Seriously, where is the wild pitch?! Everyone thinks that if Buckner makes that play the series is over and Boston wins. The Mets had already tied it on the wild pitch. If you're going to post this, at least get the facts straight.
bostons coach realized they were up by 4 with 2 outs and he put buckner in because he was good in his earlier years but now his ankles were shot and he could hardly walk.he just wanted him in the game, respectfully so he can say he played when they won the world series.unexpectedly the mets clutch to tie it. ground ball right to poor old buckner who attempted to hobble over to the ball and it goes right through his legs and the mets win.buckner and the coach faced death threats their whole lives
The Mets did a great job in the 1986 World Series but, the highlight for me was when Michael Sergio parachuted into Shea Stadium during Game 6. The Mets were losing but I think when Michael came in it sparked something in the players and they won the game and subsequently the series. I wish I could see the video of that again. I hope it wasn't destroyed.
@tmclaughlin11 I'm from Boston, that this was very much "A Series To Remember"! In hindsight, the 1986 World Series was a sign from God telling us Red Sox Fans that we would only have to wait 86 years for the next time the Boston Red Sox would win the World Series. Think about it, 1918 + 86 = 2004. Do the math!
Oh, and by the way, winning the 2004 and 2007 World Series was more than satisfying to Red Sox Nation. Curt Schilling is a God in the City of Boston!
Check out the trailer for "Game 6"! The film follows Nicky Rogan (Michael Keaton), a die-hard Red Sox fan despite the fact that he grew up in NY and is now a NY playwright. Taking place during the 1986 World Series, the trailer for this intelligent, witty, and unsettling tale can be seen here:
yeah as a mets fan i have always said the buckner play might be the most overratted play in history...the game was already tied...and if you ask me---i think mookie beats that out any...stanly wasnt covering
Idiot you forgot the most important part of that inning as did some of the rest of you. If you're such a Met fan how can you forget the wild pitch-past ball that Stanley and Gedman combined on????? That's what scored Mitchell with the tying run, Wilson's hit scored one run(Knight) not two runs. If you're such a Mets fan you would have that in this. I guess you're not. That wild pitch-past ball(I think it was) is what blew the game for the Sox not the ball going through Buckner's leg. Correct it
@jaytf123 i am a die hard mets fan and i have always said it wasnt buckner it was stanley who shudve been the goat..i was watching the game at 19 years old..
hey duche bag, your smart, i do hate the bitches of the nl east! the phillies, marlins and braves all have championships since the muts won. how about filling your team with winnners instead of loud mouth punk losers. you and your punk center fielder should shut up, bitch!!!!!!!!
then, shut up and go home! your phillies won and the fans trashed the streets! is that the way to show the phillies are champions? no, dumbass! i've won many championships in my hometown and we never trashed our own streets. the philly fans, did! all phillies' fans, are retards!
So sorry, keep that stat in mind, and don't sh1t on the Sox, because the Phils have done worse. 86 yrs. w/o a title sucks, but at least the Sox had winning yrs. in the interim. Good luck, Phils!
@dkslfjgh you obviously don't know the situation. The Mets were down 5-3 with 2 outs with nobody on in game 6 of the world series. They were one out away from losing the world series. The Mets came back and tied the game at 5-5, and then on the Bill Buckner play, the Mets won 6-5. They then would go on to win the world series in Game 7.
I'm from eastern Canada and there is no team I hate more than the Boston Red Sox. Not sure why I hate them...probably started hating them when I was a kid and saw more people in my area wearing Red Sox logos than our own Canadian Toronto Blue Jays. I was like "WTF?". Anyway, as a huge Blue Jays fan I was cheering for the Mets big time in 1986. Luckily for me (and with a little help from Buckner), the Mets took it.
On a building close to where I live "Metsmania" replaced a "RedSoxMania" graffito
Yeah, I always wonder how the Blue Jays fans feel having Red Sox fans always going into their stadium, cheering for their team, i'm from Mass and I cheer for the Red Sox, i'm not like those sick bastard fans, I respect the other teams, even the Yankees, so I hope you're cool with me man. But seriously, it must be SO DAMN ANNOYING.
hey man,it's cool. I respect the Yankees too. I respect every other team, even the Phillies and Braves! But yeah,it's cool man. And yes,it is annoying. Friggin' die-hard fans. I hate it. Especially those goddamn cheese-heads
i kno! and i wuz watchin da jets game today(he went 5-6 btw) and there were like these 2 jets fans dat were wearing cheese-heads! and i'm like,"oh fuck! now da cheese-heads are migrating here!!"
I had to go to my cousin's wedding in South Jersey that day. I knew we'd be going back to the house afterwards for a while, then the long trip home to NYC, so I popped a VHS tape in before I left. Another cousin's husband was saying how Boston would wipe the floor with the Mets. I said in your dreams they will. Last laugh goes to the Mets. And I have the greatest baseball game ever played on tape. And my cousin is still married. Ain't life grand?
That's right. Besides the math error, Buckner had nothing to do with the loss. If he got the ball Wilson may have beat him anyway. He was just a scapegoat.
Wait a minute!!!!!! I believe something was missing. Carter and Mitchell singled right? Knight singled and Carter scored. Mitchell went to 3rd base. Mitchell would score on a wild pitch by Stanley and Knight moves to second The score is tied at 5. Then that fateful play.
It is only 17 years from 1969 to 1986. Get your Math straight. Red Sox Fans have more than "Buried The Hatchet" from this World Series.
Bill Buckner has been forgiven, and all of the Ghosts that has haunted the Red Sox, not just from 1986, but all the way back when Babe Ruth was sold to the Yankees by that Son of a Bitch New Yorker, Harry Frazee, has now been long Exorcised.
May the Bambino's Spirit Rest in Peace, and may Harry Frazee Rot in Hell!
