As Obi Wan would say: "More civilized times". Today many feminist and feminazis talk about women's rights and dignity, IMO the ladies of the 40's to 60's had all the rights and more dignity than any modern woman (notice how I don't speak of modern day ladies). I should have been born half a century before and be spared the agony of living in a society where values, culture, sound money, good taste and of course really beautiful ladies are virtually extinct. Maybe in another life!
That looks pretty cool. I'm cast in my college production Zoot Suit and I have to do a character analysis. I've got a very small part, just got to "create a character" the director says. I'm white and very conservative, and he says I just need to research how a conservative white woman would be taking all this zoot suit riot stuff in. I'm supposed to be in the jury, so I guess I also have to tell what was going through my character's mind in the jury when (my character) found them guilty, etc.
i missed out on all this by not being born till the late 60's. Many women don't know how to dress or act like ladies. I've seen some girls in dresses and heels who look like you might have dressed up a cow with the way they walk and act. we may have gained equal rights for women and i applaud that, but we also have lost alot of our femininity. we need to bring back charm and beauty classes.
yes, the short shorts now are controversial, but back in that decade the corsets and all the extra padding and knee-short skirts could have been seen as controversial too. no era was perfect, no human being is classy all the time. no matter how far back in time you go people were always rebellious and testing the limits of this society we live in. TRY AND RESPECT YOUR ERA AS MUCH AS YOU RESPECT THE PAST.
oh how i long for the days when women could be stylish AND beautiful without showing boobs, bellies or bums!
fashion is GHASTLY, for the most part; i can't STAND short shorts & seeing boobs about to fall out of their too-small singlet tops! & don't get me started on muffin tops! LADIES! sensible fashion makes you more attractive! a woman who takes pride in her modest appearance is worth more than diamonds! (for the record, im 24y.o)
lovely video, great music & wonderful fashion. Kudos!
The shorter dresses look like early 40s with the shorter hems, but they have pleats that would disappear under later war restrictions. America was not in World War II until Dec. 8, 1941.
The clip of the cinched waist and hip pads are for Christian Dior's New Look, 1947.
ahhh....the desent time's... good music, nice fashion, typical lifestyles, i wish i would have been born in the turn of the century, like samantha parkington
the "underwear" looked like it need a manual, and technician to put it on, my mother told my grandmother had a corset/girdle she used to wear and that had whalebone in it, she said it was very uncomfortable , almost painful to wear she also said it ruined her health being so constricted like that, i'm surpirsed they did not show those dress shields, smelly awful things , give thanks for decent hygeine products, thx for the video
LOVE IT!!! if only those fashions were bk with us now!. 21st century has alot to live up2 when it comes to 40 fashions and this era in general :)))))))).

this isn't 1940s fashion. During World War 2, there was barely enough fabric to make clothing. They mended and recycled everything. Hems were at the knee or above and shoes were made of cork. I bet this is either the 1950's "New Age" or the 1930s
well this is actualy 1940's fashion. your right about everything was recyled but these clips are all produced to show of the newest fashion of the time. and the fashion industy was still going on even during ww2
@fantastico4123 I think you probably meant Christian Dior's "New Look" introduced in 1947 after hostilities ended. What you see here is very definitely wartime fashion...and how fabulous it looks! A lot of people were still buying fabrics and making their own clothes and the better off continued purchasing clothing....and shoes were not all cork and wedges - there were very elegant leather styles around if you could afford them!
@fantastico4123 before pretending to be a fashion historian, do more research. not all heels were made of cork and evening hem lengths were at their original, pre-war floor-length. i wont even go on.
@fantastico4123 Yes, darling, I agree with your commentator. First, when in doubt of periods (with legit film such as this) look at the hair. The decade hair is very distinctive. And, what's more, now a days, do a lot of people you run into now wearing what you see in fashion shows?
I'm so glad people don't wear those hideous fur coats anymore. the only people i see wearing them now are prostitues and drag queens. 30 minks, dogs or seals skinned alive for each of those women to strut and pose in a trashy coat how frivolous and calous. but aside from that its a great clip, thanks for uploading.
@0madmadame i see nothing wrong with wearing vintage furs its a beautiful part of history i wear vintage fur does that mean im a drag queen or prostitute im mean when you think about it they had a different mind set about fur back then i dont support new furs but there is nothing wrong with vintage furs if you came across marylin monroe's fur coat from the 40's would you throw away cause its fur plus the animal would have been dead by now anyways
wow, stunningly beautiful. I remember my mother's descriptions of clothes she liked . One word that stands out is "snazzy" . I am a straight male but I used to love it when my mother would bring clothes home trying to decide which to keep for the different seasons. It was alot of fun to see her enjoy herself trying on the different outfits. Back then some of the stores would even deliver clothes for the women to try on and then send someone take the clothes back that were not kept. another era

Whoa! you can't tell me the woman who wears the corset has all of her ribs O.O
Toocrazyforthisworld 8 months ago
@Toocrazyforthisworld Shes does. Rib removal was rare and the only thing the corset does to her already thin body is give her the wasp waist

its not..i can tell by the ladies hairstyles and look of the clothing.
it definately is the 40s.
but i know what u mean..though some designers may not have cared less about the war and gorged out in luxuries.
