Hi John, showing my age now.I still have my copy of the Adventure cassette I bought at Turners in 1984.On that the tune is called simply "Swiss Piece".Where did the "Little" come from ?
love it. sounds polka-ish but I love it, the crescendo and decrescendos are perfect. makes me wanting more when it gets quiet and then blasts it:) beautifull piece
This is just beautiful. I played (well, I did until Monday)clarinet, and the little solo in this is really beautiful. The whole piece is! Its really catchy and everything! And the Royal Marines are a really great band. =) They play better than my country's, that's for sure. XDD
Stunning peice.I remember watching my son doing his Kings Squad two years ago and I had a lump in my throat because of the performance the band put on.
Thanks for posting this clip. Im a big fan of the RM Band (I have a sizable collection of CDs) Never heard this piece before and really enjoyed it. Lets hope someone in the Band Service 'rediscovers' it and appears again in the program sometime.
As for the RM Band sounding 'tinny' I've always thought that the RM band have the fullest sound whilst the Guards sound 'tinny' - different ears I suppose!
fantastic performance and a lovely arrangement really enjoyed listening and watching this video,a real credit too britain and by far the finest military band we have, and some great still photos too very well put together.
The Basic Score for 'Little Swiss Piece' is included in my Music Book (please visit my Website). Also, the full set of Bands Parts for this Royal Marines Band arrangement are also available upon request. Please email me - Thanks JOHN.
Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on regimental uniforms through the ages. It includes the Royal Marines and many other regiments.
All things are possible! I would love to hear any combination actually; another cover would be excellent. As a writer / composer it is always thrilling to hear somebody else's arrangements of one's works. Many thanks for listening and also for your comment -- JOHN WALKER
Very nice composision John. Has a very fun and almost play like feel through out the whole piece. I really like the use of the woodwinds in particular (in the light and trilly useage) as it really highlights the light hearted nature of the piece.
Thanks for linking me up to it. It was a nice way to Start my You-Tube viewing this evening
Hi John! I have to agree with the other replyers.....youve done a good job combining this "footlifting" lovely tune with a nice pictureslide and i guess that it can be used as a recruitingmaterial for the band in question any time!!! Greetings from Sweden!
A 2-stave arrangement (with 'chords' for organ) is included in my MUSIC BOOK (please visit my website) but it has not been scored for a band as yet. Many thanks - JOHN
You've done it again Mr Walker! A great arrangement of your catchy tune, played in excellent style by one of the best bands in the country. Not only that but I must commend you on the video - is there no end to your talents ! Keep up the good work.
John,
When Steve Misson And Phil Hughes had Cinque Port Music in Deal I arranged "A Little Swiss Piece" for Brass Band way back in 1985.
