  • Absolutely beautiful.

I wish I could play the uke as well as you do.

    You are wonderful musician.

    :3

  • Thanks very much for watching.

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • I love the way you play, it is so beautiful. I have seen all of your viedos, and my words cannot express how beautifully you play. I am just a beginner on the Uke, but hope someday I can play as well as you do. Your very much an inspiration.

  • Thank you so much for your comment, Rebecca.

  • so im not too good at uke any tips on how to play celtic? btw i love how you played this song the strings ring out so nicely

  • Learn to read tab, use 3 fingers and thumb, smooth fingernails and use my tabs. The string ring out because I have used campanella playing.

  • Isn't this Simple Gifts, an old Shaker song? Perhaps it is actually taken from the Lord of the Dance...which was first?

  • Yes. the tune was first. It was used for the Shaker hymn. In 1967 the words to Lord of the Dance were written and this tune was used.

  • That was so pretty. And I loved the ambient birds chirping in the background. :)

  • Thanks very much.

  • Finally got around to purchasing this (and your ebook)

Now I'm all ready for my Winter holiday!

  • Hi Valerie. thank you for buying my book. Have a great winterfest.

  • thanks for writing it!

  • That is amazing! I had no idea that an ukelele could be played like that! How is it tuned please, and what make is that ukelele? I have several cheap ones and don't suppose they would sound that good....very sadly.

  • I am sorry I haven't got back to you sooner. It is an Ohana. it is tuned high G, C, E and A. There are lots of factors: solid wood, type of strings, how it is played, how it is recorded, etc.

  • @banduraplayer Check out Fingerstyleuke the hear what a cheap ukulele sounds like with good strings and a lot of practice. Aquila Nylgut strings are fairly cheap and a good addition to any string instrument.

  • Wonderful, thank you :)

  • Thanks.

  • Thanks for taking time out of your day to show us beginner uke players how it's done.

  • My pleasure.

  • Very Beautiful, thanks for sharing.

The birds add a little magic.

  • With practice you will be able to.

  • Gorgeous

  • Thank you, Tony.

  • Beautiful! The birds just add a little outdoors atmosphere. I didn't know John King passed away 'till now that is really too bad. He was truly a great player. He will be missed..

  • He will. Thanks for the comments.

  • This could have been on Pete Seeger's Rainbow Quest it's so quaint. Well done, Ken!

  • Thanks Jake. Yes, I'm pleased with it and it's not too tricky to play.

  • Very nice and the birds working for you !

  • Thanks Derek.

  • fantastic sound Ken! the birds were telling other birds about the awesome backyard concert.

  • Haha. Thanks Russ.

  • Well played Ken, well played.

  • Thanks.

  • You are just awesome, Ken.

  • Hi John, thanks.

  • It was a special blessing to find this waiting on Pentecost. Just lovely thanks.

Very, very, very minor quibble, this song just sounds better to me if I think of it as "Tis a gift to be simple".

    All the best.

  • Thanks.

I've done Simple Gifts already. But I believe the tune is much older anyway.

  • I'm no expert so I only report what I have read elsewhere but I believe that the current scholarship credits the melody to Joseph Brackett of the Shaker community and not, as previously thought, any previous tune.

it shouldn't matter as the tune is identical in both cases but the Simple Gift lyric is just so profoundly beautiful I prefer to think of it that way, that's all. Thanks again.

  • You may be right. I'd always believed that he wrote the words and that the tune was much older.

  • Lovely arrangement Ken. I would definitely get the second ebook too.

  • Thank you, Joseph.

  • Heywaitaminute
