  • brings back memories.. i used to watch this and land before time 1-3 all the time lol

  • Awesome film, the 2nd one was awesome as well.

  • i did not like this movie. i don't know why, but i didn;t

  • Oh I loved this movie when I was a kid. I still do love it, it's one of my fav disney movies.

  • i think this is a beautiful opening:)

    thanx much for posting.

    xx

  • This opening used to freak me out as a kid lolits BEAUTIFUL to me now though!

  • Beautiful indeed. I have this movie on VHS, though I can't watch it due to the fact that I do not have a working VCR anymore.

  • I think they released this out on DvD, and several people have uploaded the entire movie to youtube ^_^

  • This was one of the first films I ever saw as a kid, and it remains one of the best in my opinion. If I ever have kids, this is one they'll be seeing, too :)

  • I remember this film so much. I had it on video. I played it so much I burnt the tape out now it's broken. Today I got The Rescuers on DVD I love it so much £5 from Asda in Kingswwod in Hull bargin. I love Miss Bianca and Bernard . I like Penny too she is so cute I would adpot her bless her. Snoops is so funny I like him because he's funny. I like Madame Madussa too she is so funny and she makes me laugh but she is so scary I love her evil laugh. The Rescuers it rocks. 100000000000000 stars

  • Beautiful drawings. Disney does credits in such a boring way nowadays. Black background, white writing and a popstar singing one of the songs. This makes You feel so much more connected to the film.

  • Beautiful!

  • Don Bluth worked on this, didn't he?

  • looks like don bluths work, similar to secret of nihm and dragons lair

  • Bluth, in fact, was one of the directing animators on this. (just read them words on the screen!) He and some other artists left Disney in 1979 to start up his own company (it was actually a pretty bitter affair that created a lot of bad blood on both sides.) So it's not surprising that his influence can be felt here. His early films have a dark, grimy atmosphere that this movie seems to be a precursor to.

  • I think it his relationship with Disney has kind of soften over the years. I saw interviews of him talking about his experiences on Sleeping Beauty in the recent Blu-Ray release.

  • I remember this movie so much, I just love it. I also love how beautiful and poignant this opening sequence this is, even in its simplicity. Especially when it builds up towards the middle, then it simmers down to the emotional state again. I wish my VCR would still work so I can watch this movie and enjoy it once again.

  • It is on DvD so you should be able to watch it if you can find it.

  • This was a fairly low-budget film, come to think of it. Still most likely my fav. Disney film, with Brave Little Toaster coming in at second and The Black Cauldron in at third.

  • Brave Little Toaster wasn't Disney, but it was my favourite movie when I was very little. :) This film is great too, it's probably the first one Disney did that was less cheerful and more moving.

  • i have brave lil toaster on dvd..yet i cant find the dvd. :/

whats black cauldron..it rings a bell somewere

  • This is no doubt the most haunting Disney song ever written. This and the cave scene in this film gave me nightmares and thrilled me when I was little.

  • The bit with the pirate skeleton used to scare me. :) Haunting is the right word.

  • So goregous and powerful.

  • Jesus Christ, it's been years. I'm starting to get tears here. I need to dig up the VHS of this and watch it like old times.

  • That poor little girl. I will adopt you cause I love everybody

  • the music is absolutely wonderful!!! it remembers me of my childhood.. it is simply heart-breaking!! i wish I had never grown up.

  • It is indeed very beautiful :]

  • If I'm right, this took three to four years to produce, with work starting in 1973.

  • Thats what I call a well done opening.

  • One of those rare instances where a budget-watching, cost-cutting move actually ended up being more powerful than it might have been otherwise. If this had been fully animated, in the realistic style of the rest of the film, somehow it wouldn't have the same impact.

On the flip side, later in the movie comes a cost-cutting move that's just embarrassing to watch---Orville flying through painted, still traffic. XD

  • Oh my! this brings me back to my childhood! ah... those wonderful days of sitting in front of the Tv, eating cookies in my grandparents kitchen! I miss it! :)

  • I love the song at the beginning! <3

  • what is the namn of this song?

  • "The Journey"

  • One thing that just cam to my mind was: What did Margery Sharp think of the adapted version of her novels? I know Roald Dahl and E.B. White were pissed about the film versions of their famous novels.

  • wow i am not used to seeing the digitally remastered version, i have the one with the buena vista logo at the beginning, i actually perfer it that way because the 1977 sound quality makes it more classic

  • Remastered? You're joking right. The 1992 version was way cleaner than the DVD version.

  • i dont know, i only have the '92 version so i wouldnt exactly know, but it looks cleaner at least in the video

  • The 1992 VHS version is by far the cleanest home video release of the film, with truer and brighter colors and sharper image. The DVD has very dark, faded and pale colors, and though it does offer the original theatrical aspect ration, the film was produced in full screen.

