  • Hat falling off = win.

  • I can enever get over how well Rob does this. ROB!!! COME BACK ON BROADWAY!!

  • I prefer I like Rob better because he plays a good hyde AND Jekyll. Davids mainly good for Hyde.

  • he does the hypocrit bit better than hasselhoff but i think genraly he david does it way better than him

  • Anybody can give me the complete show with evan?? T_T i really want to watch it!

  • @Rainame Add me on skype: Matt Beecher-thepitchfinder

  • In my honest pinion Rob Evan is the Perfect Hyde.

  • His acting isn't as good/really creepy as Hasselhoff's, but his singing IS (aren't all of them?). This was pretty good.

  • @MasterAnemos Being a fan of Hoff's and Rob's performances, I believe they approached Hyde in different ways. Rob approaches Hyde as a poetic demon, while Hoff sees Hyde as a cold, unfeeling, yet with a demonic sense of humor. SO you really can't compare the two performances...

  • @Broadwaypuppet Actually, I think MasterAnemos has a point. Though the truth of the matter is that they are both good, Hasselhoff displays greater acting ability whereas Rob uses a far better singing ability.

Me? I prefer Rob Evan to Hasselhoff any day.

  • @TrumpetLullaby yeah, I guess. I guess I just couldn't cope with the fact that Rob's acting wasn't the best there was. He certainly has improved, considering this was his first big Broadway show, and he later went on to play Jean val Jean and Kerchack, but you're right. But I will say that Rob had the best "Transformation" in terms of the pain he simulated so well, and his acting considerably improves as Hyde and when he's singing!

  • 0:31-0:33 and 0:38-0:41 what does Hyde say?

  • @Broadwaypuppet "Eminent churchman and philanthropist...who does not know Rupert 14th Bishop of Basingstoke, our fair city's most distinguished, degenerate, OBSCENE AND MALIGNANT HYPORCRITE!" Sorry I love this show with a burning passion.

  • @ThePitchFinder No prob! Thanks sooooo much!

  • thats an impressive note he hits at the end

  • This is an amazing Performance! I'm I the only one who loves how he hits the Bishop at 1:20?

  • @AGuyInAHat Nope! :)

  • This is way better than hasselhoff except that hasselhoff didnt lose his hat lol still better though.

  • @TheZIG13 Him losing his hat makes it better!

  • first hyde to hit that high not onstage!!! LUV IT!!! Also, Evan took over the role full time on my 1ST BIRTHDAY!!! HOW MUCH MORE AWESOME CAN YOU GET?!?!?!?!

  • ITS A FELLING OF BEIN EDWARD HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYDE

  • I still prefer Cuccioli and Warlow.

  • I love that he holds the sword stick up when he says "conquer all the odds"! And for all of u that think I'm annoying commenting on how good Rob is every week, then let's just say this; I LOVE every aspect of Rob Evan's performance in these roles! :)

  • If I met Hyde in person, I wouldn't run away. I'd simply say:

"WHO'S YOU TAILOR? I LOVE THAT OUTFIT!" :)

  • Rob Evan > Hasselhoff

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!

  • Also, it made Rob look truly evil when his hat fell off! Thumbs up if you agree!

  • Rob Evan= best Jekyll & Hyde EVER!

  • dude!!!! DID HE SQUEEZE THAT GUYS BALLS?!

  • @popprincess6253 Well, he DID mention lust. XD

  • @popprincess6253 All I could think was "HONK."

  • the bishop was getting jiggy :D

  • 1:20 over and over again!

  • @ThePitchFinder I know cause it looks like he actually hit the guy.

  • @Hyde3291 no it just looked funny lmao

  • Do you have this soundboard Mr. Hyde???

  • I love how his hat falls off at the end :)

  • 3 people were on the side of the Bishop

  • i reallly wish i could do this on broadway if it was still on i do all the songs with my teacher exept dangerous game

  • @xvader123123 you are so right. Rob her OWNS Jekyll/Hyde! anyone know how to get the DVD version of the musical with rob Evan as the star? Hasselhoff wasn't bad but Evan was just so much better

  • XD a bunch of girls go nuts over a dark, kind of scary scene. oh well, i go nuts at the end of Act 1 of Legally Blonde the Musical. :D

  • I got to this video from the Hasselhoff one! I couldn't stop smiling, and then I realized how weird it was that I was smiling. xD

This is basically the coolest thing I've ever seen. The Robert Cuccioli one is great too, but he doesn't go for a high note at the end and the fire doesn't look as good. =P

  • Rob pwns Cuccioli in every way.

  • YES. Just. Fucking. YES. <3

  • Cuccoili plays Jekyll. Evan OWNS Jekyll

  • *spazzes* Rob. Okay Im officially tied between two hydes. Cuccoili, and Evan. Not sure which one I like second best. First best is Warlow. Definitely. *facepalm* God. I love Hyde...

