@kevslf1 Yes it was , but why did'nt he go back to Germany after the war to look for Paula , Hals ect. ? After reading of his love for Paula and of his close comradship with Hals l thought he may have attempted to contact them . He may have ? or maybe he had reasons not to . Just a thought
The best character in this book is August Weiner, a veteran. Courageous, always able to keep calm during combat. It is a pity that he died in the Meml
Is this the movie based on Guy Sajer's book The forgotten soldier? What's the latest on the Movie suposedly directed by Paul Verhoeven, any news updates????
Yeah, I don't think they're really making a movie out of this. I kinda hope they don't with this one, you know? If you want a movie that kind of has a similar feel to the Forgotten Soldier, there was a German by the same people who did Das Boot called Stalingrad.
For my money it was a million times better than Enemy at the Gates with that jack off Jude Law.
There supposedly is a movie based on "The Forgotten Soldier" in pre-production at the moment. Paul Verhoeven is supposed to direct it. However, there have been no news about it for a couple of months now.
read the book and it was the most authentik, survaival of the smartest/luckiest(not bravest or fitesst) a plain story not a hollywood shugar coated story, beautiful.........is the film coming out or not??????????????? if eny one knows please let my know.....if you know.
I've read somewhere that the film project has been cancelled. Does anyone hear know about that or is it still going ahead. Either way the book was brilliant or I will definitely watch the film if it is produced.
I want this movie to come out in the USA, I read the book, and it almost made me cry, made me laugh, made me pissed off, everything; It sickens me that people would forget about German soldiers just because they were fighting against us. They weren't all Nazis, the ones that were were mostly brainwashed, and the others were simply forced into it (for the most part).
sorry but why does everyone insist that most germans in the wermacht were brainwashed or forced into it? they wanted to fight for their country, to make up for the national humiliation after ww1. and alot of them DID believe in nazi ideology. im not calling them evil, im sure most of us would have done the same
I read the book decades ago when I was young. it is about a French-German Alastatian or Loarrainer (whatever, I forget) that serves in the German railway organization and then volunteers for duty in the Gross Deutchland Division and goes to the Ost Front for a long time and luckily survives.
I have been reading ww2 books the last few months Iwo, Dday, Tarawa, and someone told me about this book and by far the best book about a soldiers life and before this book I had just finished Goodbye Darkness
It'll have to be a lord of the rings type epic movie to do the book any kind of slight justice even. Not to say it won't be a great movie regardless though. But I doubt it will be a good enough to substitute for reading the book. It's got to be the best book I've read by far, and the only one I've read so many times because it never ever gets old.
no way!! iam reading the book for the 4th time and iam glade that they are planing to make it into a movie with the director Paul Verhoeven. this book is a classic thank god i picked it up for at barnes and noble in 9th grade for a book report hahah
i know this is not professional sry didnt really explain myself that well. but professionally they are thinking about it with the diretor Paul Verhoeven and hopefully they do it.
I don't mean to sound insulting, but is there some money backing this project? I mean, this isn't just a few guys working out of their garage right ;)?
Anything new on this film? Today I started reading the book again and decided to see what else was around on the web and this was one of the things I found. I hope something good comes from this even a short film. Is there a website by any chance with any information?
It's nice to see you guys doing this. It's a great book and it would make an amazing film is done right. Whatever happened to Paul Verhoeven working on this? I read somewhere that he had spoken to the real Guy Sajer about making the book into a film. Is this true????
I dont know realy. Maybe is it true. Someone here, in comments told me about this. And if you will ask me - We Can Make This Movie. Because we dont sell this movie for cinemas ;]
Paul Verhoeven is in talks about making a film, it is true, it says on wikipedia. I can't wait....it is my favourite book of all time,,,I've read it 3 times, and will read it over and over...
This looks like something down over the weekend using a few WWII reenactors. The actual rights to the screenplay to the book, "The Forgotten Soldier" are owned by the Director Paul Verhoeven, who purchased the rights from the author, Guy Sajer, and is the sole entity authorized by the author to make a film based on this book. Either this video here is a youtube parody or a poor man's version of the story; either way, it's unathorized.
First: This movie won't parody. We have inspirations. We aren't professional production and we don't make parody of this fantastic book. Its only normal movie where never won't published. So sorry... but I think you feel indignation, you are angry for me for this.
This is one of the GREATEST books I have ever read. I thought it was a shame that no one had the guts to make a movie about it. Cheers to you guys for your efforts! I can't wait to see the whole film! DO YOU HAVE A WEB SITE?
Uniquie, chilling, like nothing else,Guy Sajer's book makes you realize how much the life is sometimes unapreciated on the daily basis, becomes like a HABIT. Yes endeed it's one of the Greatest books. But only FRENCH could write this book...
German would NOT. Hope movie will be 50% stregth of the book.

I'm going to be honest and say this looks like a film funded by pocket change...
HOWEVER, I'm glad to see somebody finally realized the potential of that great book and turned it into film.
To the director, cast, and crew of this film - I wish you the best of luck! I look forward to seeing more!
