@Peachiest94 We sang "take" like that because that is how it is pronounced when sung in Scotland. When we sing a song from a different culture we always try to make it sound as authentic as possible. It was a creative choice by our director, who has been teaching for 20 years, is the current president of the Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA), and has his Masters Degree in music.
And as for the second solo, the score stated it could be a tenor OR a soprano. Just so you know.
@beedahla mmhm ive necer heard any scottish person say it that way but im not a linguist but our director of 35 years and past president of 4 years of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) With a Masters from Pennsylvania State University (PSU) says the vowel quality of forign songs suffers if your not from that country ......... as for the solo cut the balls of some of your tenors so they can sing that high
@Peachiest94 And for your information, Minnesota is known all around the US as having the best choirs in America. Don't believe me? Check for yourself. Even Google thinks so. 1st, 2nd, and 4th. Pennsylvania? ONLY 7th. Ha.
@Peachiest94 the "take" is simply a matter of low-lands versus highlands of scotland the low-lands have more British influence so they more often than not use the pure 'a' while highlanders are more traditional and use the 'ah' like the would in gaelic, since this is a highland song it would be pronouced as 'ah'...and everybody's choir director is great awesome and has experience from an university...if you do enough research on a culture's language its the director's choice to say it like them.
i love how all the minnesotan choirs do this song (:

Soloist was good- a bit flat in places, but still good. Something happened when the choir came in.