  • He kinda looked like Ozzy Osbourne at the end!

  • 1:20 Big fan.

  • I saw this show in Louisville in 1999, I think. I don't remember the cast, but I know that the special effects were more impressive than the Broadway version, which is REALLY disappointing. I watch this scene now and sigh because the fire is so obviously shot up from the stage in front of the actor. In the version I saw his cloak was actually set on fire and then when the stage went black they'd just flip it back on itself and smother the flames.

  • While I don't think anyone will ever displace Cuccioli as the Jekyll/Hyde of my heart, Evan is fantastic. I particularly like how he did the sign of the cross over the bishop. Wonderfully sacriligious, and I hadn't seen that before.

  • i didnt notice that...how cool!

  • Wow... I prefer Hasselhoff

    Just. Kidding

  • @macemalakai Thats Abit Mean Isn't It ?? I Though Hasselhoff Did Well Considering It Was His First Time On Broadway x

  • He had it coming.

  • one thing I scene was he lost his hat will he was singing that song

  • That's because he got more into the role. lots of movement. not like the other actors that just went through like a robot crossed with a goat "cough" Hoff "cough"

  • Two words can describe this.

    either

    Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

    or

    BRAVO!! :D

  • @musicalchix I say both.

  • @musicalchix Or....... Completley awesome to the core cuz Rob Evan's just amazing like that!

  • @Broadwaypuppet Agreed! :o

  • @musicalchix YAH! AND U NEVER C IT COMNG EITHER! :)

  • @musicalchix I can think of a better one

    LEGEN

    wait for it...

    wait for it...

    DARY!!

  • @Takaithefox620 I waited for it and I loved it! :D

  • i love the high note he hits at the end.

  • wow, imagine what would have happened if his hat had fallen off forward...

  • I enjoy both evan and cuccioli

  • He hits the Highest end note I have ever heard used to end this song.

  • Cuccioli hits it higher in the Soundboard from Pre-Broadway. :D

  • really? o_O I would like to see that!

  • dang, what note does cucciolli hit?

  • Excuse me guys, I meant to say he hits it higher in a certain performance from Broadway, which I can't upload at the moment (because it's on cassette). But he does hit it about equal in the Soundboard from Pre-Broadway. I uploaded his Alive Reprise from that awhile back, if you want to hear it.

  • On Jekyll and Hyde: The Complete Work, Anthony Warlow sings that A as well. It would be very interesting to hear Cuccioli attempt that.

  • I can send you the link to the video where Cuccioli hits that high note if you haven't seen it.

  • Please send it to me...that's the only thing preventing him from being better than Evan.

  • Evan could afford to hit that A at the end of the song because he didn't go on every night -- He was merely an understudy, and didn't have to worry so much about vocal stamina.

Cuccioli probably knew that hitting that A would be overshooting himself, as he DID have to sing the entire score for 8 shows a week.

  • Rob Evan was actually the lead from January 1999 to January 2000. Just for the record. He was also the understudy, and alternate throughout the Broadway run.

  • Ohh. I thought he was only the Hoff's understudy.

What do you think of Evan in the role?

  • Well also Evan is a Tenor and Cuccioli is a bari-bass. Plus Rob Evan was the alternate. He pretty much was all the matinees so he did get a good 4 or more shows a week.

  • I think Cuccioli is a baritone with some nice tenor notes. I've heard him sing a few things outside of J%H (which is unfortunate, I wish he'd have been recorded more!) and he definitely has some impressive high notes.

  • @AtLastOnTheGround

Cuccioli did not perform the show 8 times a week. He did the evening performances and Rob Evan as the alternate did the afternoon shows. And just for the record they were both spectacular!

  • Drew Sarich as well.

  • @HydeCorner

Cuccili did not do the Original Concept Album. That actually was Anthony Warlowe. And the note in question is an Tenor A (A4 for those musically inclined)

  • @JT826 Wrong. Chuck Wager did the 1987 demo, Colm Wilkinson did the original concept album in 1990 and Anthony Warlow did the Complete Work in 1994.

  • @scumblejack

Sorry bro, but you are wrong. Because the "Complete Work" is called "Jekyll & Hyde: The Gothic Musical Thriller (1994 CONCEPT Cast)." Then again, I am taking my marching orders from Frank Wildhorn's website, but what does he know? He only wrote the darn thing.

I should just listen to every halfwit who tries to trump me on youtube, really.

  • @JT826 Don't you dare call me a halfwit.

    You said "original concept album".

Colm Wilkinson did the Original Concept Album in 1990, Anthony Warlow's album was in 94. I did not deny that Warlow's was a concept album.

  • @RussellBakerFilms Anthony Warlow goes mad high in the concept version of the album. Much better I think

  • @RussellBakerFilms o believe that note was a G or an A. not that high and i dont have my keyboard to test if im right.

