  • Whoa. Is your piano flat?

  • Get a haircut

  • Beautiful.

  • wow!. this is the only thing i can say.!! i also love this song very much~ thank you for sharing!~

  • You are amazing. This is my favorite piano song. I think it would sound a little better if you slowed down though. You play so fast I feel like you do not get to experience all the great harmonies.

  • Hi. This is usually heard slower but it is actually marked 'Andante', rather than 'Molto Adagio' (as usually played). Cellists can pull off a slower tempo (as the cello sustains) but Saint-Saens almost certainly would have expected more flow to the piece. Godowksy suggested that this is only supposed to last two minutes! There are a places where I would like to have stretched the sound out a little more to reveal certain details, but I wouldn't personally want to reduce the prevailing tempo.

  • mind if you provide the URL for this sheet? =D thanks

  • I never knew this beautiful Godowsky transcription could be banged the bejeezus out of. Every not is mf or louder; no subtlety, no voicing.

  • Unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury of a well-regulated Steinway or Fazioli. When you play this in vicinity of the suggested tempo on a 100 year old upright piano that has never undergone restoration work, there is a limit to how much it is possible to subdue the accompaniment figurations, no matter how extensively one exaggerates. As for 'no voicing' try Libetta- who shows absolutely no interest whatsoever in revealing the beautiful counterpoint that Godowsky added.

  • ah, lovely, i love how Godowsky uses so many contrapuntalities in his compositions

  • My ... you play that GOOD!!!

  • very personal interpreation of this piece!! completeley different from the existing recordings, one word: bravo!!!

  • great performance anyway :)

  • help!! where can I get the sheet music for this version?

  • Very, very nice. The inner darkness and yearning is Rachmaninovesque and you convice, and the reason for this [apart from the odd technical hiccup] is because you play from the heart, and this wins ....... ALWAYS!!!

  • best version of this piece would be that of Albert Tiu's. anyone here heard it already? it's even better than cherkassky's, no joke!

  • One of my fav pieces. Would love to see you record it via a proper video camera so it'd sound proper.

Nevertheless, one of the best played on youtube.

  • this is awesome~ I can never arranged anything, also, its beautifully arranged! you're truly talented =] please keep up the great work ^^

  • Bravo! I honestly dont see why this was given only 2 stars.

  • I DO LOVE YOU PLAYING SAINT-SäENS... thank you very much..you re very sweet and kindly to offer to all youtube comunity this difficult piano music.

  • and haha I translated that German guy's comments: "To just play it as a kitchen woman without excitements of the beautiful noise" and "Pardon did not want to hurt I you. To place but attempts more truth in your interpretations. You play the excitement as mécanic. A musician is not machine which can be repeated. Work, more modest work and, i.e. is not APPROX. to impress suffering not worth attempts."

  • wow, that is beautiful!

nice arrangement!! very umm.. fluttery :P you're really good!!!

  • Thanks. This can certainly be played rather better (look at Cherkassky), but I'm not sure what the hell that German guy was on about. There's nothing worse than people that use pompous yet vague language (as though they have something deeply profound to say) when they can't make a single specific point about the music itself.

  • yeah, I hate that! anyway... whatever he might have meant was just STUPID... I bet he doesn't even play piano... And i could certainly not play it that well myself!! I've been working on a less "fluttery" solo version of the Swan for some time now but your clip makes me want to take it further lol... where did you get that sheet music??

  • It was on a website for a while but the site disappeared recently, I'm afraid. I don't think I have the file for it anywhere. There's also an arrangement by Siloti which is more straight. Rachmaninoff recorded that one. There's some guy that runs a Godowsky site with downloads of various Chopin etude arrangements. You could try him.

  • Oh, and by the way, I watched that Cherkassky thing and um.... I actually have to say I think you got the melody in the right hand ...OUT a lot better than he did... to me his version of it had a lot more right hand than it should... to say something critical though, maybe you could work a little on the ritardandos, and differences between forte and piano... as in f.ex the "scales" upwards to the high peaks could be a bit more dramatic...

  • grr... I'm sorry -- I meant that Cherkassky's "version" had more LEFT hand than it should... not right hand... thanks for the tip anyway, I'll be sure to check it out!!

  • That's a fair point. It's tricky in this piece though, because as you reach the high-point of the phrase an imitation begins in the tenor part. Personally I try to bring out the new voice very clearly, but to do so does takes attention from the top. It's hard to get the balance.

  • yeah, it's not easy, i've had to work a lot on it myself hehe.... the whole thing is DAMN good though!! great work!! :D how long have you played??

  • Since I was about 7 I think, but I was rubbish for years. I only did grade 8 at 17 I think and I was still really crap then. Technique never came naturally but I've improved it over the last 2-3 years.

  • This explains rather a lot. Are you sure about the part after "but" in the last sentence?

  • Hmmm. Another 'friendly' comment! Do you just like to make cheap quips or do have anything to say about the music?

  • Ok, I'll admit that the comment is wrong-headed. I think you're playing it in an older style, that style is very appropriate for this music, and you pull it off nicely. I think it deserves more than 3 stars, but people are put off by the sound of the piano and don't bother with the performance. You're trying to do something with the inner voices instead of just dashing them off dutifully like the Katt person who also has a video of this piece. Nice job.

  • Hi can you send me the sheet music!

    Bye

  • You've got some nerve asking for that, after leaving rude comments on my films because I told you that I don't have permission to give you the Jarrett transcription (and gave you the transcriber's details).

Even if I had the copy, I certainly wouldn't be in any hurry to send it to you.

  • The German of that guy is even more erratic than my English.

  • dude you suck

  • dude you blow

  • it sounds like Rachmaninov.very suited to you but where s the dressing gown?

  • I actually got dressed that day for once. Have you seen the film of Cherkassky playing this?

  • I love you guys!!!
