So I recently set up a well system in my fortress on DF. I keep running into the same problem though. The job to fill the wells is created, but the dwarfs will fill the well with the well water. As in, they literally draw a bucket of water from the well and then toss it back into the well. Since no new water is ever put into the wells, they slowly dry up. Does anybody know how to stop this?
I'm enjoying your kind of walkthroughs. normally I watch people that joke around alot, it can get a bit stupid. I like this sort of serious gameplay with humor in moderation. :)
Babies are a very effective bio-weapon. Once I had a wrestler nursing a baby underground continuously so the baby got cave adaption. Then suddenly, goblin raid. The mother took the child into battle outside and it started spewing barf EVERYWHERE effectively blinding and occasionally poisoning the unlucky goblins it hit (which was a lot because the mother was a wrestler)
how do you remove and add skills? say for example youre building a trade depot but you cant because you dont have a dwarf with architecture. how do you make the dwarf learn architecture? help
how did you get that river of water underground? or was it just naturally there? and if it wasnt, how did you build the corridor for the water without your dwarves drowning? Hopefully you will explain it in a later video.
Wait a second. When making a well. I understand that it has to be over the water. Though, when i place it. Can i just place it in the floor? U mentioned a shaft?
@gatedude07 i lost fifteen dwarves to those bloodthirsty beasts. Then, the rest of my dwarves went berserk with grief. I went from about 30+ dwarves to six.
@captnduck Well I don't know if anyone has said it already, but "too" is a word that you use when you mean "also" or "as well" or "additionally." But "to" is a prepositional word, so like, you give things TO people, and you travel TO places... That sort of thing.
Then there's "two." It's a number. >__> But I think you know that.
I don't figure that the captions will be edited, but there's some handy information anyway.
Yeah, just find an alternate dwarf to take on the labors of a carpenter. Go to one via [u] and go to preffered labors in the small menu. From there just highlight what you want them to do. It's easy. The new dwarf won't be very good though.
Bridges doesn't really need water, they can be build under Chasms, and Magama also, just to tell you, btw I learned all of this before you made this xD.
Also, if you don't want your water source to freeze (if you live in a cold enviroment like I do), make the some of the channel some of the river source inside your fort, there it won't freeze, and please don't build it where it'll flood the fortress also.
Thanks so much for making these videos! I only heard of this game 2 days ago, and I never would have been able to make sense of it so quickly without your tutorials. Thanks again!
I should be finishing a big project and study for 2 tests.
But I'm gonna watch this instead!

Carp surprised a friend of mine, when he first encountered them in the game; he lost a hunter to them. :)

Great videos. Much easier to learn the game when watching as opposed to only reading about it.
It's spelled "too," though. Driving me mad! :) Oh, and at the beginning of this one it says "...video tutorial part 17..."
Truth3w3 2 years ago 3
too? What was spelled wrong?
on the other thing thats prolly an old cut n paste error, but im not going to spend tons of time to fix a minor error like that.

Are "The Nameless One" and "Kasumi" refrences to Raymond E. Feists novels?
Darknight11222 2 years ago
No, all the dwarf names are video game characters. The nameless one is from planescape torment, and kasumi is from some fighting game.

Is "Space Marine" a reference to Warhammer 40K or Doom?
Doom2Guy 2 years ago 3
Good question :)
It's a reference to Doom.

I keep trying to make a well, but my dwarves stop digging because they hit damp rock. What the hell?
MyNameIsBucket 2 years ago
It's maybe an aquifer or there is water next (the water can be one z level up) to that tile.
TomCatFort 2 years ago
That's interesting but it doesn't fix my problem of my dwarves not wanting to dig any more.
MyNameIsBucket 2 years ago
Try to designate that area again. But most cases you don't want to mine out damp walls except you want the water to come in.
Does they stopped mining non damp stone?
TomCatFort 2 years ago
Great! Thanks so much for making these tutorials. They help immensely
Cabot696 2 years ago
As far as I know, you don't need to make a "well room" for the well to be used. I prefer to not make a well room, but it doesn't really matter.

I laughed at Megaman and Protoman, all of my dorfs are named after robot masters.
Slashcko 2 years ago
Wells will still work even in VERY far above the water source? Like, 10 z-levels above?
