  • more than superb.

  • holy fucking shit, that's what i call talent

  • When i saw this video at the 1st time, i got a shock! Really. Bravo!!!

Echt. Bravo!!!

  • Whatever she's on I want some of!.

  • Quite good....

  • No doubt this version takes first prize for the fastest performance on record!

  • Just imagine HOW SLOW you have to excercise this piece in hope of playing it in tempo!!!

  • Everyone else finishes this prelude around ~60 seconds. I laughed when I first loaded the video and saw 0:54.

That's Argerich. :) Spectacular performance of this prelude.

  • @Kaggypants i think its just a coincidence that it turned out to be 54 seconds because she could probably play it faster but make it sound not that good

  • @2pacAmazesSuperman Oh no doubt! But this is the perfect tempo and she really brings out all the intricate melodies of this prelude despite the poor recording quality.

  • @2pacAmazesSuperman

make it sound not that good ?????? certainly you are a fat !!!!!!!

  • IMO, this is so far the most 'effortless' performance of this prelude in YT.

  • Cziffra's might have been slower, but certainly cleaner....

  • wow martha es la mejor!

  • does anyone have good quality of these recordings? i cant find any but my mp3 is loaded with songs from cd's i think i should upload them

  • presto con fuoco

  • She's kidding EVERYbody: "Is there SOMEbody out there who can play this piece in 54" or LESS"? Until now I found NObody. Is there ANYbody else who can find that SOMEbody?

  • She's kidding EVERYbody: "Is there SOMEbody out there who can play this piece in LESS then 54"? Until now I found NObody. Is there ANYbody else who can find that SOMEbody?

  • How in the world does she hit any of the right keys with those flying fingers!! She is just incredible...I've just sold my piano ): he he

  • Thank goodness we have gotten onto a nice new clean comments page... Now, can everyone just talk about relevant subjects, please?

  • Martha was thinking, "now where the hell did i leave my marlboro's?"

  • the low quality sound actually gives it something extra, like a howling or wind effect

  • Sort of like an old Sunday afternoon movie on WPIX NY by one of the Bronte sisters. Eeek! Masterful performance.

  • What the hell happened here??! Looks like a massacre (the comments that is, not the video) lol

  • what a shame

  • ok apparently japanese people are uncivilized too.

  • just to clarify, i just realized british people ARE uncivilized XD

  • i didnt know british people were so uncivilized LOL

  • OK. I have to stop with the alcohol.... I see flash fingers.

  • this isn't the place for barbarians to argue. LOL

  • @yohbyo This isn't the place for FAGGOTS to interrupt us "barbarians" when we "argue." LOL FAGGOT

  • monster

  • Man, is Martha Argerich grandma from Mezzo channel?

  • woooooooooooow, is she human?

  • holy cow

  • Wow. Piece of cake. I could play this in an hour.

  • @MsThisNameIsTaken Anybody could play it in an hour. Could you play it in 54 seconds?

  • @InsertName125 I was being sarcastic :)

  • @MsThisNameIsTaken I know.

  • As for Bach. I think you have to take into account that Bach was very inventive, but was also restricted by the rules of his time. His organ playing must have been something to see...and you think piano is hard. Try adding some fast footpedal work while you're playing two keyboards. LOL By the way Bach was one of Chopin's idols in music making. Garrick Ohllson mentions it in the video "Why Chopin? and other questions." on youtube. Also search J.S.Bach-Toccata e Fuga BWV 565-Karl Richter

  • You know Chopin must have been one hell of a pianist. I've listened to all his etudes and his preludes. Love his 1st Concerto. Liszt was supposedly even more technically skilled, but when I'm thinking of the elite, what's the difference. They were both fantastic. Too bad there isn't a better quality recording of this with Argerich on youtube. Kissin also plays it beautifully. Lots of great pianists out there. It's the one's that really make music out of it, that are outstanding.

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!

  • Orgullo Argentino!

  • @Marianosanlo Totalmente!

  • a hand job from Martha should be interesting....it should last 3.5 seconds.

  • @cisdolce Please don't bring such profanity here. You're on holy ground i.e. an Argerich video.

  • @cisdolce LOL!!!!!!!

  • it impresses me that it seems she doesnt exert that much effort at all (esp. the LH) octaves) considering the speed. as always, she plays effortless.

  • It seems to me that she raises a bit her right elbow, in order to be more agile I guess.. This should serve as an example for teachers who question technique so rigurosly.

  • At some point I thought she had 6 fingers in each hand

  • Tiempo

  • wow, can not believe her fingers can move like that.

  • ~ I'll need Int + 10 and and Agi + 15 before I can do this... WTB epic chants, plz... :-O ~

    Awesome...

  • @Aardaerimus maybe you should buy 2 ultimate orb.. :) it will increase your stats..

  • @rvn10rvn17

  • @trancosomarcus Jizz up my Crotch!!!!!