  • @uffm its an A. and maybe cuz im a bass 2 and usually have a G ifi squeeze it out my butt but i think its pretty dang high

  • @RussellBakerFilms Hasselhoff hit the same note- not nearly as well, obviously, but he.. well, he tried XD

  • @DramaMajor713 Yea. It could have been MUCH worse though. He at leat hit the note.

  • @RussellBakerFilms Agreed.

  • LOL! his hat fell off!!!

  • love it

  • what exactly is Hyde doing at 1:01?!? o.O

  • It's obvius : he make sure Mister Danvers stop his "action of charity".

  • verily, Hyde is one sick guy.

  • I believe that is Rupert the 14th bishop of Basingstoke, not Sir Danvers Carew.

  • Ah ? My apologies ! I believe it was sir Danvers because in the book Hyde kill a man called like this using his cane just like he does in the musical.

  • Yeah, in the book, he kills Sir Danvers. In the musical, it's Rupert, the bishop.

  • What?! I thought he would just kill everyone else on the Board of Governors, not Sir Danvers.

  • In the book he killed Danvers, in the musical he kills everyone on the Board of Governors. The musical is based very loosely on the book.

  • What does Evan have in his hand to make it like he set the bishop on Fire? I'm still very confused.

  • Ok, the whole setup is, he beats the Bishop, spreads gasoline over his body, then with a match, he sets him on fire.

So it's a match in his hand. *Even though it's not on fire.*

  • oh. Cause I saw something fly out of his hand. I always wondered. Thank you :)

  • Comment removed

  • Actually he has a Theatrical flash gun concealed in his hand which he sets off towards a flame bar concealled in the false stage. All thats in the bottle is water. trust me im a profesional pyrotechnition who worked on the 1997 broadway production in the plymouth theatre

  • That's incredible! I envy you and your awesome job. I bet you have some great stories!

  • Comment removed

  • ou, rob evan is a beast. his stage combat was much more natural than i've seen other people do it, which was nice.

  • THANK YOU I have been looking for this one for the longest time, to see how he did his performance in this. Honestly though i like of liked how Hoff hitted the bishop with the cane, but i loved how in the beatings, Hyde loosed his hat

  • I think he did an admirable job! Anyone who does not think that this is a spinto tenor role is deluded! All of the repertoire requires constant "G's-Ab's". Now, if a barione can manage this then power to him! I think that singing the "A" an octave lower would detract from the intensity! Ah Hasselfoffhater, I would kill for the baritone repertoire! At least the majority of your roles are not "limp wristed, gathering nuts in may" type characters!

  • Why, are your a bass? or Tenor?

  • Howdy, I am a spinto tenor - out side of the opera world there are few meaty roles for such voice types. Most musicals give the love interest to the tenor, usually with vomit inducing lyrics! I would love to play an evil role for a change!

  • lol...yeah I hear ya.

  • I think he did a good job I mean this is a hard song to sing as hyde

  • wow wow wow wow wow wow!!!!

    HydeCorner, many thanks for this!!!!

  • 1:02.

OMG. Did he grab where I thought he grabbed...? xD Rob Evan is my second favorite Jekyll/Hyde. Bob is first.

I agree with Hasselhoffhater. You rock!!!

  • I think he actually DID! HOLY SHIT!

  • AWKWARD BACKSTAGE CONVERSATION!

    "So..um...Sorry for grabbing there."

  • why did he grab him there? but other then that he did better then hoff

  • Because Hyde saw a young prostitute leave after the Bishop had used her, so he's teasing him before he kills him I guess...

  • hewould most likely put his hand on the stage floor and make it look like he grabbed there

  • Cool! It's actually an A natural he hits , so yeah even higher of a note.

  • Huh it's a Natural? I thought it was a flat!

  • nope its a high A natural above staff

and its the hardest note ever to hit

  • I don't like Evan's voice, but he's a good actor

    I really like it

  • Seriously dude you are like the BEST thing to ever happen to youtube since PhantomReviewer! And I kinda laughed when his hat fell over!

  • Thanks dude! Your right about the hat, lol

  • I was scared that the hat would be caught on fire! But dude his A-flat is like....I wish I could hit it like that!

  • ahhh its an Aflat that HYDDDDDEEEE ye?

    i think its really good

    great actor

  • Well yeah...Still I wanna hit like that....I hate being a baritone.....

  • there are some amazing roles for baritones too

look at javert from les mis

and btw that A isnt how its written its written an octave lower

  • And Jekyll is actually ment for a high baritone believe it or not!

  • Well then why are tenors playing the role?

  • but even if you were a tenor it would be incredibly hard to do that role, hyde is a deep tenor...deep baritone is easy but deep tenor is hard
