Yeah, I don't think they're really making a movie out of this. I kinda hope they don't with this one, you know? If you want a movie that kind of has a similar feel to the Forgotten Soldier, there was a German by the same people who did Das Boot called Stalingrad.

For my money it was a million times better than Enemy at the Gates with that jack off Jude Law.

There supposedly is a movie based on "The Forgotten Soldier" in pre-production at the moment. Paul Verhoeven is supposed to direct it. However, there have been no news about it for a couple of months now.

I've read somewhere that the film project has been cancelled. Does anyone hear know about that or is it still going ahead. Either way the book was brilliant or I will definitely watch the film if it is produced.

I want this movie to come out in the USA, I read the book, and it almost made me cry, made me laugh, made me pissed off, everything; It sickens me that people would forget about German soldiers just because they were fighting against us. They weren't all Nazis, the ones that were were mostly brainwashed, and the others were simply forced into it (for the most part).

sorry but why does everyone insist that most germans in the wermacht were brainwashed or forced into it? they wanted to fight for their country, to make up for the national humiliation after ww1. and alot of them DID believe in nazi ideology. im not calling them evil, im sure most of us would have done the same

I read the book decades ago when I was young. it is about a French-German Alastatian or Loarrainer (whatever, I forget) that serves in the German railway organization and then volunteers for duty in the Gross Deutchland Division and goes to the Ost Front for a long time and luckily survives.

I have been reading ww2 books the last few months Iwo, Dday, Tarawa, and someone told me about this book and by far the best book about a soldiers life and before this book I had just finished Goodbye Darkness

It'll have to be a lord of the rings type epic movie to do the book any kind of slight justice even. Not to say it won't be a great movie regardless though. But I doubt it will be a good enough to substitute for reading the book. It's got to be the best book I've read by far, and the only one I've read so many times because it never ever gets old.

HOWEVER, I'm glad to see somebody finally realized the potential of that great book and turned it into film.

This looks like something down over the weekend using a few WWII reenactors. The actual rights to the screenplay to the book, "The Forgotten Soldier" are owned by the Director Paul Verhoeven, who purchased the rights from the author, Guy Sajer, and is the sole entity authorized by the author to make a film based on this book. Either this video here is a youtube parody or a poor man's version of the story; either way, it's unathorized.