  • martha kick ass

  • ... this is nothing compared to bach. Just a lot of notes and noises...

  • @str3123 You know. Bach most of th etime doesn't have as melodic themes as Chopin..He was a master at arranging and composing, being capable of making a masterpiece out of the simplest or dullest even melodies. Two different things.

  • @CSPlayerDamon yes, so what you were trying to say is that bach was a great composer, and chopin was a great tunesmith? in fact, that statement is so true however much argument would not unhinge it. bach created good melodies - air in g - chopin created good compositions - cello sonata - but at the end of the day, bach was a composer and chopin was a tunesmith. Its so true.

  • @wagneristhebest Well, actually, both were composers, the difference being that one was better with arranging, the other with melodies. That doesn't mean Chopin wasn't good at arranging, or Bach wasn't good as a "tunesmith", of course. (Composing only consists of creating the basic theme of the piece, I think. If I am wrong, correct me please.)

  • @CSPlayerDamon hey listen, bach was a greater composer than chopin. He could envisage ideas on a greater scope than chopin, brought forward harmonies and musical inventions that would set the boundaries for centuries of work. Chopin made nice melodies that pleased people.

OF COURSE, theres a lot more to it than that. but to people who like it in a nutshell - that is the simplicity! chopin did not write much else than the melody and the accompaniment!

  • @wagneristhebest - You both problably didn't listen Chopin well.

  • @trancosomarcus that dosen't make any sense so I'm not going to try and answer.

  • @wagneristhebest - Your atitude and existence doesn't make any sense...What pieces of Chopin do you know well? Can you describe the harmony of the Preludes Op. 28, just for the beggining.

  • @trancosomarcus you obviously don't get my point my freind! Look back over my comments and reunderstand them.

  • @wagneristhebest OK! I saw it. Best Regards!

  • @wagneristhebest "reunderstand" isn't a fucking word you retard

  • @NovemVmbrae666 do you understand what I meant by reunderstand? Or are you too much of a retard to understand that? Because I didn't think my grammar and spelling applied to youtube, just to help sad, idiot motherfucker trolls like you read my comments.

  • @NovemVmbrae666 what a failure of a reply. You can't simply write an insulting comment to someone on youtube and expect not to get a reply - that just shows what a sad troll you are. Go and find a book on insults and something, 'STFU AND DIE' shows what a retard you are, not me, for attacking me on a grammar error and then writing something that makes no grammatical sense. Go and fuck off to your mental home.

  • @NovemVmbrae666 I think nearly everyone on this page has had enough of your trolling, get off and get some help, you're a total waste of space, and so idiotic you think that telling me not to talk to you will stop me from replying to your comments. You obviously need some help, so I'm doing you a favour here, go and find someone who is willing to take the time to help you!

  • @wagneristhebest you need some "help" with a goddamn nigger cock rammed up your ass you FAGGOT

  • @wagneristhebest you are a waste of space when you could have your ass plugged by niggers FAGGOT. get yourself some "help" with a nigger cock shoved up your FAGGOT ass

  • @wagneristhebest what a failure of a FAGGOT. it just shows was a sad FAGGOT you are. what a FAGGOT you are. Go and fuck off to your FAGGOT HOME YOU MOTHERFUCKING COCKSUCKING FAGGOT

  • It's clear that you don't know anything about music. I suggest you to study more and listen better. If you hear only noise, the problem is with you, that lives in XVII century!!!

  • @trancosomarcus I study music since 17 years: isn't that ok to you?

  • @str3123 No, it's not ok! I am 41 and study music since 9. If you want to discuss music in a serious way, I'm ready.

  • @trancosomarcus Bach was better - no way.

  • @str3123 I agree, I love Bach! He is the greatest of all composers. I just think that your point of view is so poor when you compare the works of two diferent periods of music history. Would you like that Mozart, Chopin Bartok, Schoenberg did their compositions in the same way of Bach?

  • Her right hand playing the last chord. musicians usually tense up to play quickly, she doesn't seem to here. amazing skill.

  • BRAVO!

  • let me just say, It is INCREDIBLE how EASY this is for her.. She does not look like she's concentrated, or trying. haha. she's freaking brilliant.

  • no, this is prelude no. 16. sure sounds like an etude though, doesnt it? :)

  • The greatest performance of this, bar none.

  • This is an etude...is it not?

  • Martha's technique is so formidable that she can play this knuckle-buster as fast as she does without trying to showcase her talents. This is the way she thinks it should be played. Yes it's very fast, faster than I'd play it. Yes the notes do blur and some of the content gets lost. But that's how she wants to play it, and it's her privilege to do so, just as it's the privilege of other performers to play it their way.

  • @TomBarrister I agree with you 100%. But is that not what "showing off" is? The music is not here, just a performer trying to impress everyone with how fast her fingers move, and butchering a fantastic piece of music in the process... Besides, I think once you get to this point of technique and speed, it´s even easier to play it at this neck break speed than it is to play it at a slightly slower tempo, while maintaining note clarity and balance, like Pogorelich does(my favorite)...

