A very mature perspective. I love the 'we need all the colors' metaphor. There is a musician I head make a very similar statement on Halloween. It is a good way to approach this.

Maybe this is the reason that you have this website is to educate and teach acceptance tolerance and over all love not only to the straight community but the gay community as well. I would hazard that most persons imagine themselves in a certain way, and anything that opposes their preconceived self-perception is something that they find threatening. They feel like they've worked hard enough to get where they are, why would someone else come behind them and prove the majority opinion valid? (Not my personal opinion, at all, just empathizing)
Gays are human beings, not saints, and have just as many faults as other human beings, including often being incredibly shallow, indulging in prejudices, labeling others, and putting them on hierarchies.
@kohaku06 I was also wondering what it was, and after listening hard for a key phrase (it's hard to ignore Jerome :D), Google led me to: Freelance Whales - Kilojoules. :)
You're right, Jerome--we who are a minority to start with certainly should accept (cherish, in fact) ALL of our fellow gays. My partner and I are both straight-acting, but I personally think effeminate guys are kind of cute. But whether it appeals to us or not doesn't matter. We were made to be who we are and should rejoice in ourselves. P.S.--you and Adolfo are really sweet together; it's a beautiful thing to see.
The weather in US is just crazy now, 102 degree weather in CA meanwhile NYC is on our like 11th Tornado Watch -__-. Anyway, GREAT video Jerome, I think the effeminate gays should instead be honored because they truly come out and be themselves. If they can live their life how they see fit, why should we chastise how they live
Haters will be Haters unfortunately some of the most intolerant and rude people I have met are openly gay...its sad. Almost as sad as LOG CABIN REPUBLICANs
When people are genuine its a pleasure to be around them and for me a turn-on. I know many effeminate straight guys, bi guys, and gay guys its all good. I also know people who ACT out a certain way which is not authentic for themselves. This is annoying and a turn-off whether its an overly Macho or effeminate way of being regardless of their sexuality. in FACT I get pissed when someone says I am straight "acting". I am myself that's the point.

youre also very adorable when you talk about how lovely your bf is. i remind my bf why i love him all the time. i think that's something a lot of relationships are lacking these days, leaving some couples feeling undervalued in their relationship.
Great topic! I am always amazed at seeing such maturity in such a young man. Your parents must be so proud of you. This topic is easy. We are outwardly bias about things we fear about ourself. With a few exceptions as we grow older and become more secure those things bother us less. Unfortunately the damage is done and we hurt so many people on the way. Good to see you back.
one of your best videos. I share your pain as I live in "hot" Orange county.
Very thoughtful and mature video today. I always laugh a little when I see your "name" as it always makes me think of yeah, orgasm. I guess I have a dirty little mind. When do we see your BF?
I agree. As a community we are often attacked for breaking with societal norms simply for being lgbt. We should not be doing the same to our own when it comes to where people find themselves on teh spectrum of gender expression.
Heh, one more thing. When we're young and closeted, some of us spend a lot of time trying not to seem feminine in any way so people don't realize we're gay. Femmy guys can seem really threatening, even after you come out sometimes, because you worry how their behaviour will reflect on you. I was scared and judgemental of femmy guys for awhile after I came out, but then I got over it as I got better at accepting myself. Then I even grew to dig the femmy parts of myself.
Outward shows of "masculinity" and "femininity" are entire culturally constructed, not inherent. One of the beautiful things about being gay is that we can reassess the meanings of male and female behaviour.
People often don't realize I'm gay at first because I present with most outward signs of masculinity. However, if you hang around me awhile, you see the side of me that loves to camp, or sway my hips, or enjoy sides of myself that people label "feminine" (not to mention sucking cock!).
You are right, this is an issue. I used to be prejudice against effeminate guys years ago, I also noticed that it is prevalent within the community. I think at least partly to blame is that many within the community don't like that society picks up on fem guy behaviour and paints all gays as the same. Most gay guys don't want to be viewed aseffeminate. Whatever the reason, in my humble opinion, it's bad to be homophobic, whether ur str8 or gay, it goes against "acceptance".
