To add to the foregoing, Glenn Gould used to maintain that the the modern concert grand had far too large a range of tonal colours. An old piano like the one here has the effect of "clipping the the pianist's wings" as regards expressive control over the instrument - good thing with a lot of Bach's music
Yes indeed a fine rendition of this. In Bach's day all keyboard instruments were tuned to a lower pitch than those of today. The tuning temperaments employed back then would sound out-of-tune to us today - but this out-of-tuneness only seems to enhance this particular performance!
of all the keyboard performances currently available on youtube, I like yours best. That out of tune old piano shows that sheer musicianship wins out over everything else. I like your performance very much, regardless of the instrument. Frankly Zoltan Kocsis on Philips is a pedestrian performing amateur compared to your performance on this tired old upright piano.
@MrLittlegate it's in a forgotten little room in Barton Hall on the Cornell Campus. It looked like they were renovating it though so I wonder if the piano is still there...
Only the versatility of Bach, can something sounds so beautiful on just about any instrument, in tune or out of tune.

Awesome. Love the old piano look and sound almost as if forgotten!

Where was that? That old girl has at one time been in concert pitch - only some of the finest pianos can achieve that.
