I guess when the people were re-making this game they sort of knew that people could sequence break the slide star by jumping, then air kicking off the area above onto that ledge to easily get the star

I didn't do the slide, what I did was I took Luigi to the top, got his power flower, and rushed down to the level with that purple that picks you up and throws you and I did a back flip over the edge and twirled through the fence.
