'id put a small amount of licorice in with the fishing hooks, fish love the sent of anise ( the smell and taste of licorice) just the smallest hint of it on the hooks would guarantee a catch, you could also use it for bait, and in a pinch you'll have something to eat.
How about making a situational daily survival bag. When I worked as a security guard overnight my survival bag included a comfortable eye blinds, a pair of good earplugs with a plug into my walkie talkie, an ebook reader, etc etc. I think I spent about an hour of real work and the rest of the night I got about six hours sleep. Survival packs need to be situational.
few pointers from a eagle scout...lose the box knife they are pointless.secondly do not boil water or use iodine with aluminum unless you wish to cause a very negative chemical reaction..things to add to your kit snapped off hacksaw blades with the non edge sharpened.spring steel is infinitely more durable and keeps an edge longer than a razorblade.a couple of "bobby pins and large safety pins.lose the bic and get a magnesium fire starter duct tape and a container of superglue and 20 dollarbill
I found some matches at Albertsons that come in a huge pack of book-matches that are water-proof. I've checked one match from every book to make sure that it was indeed water-proof and they work, so I added those to my survival tin.
A corner piece of a banda cut out to fit in you tin can(wich is WAY better than my entire B.O.B. bag, dam) so you can take out large debree before you sterilise it, also duck tape cut in half wraped around a cut piece of a credit card or any plastic card, also zip ties if you can find a use for them.
how gay is this kids voice? lol stupid fucking nerd. an tournequets? im a paramedic and let me tell everyone something about tournequets if you use one and cant get to more advanced medical care you will die. lol. learn how to controle bleeding with something other than a tournequet. honestly thats just a bad idea
Great video! Very informative and easy to follow. I like the stuff sealed in straws and the tinfoil cup! How do you seal the straws? I am sure it is with heat but is it like heat with lighter and squeeze with pliers or do you have something else?
i got a leatherman charge tti :D i also have a leatherman skeletool but i rarely carry that one on me, i got the charge tti after the skeletool and prefer the bigger but more useful charge.
good video on your suvival tin. I have inner tube coveing mine. I liked your iodine tabs idea. The foil cup has inspird me to learn how to fold foil and increase it useage. Thanks.
I really good thing to have also would be any sort of Mint. One Mint has enough sugar to sustain the body for 3 hours. Small, compact, and in desperate need, can boost energy levels by just enough to get something done.
Re KI pills - Of course you can buy them. The FDA recommends it!
MOST PEOPLE OUTSIDE THE BLAST ZONE CAN SURVIVE A NUCLEAR EXPLOSION. However, the risk of later thyroid cancer is high. The preventative dose of KI is 130mg per day for adults, half that for children. Gov't recommends a 10-day course, but note the 1/2-life of radioiodine is 8 days, so 10 may not be enough.
The Neosporin and Tylenol in straws is a good idea. The tin foil cup is a good idea, I'll remember that one. I've got most everything else you've got there. The Survival Resources water bag is good and will work but the same thing can be done with a non lubricated condom taking up less space. I use mothers milk bags, I don't know it's just something about drinking out of a condom that gets me.......LOL. There is no right way to do these, it's what you want that counts. Take Care :-))
No offense but if a nuclear attack actually happened, absorbing radiation into your thyroid would be the least of your worries. lol Good idea with the candles though. I like that.
Following a nuclear event, radioactive iodine is released into the air and can be absorbed through the lungs and get into the body through food or through drink. Once radioactive materials get into the body the thyroid quickly absorbs it. Non-radioactive KI acts to block radioactive iodine from being absorbed. It would be a shame to survive a nuclear attack that happens in a neighboring state only to die a year later from fallout poisoning, especially when it's easily prevented.
@petepan3 Really? so exactly how large of a supply would you have to stockpile to keep yourself from getting poisoned? Do you suppose that you won't die of some other radiation sickness related disease other than thyroid? I think that if a nuclear strike happened you might as well just stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye. All those little tablets aren't going to help you in the long run. But I have been wrong before. Japan comes to mind in subjects like this.....
@HollowForm222 You don't need a huge stockpile, just enough to protect yourself till you can evacuate the contaminated region. I suppose in the event of a nuclear strike or meltdown we could stick our heads between our legs and kiss our asses goodbye :-D but then there is no point in survival preparedness. We are all going to die someday but I'd like to postpone that day as long as I can. After the Chernobyl meltdown 4,000 people died in nearby Belarus of thyroid cancer that didn't have to.
@petepan3 I believe any potassium iodine tablets cannot be bought anymore(not sure) because they can be used in the making of drugs... Not so easily prevented anymore. I don't know if its a total ban or restrictions on quantity

The FDA also has a FAQ on potassium iodide.
"Nuclear War Survival Skills", originally published by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, is also available online.
KI pills are, however, not available RIGHT NOW because all available supply has been shipped to Japan.
