I cant imagine this movie without this soundtrack! This is the best movie ive ever seen!Everyone says it sucked, but if that where true it would have made millions in theaters and the critics would have loved it! "Im a pimp... and pimps dont commit suicide"
for years i've been trying to find the first song that plays as soon as the credits roll. i've just looked the album up on itunes and it's not even on the album!

@nelandquinten WE ARE TAKING THE ATM TO MEXICO!!! hahaha best part... i bought this too, and look for ANY excuse to watch it... this donnie darko, fight club, slc punk and fear & loathing... they need to make more movies like this...
@ckyfan8291 correction on that last part: Richard Kelly needs to make more movies like this. although Kelly does ignore the psycedelic film styles resembling that of Tony Scott, and has his wits on strange sci-fi crime scents, only richard kelly could invision such a provocative and baffling display that is the genius of Southland Tales.
but you're absolutly right, fight club and fear and loathing are way up there
@nelandquinten idk im not so much a fanboy of individual producers/directors etc. i just like movies that make you think, or make you have to watch the movie again; from The Game with Michael Douglas to Total Recall with Arnold Schwarzenegger, to movies like Stay with Ewan Mcgregor and The Matrix... southland tales was great, but cluttered and a little too farfetched... Southland just brings comedy into it which makes it AMAZING...
@lulec81 yeah, but back then in the bible days tht wasnt such a holy place either, yeah they had churches and kings everywhere but sin was just as bad as it is in the movie
one of the main problems i had with this movie was that it combined chrisitnaity with cussing, sexual themes (altho no actual nudity or sex, thank goodness) and other bad stuff. Still, it's a refreshing, epic take on the utlimate ending battle of all mankind. A lot like Donny Darko. I've never seen DArko but I've heard that's what it's about.
Im not gonna lie..i thought the movie was excellent but i didnt really get it..but i understood it mostly..but the soundtrack was Amazing and how the director filmed it with the lighting and stuff like in the morning where the sky was really blue with that guy on sniper and a beautiful song was playing...excellent
I dont know what it is, but this movie has some kind of power over me. I absolutely love it! One of my all time favs, meanwhile I showed it to a group of friends, not one person liked it....it was kinda awkward lol
i know how you feel, i cant find one person who has seen it. those other people? they just dont understand how moving this film is. it is unexplainable.
Lord knows I've tried to make sense of it and I think I got some of the plot points, but there is just so much intentional imagery that my head almost explodes! It was on last night,....I watched it again lol I recommend the graphic novel for all those who are fans of the movie...answers some questions, but poses all new ones!
i think i can explain it to you a bit. The entire story is basically the New Testament beginning and the Ending (Revelations) clashing. Thats why he kept on quoting bible verses. Boxer Santaros "aka" Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, was playing as the messenger of God, but the thing is he thought he was the Messiah but he found out it was teh cop who really was it. The gray horse named Death (the ice cream truck that sold guns) would also be the one that would bring around the new Jerusalem.
If you listen to the story, with a bible next to you, you could start finding out some key points and then try to fill in the blanks. Movie is still bloody confusin
This song puts the idea of better things ahead into my mind. Like you just failed, lost or gave up... and then this song plays inciting a beginning towards better things.

Favorite quotes from the movie:
Tavener: "We're taking the ATM machine to Mexico."
Santaros: "This is an epic Los Angeles crime saga!"
Tavener: "And you're researching your role? You play a cop?"
Zorra: "Now that was loud, and that was funny."
Oh my god I loved this movie. Got it on DVD and watch it whenever i can. Really a masterpiece :)

@lulec81 The bible didn't play out just in the holiest of places.
