Dianne, I do believe you will not only lift 35 lb. dumbbells again........you'll lift more. Visualize success and you'll get there. I know it will take time, dear. I believe in you. I do wish you all the success in recovering from your injury. "Babyboomers" are tough. Please check out some of my videos on Youtube. I recently reached 53 years of age. The deadlifting and heavy bag work was after grueling workouts.
@gym2594 I was moving a box with one hand (stupid idea) and pulled my right anterior deltoids. After that healed I worked back up to 35# then started getting cluster headaches from a 4x4 patio post in the head (my dogs jerked me around and into it). Once the headaches stop, I hope to get back to bench pressing.
@MrSuckerpunch666 You can probably do at least 40#. Pick up a set of 35# dumbbells. If they seem too heavy, go down to 30#. If they seem too light, go up to 40#. Then do a set of dumbbell presses (8 if you can). After doing that set, you can tell if it was too easy, just right, or too hard. Over a period of a couple months you should be able to increase to a weight that is difficult but not past your ability.
how heavy is 35lb in kg? i have a massive dumbbell with only a few 2.5kg bars on it is this wrong or right because otherwise they are light. im 15 and i want to build up alot of muscle (not tear them)
35 lb equal 15.875733 kg. Once you can do at least 10 reps, go up to the next weight. If that weight is too heavy, just do partials from top down. Over time increase the distance down until you can do a full rep.
I was using 40 lb dumbbells until I was moving a box above my shoulders (household chore) and pulled something in my ribs in back. I'm back up to 35 lb dumbbells but haven't got up to 10 reps yet.
I have a video with me doing 40s for 8 reps but since then pulled a muscle in my back that has me back to doing partial 40s for 5 reps. When ya get old ya can't bounce back like ya used ta.

Wow.......Dianne, you're hot sweetheart. Keep up the good work!

@sterjamo Thanks. Due to an injury (from dog-walking, not lifting), I haven't lifted them lately so I may not be able to do this weight anymore.

57?! I would have guessed you were in your mid 40s at the most. Anyway for a woman of your age and stature I think you are doing an exceptional job.

Not bad at all. And you don't look 57 by a long shot
cybertron71289 2 years ago
Glad to know people still workout, and you hardly look 57. =)

Thanks. I don't want to end up like Sally Field, taking a pill once a month.

haha you actually inspired my dad to workout. Hes 51 and his job is taking up a lot of his time and seeing this made him really determind to start.
