that plane is so amazing... i wish i had the money to have one.. rich people sure live awesome lives lol. cars they want, dont have to work all the time, planes they want.. money buys freedom
Thanks for the response on the WX solution, OzMirage. I am an Aussie living in the US - have been here for 10 years and considering a return to Oz. If I do , I am really going to struggle to fly IFR without XM weather in the cockpit. A game changer and one I cannot imagine being without now. And you're right 23 min refresh cycles are useless.
Hey man, your videos are awesome - thanks heaps for sharing. A couple of questions, I noticed you seem to run the engine regularly at around 70% power. There are all sorts of rumours about this engine, how it's highly stressed etc etc.... Lycoming recommend running at 65% or less as part of that SB they brought out. What is your experience with this engine so far? Also, do you run it LOP? By the way, you'll have to bring it over to NZ sometime - would love to see that beast over here!
Question for you OzMirage: I notice on your centre MFD that you do not have Traffic info. Do you have it on the 430s? (In the Cirrus the 430 will display the traffic info on the Avidyne MFD). Also, is there yet any solution for cockpit weather info in Oz? I know you don't have XM, but I had heard Avidyne was going to offer sat based Wx for the region
Firstly, the PA46 does have Traffic and it does display on the MFD - the locations where I am flying are very remote hense almost zero planes flying. But to answer your question yes aircraft do display on the MFD.
Avidyne have realised updated satilite weather for Australia, the only issue is it is very expensive at the moment and only have a refresh rate every 23 minutes, which when a strong line of thunderstorms are moving through an area - 23 minutes is useless.
I am thinking about buying either a Mirage or a TBM. I was wondering since you have flown both can give me your opinion on the matter of which is the better in terms of pilot comfort and, and more importantty, the difference in cockpit noise levels. I am a big fan of comfort. I would tend towards the turbine (I live in Colorado and fly over 14,000 ft moutain terrian) but on the other hand, if the mirage environment is more "cockpit friendly", that would be a major factor to me.
Hi Sorry for the delay in responding, in regard to the environment you fly in, I would recommend the TBM is price is not an issue. I have only flown a C2 TBM once and the climb, decent, speed and cabin comfort are much better than Piper. The TBM is a much bigger aircraft, but is also much more expensive.
Is this plane anything like a piper cherokee 6 because I will be learning to flying in a cherokee 6. Also is it just me or did you land while going too fast? Great job though!
Hey - The PA46 is a fair bit larger than the Cherokee 6 and naturally a lot faster. The Ch6 is also fixed gear but it is a great solid aircraft, you will enjoy flying it.
In regard to the fast landing, we were given a late change of runway which caused us to decend much quicker and I may have been 5 knts to fast (I cannot remember).
Hi - I am in Katherine at least 3 to 4 times a year, normally 1 or 2 days at a time. Last time I was there was the 15th of July and was in town for 1 week. Will try and catch up with you next time I am in YPTN.
Sounds good! Be sure to let me know the next time your here, would be great to see ZMM in the flesh. Do you come up in the wet season? It is fast approaching : P
Hi P - yes I am normally in Katherine at least twice a year during the wet and twice during the dry. That's the main reason I purchased the Mirage - FL250 and Radar.
Very normal in these aircraft, basically you need to change tanks every 20gals so you do not get a fuel imbalance - the light is just a reminder when you forget to change tanks and will not go out until the tanks are equalized again. Nothing dangerious about the warning.
For the center line you are correct I do get a bit lazy with that, however, not an excuse if you have never flown a mirage before it has a 350hp twin turbo engine which accounts for considerable yaw on t/off, also checking systems on roll and not trying to overboost the engine means my eyes are always darting from runway to engine page on MFD. The Yaw Dampner on this plane is not working correctly and needs fixing, this will help keep it straight once fixed
hold on while i pull out my E6B 2 get translate the miles per minute 2 NMPH.....and y dont u put that in GPH
if i can land a TBM 700 with no yaw damper then you should b able 2 land a 350 horse mirage
wat i do is i do my system scan on downwind and the from then im only focusing on the airspeed indicator and the end of the runway with my touch down point marked
not to mention if you have never flown a 350 horse aircraft before you should not be up in it alone
I thought with the centre line you where referring to take off, however with landing you are correct I am a bit lazy with the centre line, if it's makes you happy I will try and be more diligent in the future. Gosh so picky.... As for the numbers you want I just tell me what you want and I will do my best to get it to you, it may take me a day or two as I am very busy at the moment with work. As for what I have flown, I have a lot of hours in B58 and Chieftan, limited time in Meridian and TBM.
A CFI at age 19/20 wow you have done well indeed - congrats on that.
In Aust most work with Litres, however my bird will burn around 23 gals per hour at FL250 and cruise at 205 knts - therefore cover around 205nm in 1 hour at zero wind.
I own this aircraft, purchased it new and have done my familiarization training in it. I use the aircraft for my companies work, which means I only fly every 2 weeks or so, not every day, so my skills will not be as polished as someone who flies on a nearly everyday basis ( I gather like yourself ). However laziness is no excuse and I will make sure to be more diligent in the future.
well what i found that if you do pattern work twice a month with at least 10 touch and goes then you will always be able to have proficient landings and take offs
also at least once every other month fly with a another pilot so you dont develop bad habits with your to/landings
Good advice will take it on board - I cuurently twice a year with a CFI (once for practise aand once for my IFR renewal) doing all the approaches, but not a lot of work on anything else. Will get him to give me the once over from the ground up next time we fly.

One question, my first sim was the FLY! of 1999 nad it had the Malibu.
I never understand how to adjust the pressuration control.
(I allways had "cabine alt" warning in cockpit)
Can you explain me how do set for example FL250 ?
Thanks and sorry for my poor English, I'm Spanish.

Oh I preffer the last cockpit before the G1000, the "old" cockpit
onecheman 2 years ago
Once you spend some time behind glass you will not want the old guages - trust me - but everyone to their own.

Also this cockpit is Avidyne not G1000.

what is the to distance / performance and the landing performance for this aircraft
and as an instructor i cant help it but
stay on the gosh darn center line
FireFighterrock24 2 years ago
3.4nm per minute or 8.9nm per gal
