I was in a student group called Close Up which takes students who are active and interested in Politics on a tour of DC and participate in discussions and debates etc and one of our stops was a Ralph Nader lecture. I for one was very excited but at the end disappointed. The lecture was a very cynical one and one that did not encourage or enlighten. At the end of the lecture his "people" herded us over to a table where he would sell us one of his many books just like a contemporary politician.

The reason he went after American automakers in 'Unsafe at Any Speed' was because Ford (I think it was the Pinto if I'm not mistaken) was KILLING people. At the time that book was published, American market share in this country was over 60%. Add that to what was happening with Ford and it only made sense to go after our companies. It isn't anti-American to try to make our cars safer.

I agree with you about Gore, Chris. Where we part company is Obama. It wasn't that Obama was a good candidate it was that McCain was a terrible candidate. McCain's age brought up the possibility of his dying in office. The thought of Sarah Palin becoming President overnight scared the voters ( as well it should have ). McCain also carried the baggage of the Bush administration ( Iraq, the failing economy ) They labelled him Mc-Same because he did not admit to Bush's failure as a President.

Bush's increasingly expensive ( in dollars and lives ) war on terror, people losing their homes through a mortgage meltdown, long established American companies going under, the general ineptness of the government in handling a natural disaster

( Hurricane Katrina). Millions of dollars and thousands of lives could have been saved if the government had the foresight to build up the levies.

Yea. You're right. McCain was killed by his connection with Bush. I don't think he trully supported Bush's policies the way they were carried out, but he had to keep the Republican party support to have any chance. Thats why he had to have Palin, when he really wanted Leiberman.

We had the perfect kind of politician running for president in the last two elections. His name? Dennis Kucinich. I had voted for Nader in the past though. I dream, one day the people of the United States will wake up and vote for a man of the people. Obama wasn't my first choice but he was better than the other likely candidates.

I too favored Kucinich over all because he was my best political match, and once he dropped from the race I decided I must go with the most likely candidate who would derail the GOP. And experience in my book became the least important qualification because it's the experience of the crooks that has screwed up our country.