I am so happy you made this video...and I hope those that are prejudice will stand up and take notice. It breaks my heart to see this division in our community. Another terrible one is the way us old gays are treated.Young people are going to get old too. Here is what they do not know. WE ARE NOT ALL PEDOS! Nor do we all want them!
Believe me, I would rather have someone my own age, with a steady career and a life long savings acct;one I can relate to and travel with instead of...well, you know.
People are people, the person who was being a total douche is dumb! Yup I judged him' or her lol but you know, just an act of Human KINDNESS goes a LOOONG way, respect others as you would like to be respected. Life is to damn short to worry about little crap!!!!
This reminds me of an experiment shown on German TV a few days ago: They took a photo of a good looking guy's face. Then they made two identical copies and edited (photoshopped) each of them, making one face looking more feminine and the other one more masculine than the original. Finally they showed the two pictures to several women asking, which guy they would prefer to have a relationship with. The "feminine" guy was chosen by 90 % of the women.
What kind of rainbow has pink in it? uhh, well neways haha, this was a good video. I personally believe that the LGBT community discriminates against Fem Gays because its like a stereotype, and some people in the LGBT community want to break that stereotype, and dislike individuals who represent that "stereotype". I used the word stereotype a lot. But neways, I think that you are right, if the LGBT community wants to move forward, we need to put aside the discrimination within our own society.
lol, its G XD, I mean Pinks a light shade of Red isn't it? or idk, I don't know my colors all that well, but I mean if it is, then through association, Pink is in a rainbow haha, I mean if you get all technical like that XD.
Plus somewhere in the world there has gotta be pink in a rainbow.
Let's be honest. The effeminate gay males are the voice and image of gay men in our society. Many masculine gays just want to blend in with society and not rub it in people's faces, where as (typically) the feminine ones are loud and proud. Is this a reason to hate them? No. But I believe the effeminate males are one of the main causes of homophobia, as many ignorant people can't understand why a man would act like a woman. It's the image they're presenting that the masculine gays hate.
@Reddog2358 you said it even better than my attempt, I agree completely. I also think that the view society gets of the community, once every year via news clips of pride parades, adds to and helps cement their negative impression.
@westislandkev It's true, if the public is only seeing one side of the community then no wonder they think we're all the same. It's about educating the public about homosexuality, instead of it being this thing that's still very taboo to many people. It's up to both masculine and effeminate gays to be the educators and to advocate acceptance or else we'll never get along.
I agree with you, Jerome. We should all just accept each other as we are. By the way, I think Dolf is adorable and you are such a hunk--I love you both. And you are soooo sweet together!
I think gay people have all the same faults that straight society does. Gays are especially harsh to those who are less attractive or older for example. I agree we should work on getting rid of those prejudices but we are all a work in progress.
I think the masculine-feminine matter is a big joke. Many straight guys are feminine. Many gay guys are super masculine. It's hilarious that so many guys see themselves as being sooooo masculine when the rest of us see feminine behavior coming out of them as clear as a bell. Feminine behavior is simply a natural thing, and I can't see some guys being any other way -- and they are better as they flow true to themselves. Well spoken! Thumbs up!
Somehow I think the pause right after the rainbow comment was you saying, "Mmm... That was really gay," in your head. But, you held it back, because it would be ironically funny.
I'm 5'9", 180 pounds muscular and masculine. When people find out I'm gay there usually very surprised. My boyfriend is 5'4", 120 pounds and a bit feminine. He's my hero. Where I blend in with society he cannot. He's out and 100% gay all the time. He has to endure Hate, intolerance, ignorance and sometimes physical abuse on a daily basis. Why would we want to discriminate against some of our community, the ones who are representing all of us daily?
there is a huge difference between not being sexually attracted to men that are more feminine and directing prejudice and hatred towards them
i personally am not (sexually) interested in a person who behaves feminine but that is a personal preference. that doesn't mean i don't like them as people, or as friends
