I'm a Hebrew speaker so I know that word (which, BTW, used to mean simply "a disaster", but no one uses it like that anymore). In Hebrew, shoah is also used in the nuclear context: "Shoah Garinit". So there's very little difference between English and Hebrew in that regard. There's no giant bogeyman trying to make up new meanings for words just to scare you. Get over it already.