  • thanks for the info im glad i have the 92 vhs version

  • I've only ever seen the 1992 VHS, so I can't compare it to anything. But I do know that I find a lot of the restorations of old animation released lately to be very bland and uninteresting. Supposedly, they're the way the colors originally looked, but I'm a little skeptical because I've also heard the restoration process is rather lackadaisical.

The "truth" is probably somewhere in the middle.

  • Disney's restorations are works of art, though. There's also no question that no other Disney animated film would have a greater impact after a proper restoration than this one. I don't understand how or why it has deteriorated so much more than any other.

  • When was the Rescuers DVD you're citing as horrible-looking released, again? I'm trying to figure out if that in fact was one of their recent restorations I'm talking about. Maybe it was a restoration and you mistook it for a old print since, like I said, the colors often end up duller? I dunno...keep in mind I've never seen it.

I just hate the idea that those uninteresting colors--in my opinion, mind you--are the real McCoy.

  • Case in point: Great Mouse Detective. There's a YouTube upload of it that's clearly from a newer, restored DVD release. But compare it to the version you'll find under "Wielki mysi detektyw," which is clearly pre-restoration.

Those colors may be "wrong", but to me they are thousand times more potent and evocative than the cleaned up, "correct" version.

  • There was just one DVD edition for "The Rescuers" released in the United States on May 20th, 2003. There was absolutely no restoration done to the film. The condition was described as a "snappy new remastering" which is a completely different thing. Also, "The Great Mouse Detective" has never been restored either, just remastered for DVD.

  • Apparantly I'm a bit ignorant about the difference remastering and restoration. I'd just been assuming they were the same thing.

Incidentally, I'm curious if you feel the same way I do about the "Mouse Detective" color comparison.

  • Well, I can't make too much of a comparison since I don't have any other release prior to the 2002 DVD. The film looks okay, but a bit grainy and the brightness/contrast produces a lot of "flashing." The animated character's borderlines look a bit too thick, but that may have been how the film was produced.

  • Oh, I meant between the "main" Youtube upload of it versus the one found under "Wielki mysi detektyw."

  • Oh, oops! Let me take a look at them. =]

  • On the Amazon profile for "The Rescuers" DVD, I posted a few customer images comparing the DVD print to their restored counterparts and the difference is pretty shocking.

  • i wonder who painted those tapestries, they're really awesome, this movie inspired me to decide to live on a bayou in the south once im outta college haha

  • Melvin Shaw painted those impressions.

  • thanks, wow that guy's really good

  • I think it's neat how they kept the thunderclap from the old Buena Vista logo when they replaced it with the Walt Disney Pictures logo

  • yo this was one of my first owned disney movies.....damn this shyt brings back memories

  • I CAN'T FIND THIS MOVIE ONLINE ANYWHERE!!!! Does anyone know where I can watch it online?

  • The Rescuers Is on youtbe in it's entirety. The only problem is that IT'S THE POLISH VERSION of them OKAY.

  • is the entire film on youtube somewhere?

  • No idea - buy the DVD!

  • Just in bits & pieces.

  • Just by seeing this I can see we have two completely different Rescuers films out there. This opening credits is a complete contrast to that of it's successor. This one expresses what Disney was at the time, beutiful & tries to get you into it from the start. With the still images & thme song it's clear that you are about to view an emotional tale of suspence, romance, & inner-child release. The opening sequence for The Rescuers gets 5 stars, no words no corniness; just pure stillness.

  • Thank you for uploading this clip I love this song so much it's so beautiful and sad one of Disney's best

  • aaaw, that's so sad and cute. Can somebody please post the whole thing for once?

  • Watchig this intro, I can easily tell that Don Bluth had some involvement with this movie. I never liked this movie as much as the other Disney movies, because it was too depressing.

  • Don Bluth did have a small part in this film, but just two rather minor scenes.

  • aww I used to luv this SO much when I was a youngster. It's my greatest memories:)

  • To be honest, the opening is my favorite part of the movie. Don't ever let them delete this video!!!

  • The song is so sad ! D: Gosh, disney movies were so fantastic !

  • 1970's disney animation was amazing. jeez, those were the days [nostalgic sigh]

  • Well, the 70s and early 80s were actually Disney's lowest point (unless you count today!). Walt Disney was gone, the staff was aging, the markets were changing, and the execs didn't really really know how to handle it. They tried branching out in new directions, but they were too chicken to go all the way, so ended up with a bunch of half-assed, half-baked failures, for the most part.

This modest, somber little movie is one of the few good things to come out of that period, IMO.

  • I love the song at the beginning :D