  • @fernandofariajunior It's not the same thing as showing off. Kissin shows off. He uses the music as a tool to showcase his technique. Martha, like most good musicians, does it the correct way: she uses her technique to showcase the music. i admit that she does play it a bit fast, and the music does get muddled because of it----but it's happening because that's the way she wants to play it, not because she's trying to show us how great she is.

  • @TomBarrister So Kissin plays it clearly and he´s showing off... Argerich plays it too fast and muddled, as you yourself puts it, but she´s not? hehehe.. you know, it´s ok to be a fan, no need to read musician´s minds in order to justify what their real intentions were. You like her and that´s great! For me, it´s a musical mess which only draws attention to her technique, away from the piece itself. It´s a great thing that we can listen to all of these interpretations and choose our favorites!

  • @fernandofariajunior She can play it however she pleases, and so can Kissin and anybody else. Frankly, I hate this performance. But it isn't played this way because she wasn't able to play it differently. Anybody who believes Martha doesn't have the tools doesn't know any better.

  • What a mess... if she's in such a hurry, why doesn't she just lay down on the keyboard with her whole body and that way play all the notes at once and get it over with? For me this doesn't even count as a technical show off because I really can't hear all the notes...

  • @fernandofariajunior I'm pretty sure the recording quality has something to do with that as well...

  • Neglecting the sound quality, this performance is perfect......Fast, clear and musical!!! Thanks Argerich ^^

  • Too fast. wrong.

  • This made me feel nothing. Emptyness. And it's way too fast. It has to be very fast, but it's Chopin, not a Moskowski etude.

  • @1Thompsonmusic marking is presto

  • @anonymousQ45

THE marking is presto. Don't patronise me you miserable nothing. There is no passion. Nothing. Chopin should always sound like something you can't put into words. It's magical. Spiritual. This is nothing. Dead. just fast notes and nothing else. Why don't you listen to Rafal Blechacz playing this. He plays it nearly as fast, but there is something extra there you can't put it into words.

  • @1Thompsonmusic LOL is that you in your profile pic? surely you are very miserable with that posture

  • @anonymousQ45

    Ahh shut up.

  • @1Thompsonmusic You seem like an angry person.

  • @1Thompsonmusic You are such a dummy.... Justin Bieber videos are that way ----->

    Move along.

  • boaaaaaah.... she is an amazing pianist :)

  • hallucinant!!!!

  • @Haioification Martha is the goddess, I am sure she chose this tempo for a good reason, perhaps that's how she felt this prelude on that day. She is my goddess anyway.

  • IMPRESIONANTE! GENIAAAAAAAAAA!

  • too fast..... loses clarity, rhythmic drive. just because ne CAN play something this fast doesn't mean one SHOULD.

  • @jtdendy

    You're right.

    Argerich,

  • Richter could probably play this faster, as he did in Op 10 no 4 etude...

  • Manau, kad skambina per greitai.

  • O_O

    virtuosissssima!!

  • This is fast forwarded I think ;P

  • @SirCopiesNames It's not.

  • the fastest and the worst

  • @y1g1tcn You are so damn right :-)

  • some of the best little notes ever... though the piano needs to be changed

  • Way too damn fast. Kissin's rendition is perfect.

  • omg she is crazy :D:D:D

  • OMG :D Not :D

  • It feels like she's just rushing through it.

  • soooo not chopin :-S

  • wow, how fast ;O

  • Trop court!

  • short but CHARMING!!

  • no offense to you martha lovers out there but this sounds like shit....

  • @warmen0808 "sounds like shit". Is that so? I think you're jealous :)

  • Well, yea... the sound is horrible not her playing you dumbass. i think your just an idiot :) If you like that sound quality you must be a horrible musician...if you are one which i doubt.

  • @warmen0808 are you fucking stupid, you little retarded kid? "No offense to you martha lovers, but sounds like shit" that means you don't like Argerich. I doubt you could do it any better yourself, though. Why not put a video up of your playing? Oh wait, I forgot; you can't play piano. Lousy retard

  • @Lity10 your actually trying to tell me what I meant to say? you MUST be an idiot....lol Sure ill put a video up :)

  • Please if Martha Argerich is playing, try to upload a video of the quality she deserves. The sound is awful and the pitch is too fast. Please go for better recording quality fro Martha...

  • @parodign60 haha calm down. i bet if she were to meet you she wouldnt give a crap about who you are...

  • Oh god my life is pointless lol.

  • I worked long & hard to get to play Op28 No. 16 but could never play it at this ridiculously fast pace. It's not easy but great fun to play, wish I could do it now!

Martha is wonderful but I can't help thinking that she is showing off a bit with this piece. DrJobs is right. Too fast. OMG.

  • TOO FAST!!! O.O omg!

  • One of the best pianists alive
