.... but failed XD

  • @brianjordan4life Still an Alien...

  • @brianjordan4life no cause he repicked the note... he isn't human ... HE IS INSANE!!!!!!!!!

  • @brianjordan4life He went for the pinch harmonic and cought the string with his pointer finger going down. rare mistake from Satch but he caught it.

  • @brianjordan4life nooooo hes a god!!!

  • @brianjordan4life hahahahaahahhahaha You rock in brooo :D

  • @brianjordan4life he probably did this without warming up... everyones gotta warm up.

  • @ilshockll Haha, nah hes not human. The guitar was the one who was not warmed up yet!

  • @brianjordan4life

naah god made a mistake in giving us to much talent like this that melts FACES

  • @brianjordan4life

Or that's what he wants you to think ;)

  • how dose he do it

  • joe is just great, and i think that's the catchiest riffs/licks ever made in the history of rock !!

that guitar god tought the great kirk hammet from metallica

PS: im not english so kick a lot in the grammatics so sorry ^^

  • I aint a pianist, Joe. Quit making my head hurt

  • very smart he can be blindfolded and he can know every note thats a true master. half the guitar player in other bands just play and dont learn

  • How in the hell does a blindfold make it harder to recognize notes. if anything it would make it easier

  • well for sound yeah, but if you a visual learner and you prefer to look were the notes are played then a blindfold is a bit of an obstical.

  • I guess, but im pretty sure most professional guitarists can play by ear

  • btw grimchain, i dunno y ur getting thumbs down, you're right about that last comment, even I can improv songs by ear now, after only one year of playing. Although Yes I am human and I am a bit of a visual learner, (Im an Industrial Designer for Christs Sake)

  • This guy is amazing he taught steve vai for god sakes

  • and marty friedman ( i think) and kirk (the rrrrrripah! as james hetfield calls him :D) hammett from MetallicA, among many many others

  • and steve vai O_o

  • I really wish I knew what he was talking about . :(

  • just music theory. key of G starts at the third fret of the low E string (fattest string). Just look up the pentatonic blues scale of G in google and you will see what the notes are.

Don't pay too much attention to modes (dorian, mixolydian, etc) that just means which note is the first one (in a nutshell)

  • That's the part that throws me off. I understand keys. I don't understand the dorian, mixolydian, etc crap that you mentioned. I've been playing guitar for something like 7-8 years, and I've just now finally decided I should learn the positions of all the scales. I've been putting it off forever.

  • The modes are basically just a different start position of the major scale. For example you play G Major Scale, but start from the A note you are playing A Dorian (Because Dorian is the 2nd mode of the Major Scale). There's plenty of lessons in youtube for those, for example Vinnie Moore's lesson which helped me a lot.

  • Check out Dave Weiner's "Riff of The Week" channel. He did a fantastic series covering the modes and their applications about a year ago. That boy knows his stuff, there's a reason he's been Vai's guitarist for the past 10 or so years. Hope it helps :)

  • hell no ....he's italian ....Im relieved :)

  • lol same i've put off ALL theory

  • me too, would you use scales for improvisation, say someones playing g chords you could I suppose play g major scale or diminished 7th scale etc. i THINK THATS HOW IT WORKS

  • @ph4ntasm ; LOL play guitar 2000 years like him and you will!!!

  • @ph4ntasm so did i then i found out about the dorian modes and other stuff. the least you need to know is that "modes" are scales emphasizing different notes. so if it was in the key of g for example, the dorian would mean you would play in the key of f, but emphasizing g notes. but you should look it up. this inspired me to learn about them and its really helpful (thanks to satch! hahaha)

  • it sound like he learn some stuff from jimi hendrix from that wah melody

  • Trust me man, he WORSHIPS Hendrix.

  • yes it does

  • what amp is satch using? and the wah?

  • he's probably using his signature vox wah, but as for the amp, im not sure.

