I just got the CD last week. I haven't gone past this song even though I burnt a live version and saw the shows... It begs a Club Remix. In 1999 'Maria' made a massive mark (and threw Chers' 'Believe' out of Guiness). This song just begs to be played louder each time. Debbie Harry, you don't just have it.... YOU OWN IT! This young Aussie boy still thinks you're awesome. That won't stop :-)
oh, my god, this reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally needs to get up up up on the charts!!!! This is real talent if after 20 years you can come back and make another smash hit yet we settle for Ke$ha nowadays. Come on, Blondie lets remind people of what music SHOULD be like.
this is fucking terrible. sounds like she wrote the lyrics whilst taking a shit. fuck off you talentless bitch you had your time and even then you were bollocks just like most of the shit that the 80s spurted out
Shame that they have morphed into a band trying to imitate Blondie. This song next to the likes of Sunday Girl, Atomic, HOTT or anything of Parrelel Lines shows how and there is no contest.
Ah...at last some new material from Blondie. This sounds and feels like a pop anthem to me, with some experimental "Blondie" signatures that defined "Maria" as the bulletproof hit single it became. How does Harry avoid getting lost in the mix? There's a lot happening at once here (a tingling baseline, a falsetto refrain "Woo-hoo-hoo"), yet Harry's vocal presence is still a powerful one, and she seems in total control. She's older but still powerful, like a vintage hand grenade.
Blondie is the most amazing band in the whole world! They still rock out loud and kick asses! Hope this should be their first single instead of Mother... :)
I agree they should beef up this version, specifically the verses. The chorus sounds good. And the guitar solo from the live version is so much better also.
I think they need to beef this version up a little and make it a fuller sound. It's kind of light and fluffy. Surprisingly the live version is better.
wow amazing! i knew blondie had another kick ass record in them. why is it available online? i was just watching a video about debbie saying thats why she wouldnt let frank play at rock n roll inductation. court issues. anyone know if they have a label yet? or a release date?
No, they say that this song shares the vibe and themes of another song by Green Day. It has nothing to do with copying or the overall style of Green Day
Also, I can´t help thinking that Debbie is saying "I heard it all before", it`s a total bore, as if she`s saying that about the Madonna song, which is also bout a cheater...
@polniumanable McDonna is a cheap imitation of the legendary Deborah Harry. McDonna made a career out of ripping off Debbie. McDonna is responsible for spawning cheap acts like Britney etc. Yuck. Debbie inspired talent such as Shirley Manson. Big difference, eh?
@blondgod1999... No offense to Madonna, I was joking on my comment below, but Debbie to me means rock and roll, glamour and modern art all packed in one person, that by the way happens to be one of the greatest beauties of the planet earth... her face should be put next to the Pyramids and the Falls as the eight wonder
this song reminds me of the vibe I felt when Green Day´s "When I come around" came out, does anyone else thought of that?... Kind of a suburban tale of people struggling through bad times, but with a powerful rythms as if the music could bring happiness and hope to the lyrics!
@polniumanable I totally agree I said the same thing to a friend it feels very Green Day-ish !! I would love to see a Debbie Harry Green Day collaboration that would rock !!
@edwardkary Debbie and Green Day sounds totally possible for me... Every female singer runs to have a pic with her... I`ve seen pics of Debbie with Karen O, Lily Allen, Santogold, Goldfrapp... but it is difficult to compare Blondie to other girl-fronted band -for whatever reason they disolve soon-, the fact that Debbie is a beautiful girl is just that -a fact!- , for me Blondie is as solid a band as U2 or The Cure or Metallica.
Debbie at her most lambent shows more intent and precision than most other singers. She is a master musician with bottomless self-reference to play with, AND she's got Clem.
Interesting lyrics. Catchy yet different. Back to what they do best: Punk. The 80's guitar solo- you've "heard it all before," but goes in an unexpected direction, NOT "a total bore." Debbie's straight forward approach to the lyrics without trying to over sing it is refreshing and the fade out end with the background vocals, "you told me...you told me" repeat is also different. Gives it a mad crazy eerie cool. Very Blondie indeed. I hope they chart big this time around. Videos will help.
@bearnanarama I think the more "relaxed" vocals need to be mixed a little higher as they tend to get drowned out. Otherwise I agree that it harks back to the earlier unrefined punk sound that Blondie what they are.
Love this song just don't like the verse parts Debbies vocals seems lame like can't be arsed but the chorus sounds great also the guitar 2 chords really are to loud and annoying but still a good song. more vocal vemon in the verses and It would of been amazing.
I think this should be on the radio instead that hip hop bullshit. Some of its okay but really? It's dominating the radio now and I hate it!
