  • I too played this hymn when I heard about all the kids killed in Norway by that mad man. I've enjoyed visiting Norway (years ago) and was raised in a church that began as part of the Norwegian Lutheran Church in America. We sang this tune....so I know it well. I pray for peace and healing for the families and friends of those who were killed and for all Norway. No country does so much good in the world on a per capita basis!

  • Remembering Norway on this most tragic day and all respects. ALL RESPECTS to Norwegians everywhere and to my fellow Americans of Norwegian Descent I know this hits home with you. Many respects and prayers for Norway!

  • You can actually hear the canons from the Akershus castle/fortress in the background celebrating the King of Norways birthday.

  • It was song on the church service attended by H.M the King and his family on his 70 th birtday. Very moving, so many differend choirs... It's the national psalm of Norway.

  • @hertuginnen This clips is from the actual church service attended by the Norwegian King and his royal family in connection with his 70 th birtday, very moving

  • Even though I'm Australian and don't understand a word, this is still a beautiful stirring hymn. Language isn't necessary to appreciate a beautiful patriotic song.

  • Beautiful!

  • 1.

    Gud signe vaart dyre Fedraland

Og lat det som Hagen bløma!

Lat lysa din Fred fraa Fjell til Strand

    Og Vetter fyr Vaarsol røma!

Lat Folket som Brøder saman bu,

Som Kristne det kann seg søma!

  • 2.

Vaart Heimland i Myrker lenge laag,

    Og Vankunna Ljoset gjøymde.

Men Gud, du i Naade til oss saag,

    Din Kjærleik oss ikkje gløymde:

Du sende ditt Ord til Norigs Fjell,

    Og Ljos yver Landet strøymde.

  • 3.

    Og Vetteren varer lenge;

Men Ljoset og Livet i ditt Ord

    Det ingen kann setja Stenge.

Um Fjellet er høgt og Dalen trong,

Ditt Ord heve daa sitt Gjenge.

  • 4.

So blømde vaart Land i Ljos og Fred,

Det grødde so grønt i Lider,

Men atter seig Natt paa Landet ned

    Med Trældom og tunge Tider.

Og Folket det sukkad etter Ljos,

    Og du lyste upp umsider.

    Vil Gud ikkje vera Bygningsmann,

    Me faafengt paa Huset byggja.

Vil Gud ikkje verja By og Land,

    Kann Vaktmann oss ikkje tryggja.

So vakta oss, Gud, so me kann bu

I Heimen med Fred og Hyggja!

No er det i Norig atter Dag

Med Vaarsol og Song i Skogen.

Um Sædet enn gror paa ymist Lag,

    Det brydder daa etter Plogen.

So signe daa Gud det gode Saad,

Til Groren ein Gong er mogen!

  • How dare you have an argument amongst our own ranks while this song is on?

    Silence!

  • I cannot beleave how some of you people act I am so proud of that fact that i have norsk blood in me and you people are acting like dumbass mother fuckers I hope you are shot down in flames!

  • Oh shit.. TO much christianity in here.. Im out of here faster then Thors Lightnings!!

  • Are you a swede? If so, show some respect for MY country! Don't be such an ass, we'll hunt you down and do our will with you....

  • Come here then you weakling! And i will sacrifice you to Oden at the closest Oak tree! To honour my ancestors!

Bloodeagle ritual is what awaits you here! In the dark woods of Uppland!

  • Shithead? My God's name is Odin - not Oden! And please don't try to be something you are not. If you knew me you would shit your pants. Took me 5 minutes to get your IP adress. Say hello from me to my FRIENDS in my CLUB who visit you very soon!

  • Soon the armies of Freds Farsa will march down your frontdoor, beg for forgiveness or be damned in the deepest circle of freds farsas hell forever

  • silence you heathen!

  • Blasphemy! Oden will eat your soul.

  • The fact that the video is a called the national *hymn* should have been a hint...

  • God redde for konge og skandinavia!

    Lenge leve Fedrelandet!

God save the king and scandinavia!

    Long live the Fatherland!

  • \Stunningly beautiful!

  • The melody is written by danish composer C.E.F. Weyse, but the text to this particular song is written by Elias Blix, a norwegian.

  • Pah! Give us back the casket that contained the body of Olav the Holy, you know the one studded with Norwegian crown jewels, emeralds, gold and silver that you stole when you looted Nidaros in the 1540s>>>>

Well, they gave back his right arm. If you go to the Catholic Cathedral in Oslo you will see his arm in a glass and brass case near the altar. I saw it there when I was visiting Norway in 2003 and in 2007.

    From Sydney

    Mike

    Kings army in Spelet 2007

    Sanct, Olav. Rex Perpetuum Norvegiae

  • hehehe - I like you sir ;)

  • Wow. I was surprised to find this on youtube. We were 400 singers that day, in the Trinity Church in Oslo, celebrating the king's 70th birtday. The sound was amazing, though the quality of filming from a tv-set doensn't quite give it justice.

  • It's a danish song written by N.F.S Grundtvig in 1826

  • Pah! Give us back the casket that contained the body of Olav the Holy, you know the one studded with Norwegian crown jewels, emeralds, gold and silver that you stole when you looted Nidaros in the 1540s

  • + God Save Norway & The King....and Let Chist Conquer Sin & Save All Men! :)

  • I'm Georgian.... and I live in Tbilisi... But I Love Norway as my own country... I think that it's the most great country in the world... :) It's amazing video and I can't watch it without great emotions

  • God Bless Norway!

  • Incidently, I once saw a copy of the document that my great grandfather was required to sign upon entering the U.S. Basically, it was a general form issued to everyone from anywhere and they would simply fill in the blank. I remember reading the part of this form that stated that he was renouncing his allegiance to the King of Norway (handwritten on the line). I've often wondered how difficult it was for him to bring himself to sign this paper! :-)

  • This *is* a great video!! I also am a Norwegian American living in Minnesota. Many of us retain great pride in our heritage (This video certainly stirred that in me!) Those who came before us moved to the U.S. *not* due to governmental persecution, but rather due to desperate economic factors of the time. Perhaps this is why our hearts still tie us to Norway. Thanks for posting this video!

  • One people, one race, one nation. NICE!

  • Hvor er Den Hellige Ånd? Ikke for religion, hvis Jesus!

  • Lenge leve kongen!

  • Long Live The King!

  • Well I love Norway, and the Norwegian people. I had a great time when my high school visited there. It's not odd that the songs are multi-national. Norway's first modern king HM King Haakon VII started life as a Prince of Denmark, married to Princess Maud of the UK a daughter of HM King Edward VII. Music is music, it's international.

  • This is so incredibly cool. I am a 4th century Norwegian living in Minnesota.

  • 4th century? Nice trace indeed ;). My grandfather had 7 brothers who moved to new jersey.

Og flertallet i landet her gir blaffen i nynorsk.

  • i find it nrk nettv but i cant find full service of king harald 70 birthday write in norway language

  • did you have full service of king harald v 70 birthday ?pleaese and thank you and what is god bless our prescious fatherland mean
