  • I wish he'd been pushed on what he meant by 'objective they were much poorer'. After all one can be objectively poorer in relative terms (relative to the richer folks in society) or objectively poorer in absolute terms and depending on which is true it changes how reasonable it is to feel hard done by. For example; in some ways you are better off than medieval monarchs, in other ways you are worse off. If people are relatively poorer now (even if not absolutely) it's fair to be angry about it.

  • I was with him on the 13th of July, this year. I went to see him in his office in MIT.

Great guy! I could only get ten minutes with him, but I hope we get to meet again and for much longer.

  • @toseeornot2see He allows walk in visits?

  • @sporganmurloc Oh, no, not walk in visits. I had to get in touch with his assistant months in advance.

I had a very strict schedule, as I was visiting the States at the time. I guess you can contact them and ask at Chomsky@mit.edu.

If you live in the States, maybe you could get a better and much longer meeting with him.

  • @toseeornot2see I see. Thanks for explaining :)

  • Terrifying.

  • noam chomsky just said he doesnt hear anything constructive from the tea party. does he understand when the tea party started? during ron paul's 07 bid for president when his followers sent tea bags with their checks to federal reserve for the income taxes on april 15, 2008. this is how the movement got the name. if noam chomsky is saying he hasn't heard anything constructive from ron paul, the man has either not heard ron paul speak. EVER or he's lying.paul is the only one offering solutions

  • @habibimaya Their name and cause was hijacked by Fox News. I agree with Ron Paul on auditing the Fed, ending the CIA, etc, but the Glen Beck crowd doesn't seem to put nearly as much emphasis on all that. They're really anti-labor, play right into the hands of globalists, and have turned it into a Republican vs. Democrat fight. I think both parties need to go, because they do the exact same things.

  • @JNathanK2011 glenn beck is a pid fascist shill. who are you talking about when you refer to glenn beck crowd. all glenn beck used to do is laugh and make fun of ron paul because he's a paid fascist shill to speek some one elses thoughts. have you heard the latest rant from rush limbaugh on ron paul. i loved it. he said this man is going to destroy the party. i pray to god it happens. both parties need each other to surviive. dems will fight to keep reps relevant. they have to or they will go

  • @habibimaya I'll look that all up. Yah, the democrats and republicans pretty much need each other to maintain the illusion to the public that they're relevant.

  • Chomsky offers the tea party sympathy and understanding----they'd just spit in his face and say he's a commie scumbag

  • this is soooo cool. long live the chom

  • When was Noam Chomsky on NPR radio!? I can't believe this crap!

  • Don't think a self-proclaimed anarchist would welcome the title of 'Lord of the Left.'

  • @theodorewolfgang May I ask why? Are you confusing anarchist with what is called a "libertarian" in the US? Cause anarchism, going back the 19th century and the first Socialist Internationale, has always been on the left. What is called anarchist in the US is usually the opposite of what anarchist means elsewhere.

  • @Michaeltickledick No confusion, my man. My complaint is with the title of 'Lord', which arbitrarily assigns NC undue power as some sort of all-knowing authority figure. I'm sure NC himself would dissuade anyone from referring to him or any other person (intellectual or otherwise) as such.

  • @theodorewolfgang Its a false paradigm anymore. Its really there to make people think there's real political discourse going on. Its divide and conquer at its finest, and the last thing the elites, the bankers, the multi-national corporations, the media moguls, the war profiteers want is people agreeing on things. In all truth, most people have a combination of liberal and conservative beliefs. I think even Noam's said this about himself. Its not as black and white as the media leads us to think.

  • @theodorewolfgang i thought he described himself as an libertarian socialist?

  • @mmantech That's mainly because people don't really understand what the word 'anarchism' means in a political context. Strictly speaking I believe he's an anarcho-syndicalist. But the distinction, absent details, between that an 'libertarian socialism' is pretty much non-existent; it's just that 'anarcho-' carries too much baggage (rather like the way 'liberal' is coming to be used in the states. I swear every time I see 'liberal' equated with 'socialist' I worry my head will explode).