  • The amp is a Peavey

  • the vox wah wasnt out when he released this in 2006

    hes using the Dunlop 535Q

  • the new vox wah is a reissue. maybe he has an original. hes just that awesome.

  • No, i know for a fact he used the Dunlop 535Q crybaby before his sig

  • ah. alright then thanks

  • His signature JSX peavey?

  • wonderful player, great guy

  • ibanez are your favorite guitar huh?

  • his tone is amazing

  • how is this a lesson, hes not telling us what to play

  • he is showing us how we are inferior to him

  • lol, true...

  • rofl

  • i disagree thats petrucci's job!

  • I think what he tried was just to show the guitar track of his songs with the camera focused on the guitar's neck so that advanced players could get it by ear and comfirmate their thoughts by watching this,

also he shows some of the note and scales' names xD

I'm as lost as you but it might help someone xD

  • If you want tabs just google it. He's showing how to use the right effects and explains how he does his tricks.

  • it would take too long to tell you every single fret.

  • has anyone noticed he looks kinda Ben Stiller-ish here?

  • yeah, XD

  • he does

  • satch is one of the greatest guitarists ever but i dont like his guitars but the surfer models and the black dog models i quite like

  • his name isnt satch

  • Joe Satriani = Joe Satch

    Joe Satch = Sach.

Everyone knows that. Well, I guess not...

  • He's so fucking intellegent.

I just wish i had a fraction of his talent

  • Yeah, it's very super hard to find a guitarist good as Satch.

  • its amazing isnt it? i saw him at one of the guitar center sessions n he said he writes most of his songs on the piano first n then transfers them to the guitar n tinkers with them til hes satisfied...its like he absorbed all of music into his brain lol...n hes also very articulate, i mean i like to think im pretty intelligent, but he was using words in his explanations that i have never heard before lol

  • Intelligent.

  • its his own ibanez js series

  • omg what guitar is he usingg in this vidd?

  • its the ibanez js1000

  • He´s using an Ibanez JS2PRM

    Wood body covered in aluminum.

  • actually, its dipped in chrome !

the luthiers at Ibanez , Bitch about it

cause its extremely difficult to do

they only do it for Satch

  • Actually the guitar with the chrome finish was the JS2CH a.k.a "Chrome Boy". As you said this process is difficult to do on a mass production model that´s why they tried aluminum on this 2005 JS2PRM and made only 60 of them.

  • thanks for enlightening me ,

  • please do you wont to became my guitar master?? ç_ç plzzzzzz ç_ç ( i'm italian :D )

  • YEAH Joe, you quite changed it from the year 87 :)))

  • he still plays as well

  • Kind of cool that a big star like that comes in to offer some insight on his work to run-of-the-mill axe players. He doesn't have to do that & a lot of guys would just put their feet up & not give a damn.

  • i agree what a great guy

  • i bet it would be so fun to jam with him

  • hahahaha

  • lol i wouldnt be able to. we'd be playing then he'd like start soloing and id just stop playing and sit there and gawk at his playing xD

  • dude you'd have to be SO good to jam with joe.

that would be amazing to jam with him though.

  • my head explodes too, reading it a month after, but it's all tecnicaly, theoreticaly correct.fuck! where was myhead at,when I came up with that shit?oh yeah,It was ganja harvest time mixed up with deep mode contemplation!

  • Any you look at it ,a good composing tool(modes)

  • I wonder if joe uses all his modal-harmonic knowledge to analise his compositions once they come to light or if he sits down and says

"well, today I'm going to compose something in c phrigyan that jumps to the minor sixth of its flat ninth (D flat)which is (b doubleflat)

with a little riff in f sharp which is the sharp fifth of c lydian,then...I'l modulate to c major with a c aolian dominant..."I hope not, couse I just tried it and though feasible it's crazy.Satch kicks ass.

  • if thats what he does.. he's a robot o.O

  • i kinda bet he does that. seriously if he's just jamming away he wouldn't come up with it.

  • oh fuck my head just exploded
