Before we judge it, its best to play it. After all, Fallout 3 is awesome, and everyone thought it'd be a terrible Fallout game. Besides, even if it sucks, it isn't like its the first X-Com game to not be like the original... Interceptor, Enforcer, etc.

This new "XCOM" was made without X-COM ever in mind! This game is about social, sexual and racial politics in the 50s/60s, and just wanted to complain about the GAYS & Civil rights! Just like Bioshock. Then someone said "this game is kind of like X-COM" and then they only used the name.

*sighs* not sure what to make of this...it's hard to judge from just a trailer, but if it does have aspects from the older X-Com's they certainly don't show them off in the trailer, save for maybe some of the reverse-engineering parts. There's too much going on, and how can you tell apart Sectoids? Snakemen? Crysalids? They look like...blocks.

2K felt that they were "working to close to their comfort zones". In other words, they were afraid that they were just cooking up another BioShock. The fact that they immediately got to work to change this and make something totally different is a good sign. To the naysayers: XCOM certainly isn't a going to be the top-down turn-based action strategy game that UFO was, but it's not BioShock with aliens. They want to make a game that is like nothing made before, but honours its precursors.

Have anyone here at least tried to read a review or two? If I understood correctly: There's research, basebuilding, procedural/random missions, strategic map & pause for orders. I like that they at least kept the "Kill and collect" feature of the franchise but even still, this series needs a reboot not a remake. Also it needs to be harder. It's the same publisher (2K Games), but 2K Marin, which is developing this game, only did the porting of Bioshock to the PS3, not the development of the original game. 2K Boston AKA Irrational Games was the original developer for Bioshock. But even if Irrational Games was developing it that doesn't mean it would be good or faithful to the original X-COM. Even if this turns out to be a good game, I don't think it should use the X-COM name.
