I am still more surprised that there wasnt a part 2 of the story, telling how mankind using the invader's tech, would say: "and now it's our turn!!!" Would be great to hear the orchestra as massive human space ships would fly over.
I remember this coming out when I was just 11 years of age. That's Richard Burton's voice isn't it? This is superb. I'd forgotten all about it. Brings back a great time I had when I was 12.
My Dad bought this album when it first came out and I remember the incredible artwork of the cover and the album sized folio of prints that he got with the double album, that was even before I'd heard the music! Needless to say that I've loved the music ever since as well...and that stupid film with Tom Cruise, aka Poison Dwarf Nutter, should be sued for breach of copyright as it bears no relation to either H.G.Wells OR Jeff Wayne!
@songooten Your right my friend.I remember the movie. At the time,it was a real good one.Though the special effects aren't what they are today, for the time,it was great.
@songooten Come to think of it, I believe I saw that one, both in black&white and color. Was the colored version trully "colored in" from the black&white version?
I visited UK in October and bought the DVD for the princely sum of £7! I've watched it over and over again and it blows me away every time! I've now owned the LP, CD and DVD; a musical masterpiece!
If people don't respect the work that went into this, the blend of the classical and contemporary instruments, the portrayal of the story through music rather than sound effects, well their opinion isn't worth a damn. Just because your computer can make something similar for you doesn't make you an artist. Wish I'd have seen this live :D
@omaraty008 On the stage, true. But back in 1978, I really have a doubt... :) Do you know the story of this masterpiece? 1975-'78 tells you something? These guys recorded miles of multitrack tape only to create a mix they didn't like, cut in pieces and start all over again.... No digital conversion, no resampling, no digital signal processing... And again NO COMPUTERS. Sometimes we forget how easy it is today to make a "waka-waka" in a few days at most... Jeff spent three years to create this.
@braxious That's exactly what I said. As opposed to current "an album-a-day musicians", Jeff et Co. did everything by themselves. no samples, no beats, no digital sound processors. And it took them three years to reach this kind of perfection. Wonderful work.
Had a friend pick up this DVD set for me whilst he was visiting London. I can't play it until I get a region free DVD player but very soon. Brilliant piece of work this.
dit zocht ik kon niet opkomen mooi is dit je webside ben je druk je moet liever niet steeds veranderen ik wou veel doen ik zit nu aan pause toe the changing i can,t handdle now ok angel xxx
Love how the orchestra have got a sort of 19th Century steampunk vibe going on, but Jeff has just rocked up in his "i'm going out for a Taco," shirt on. You should have made an effort Jeff lol. I'll let you off for the music though :-)
It was mindblowing watching it live. The music coursing through your body, totally immersed in it.And the sounds of the rolling explosions.....you could see the fittings in the theater vibrates as it traveled away from the stage...great atmosphere, and a huge mix of age too in the audience.
The best version of War of the Worlds ever, and so far superior to the vomit-inducing tripe put forward by Tom "Wacko-Scientology-Creep" Cruise. It forces you to think about the words and somehow makes it all the more creepy. I'm so glad to see the DVD exists, I never knew it did! Hell yeah, off to buy...
I heard this when i was 18 brings back so many fond memories of my days at university...fantastic album one of the all time greats...put on headphones turn off lights and enjoy this great cd
@Keichwoud357 The Classic War of the Worlds (2005) NR - Directed by Timothy Hines, this direct-to-video thriller faithfully follows the classic H.G. Wells sci-fi novel about a 19th-century British writer (Anthony Piana) who witnesses a shocking Martian attack, with the English countryside as ground zero. As the military tries to intervene, the apocalyptic chaos separates the author from his beloved wife.
@Keichwoud357 Yes I certainly agree when Tom Cruise brought out the last WOTW i thought it was going to be based in 1800's and even possibly have the soundtrack of this alongside. Now that would be a movie. I have seen this show twice and I am a big fan.....Love it.
@TheTBSPRODUCTIONSX a what now lol nah m8 most came here because we enjoy the jeff waynes album/concert and above all it scared loads of people when aired on the radio one year lol

@musicman88keys It really was one of the best things I've ever done. The tour goes all around Europe, making the most stops in Britain, where I saw it.
@SuperPatrickramon There is a big gap between one thing and another, in the gap, sits comfortably, other opinions on music or things to do to pass the time. . It is verging on illegal discrimination for you to lable folk with an opinion opposed in some way to your own, as Martian or any other label. . Just watch your back. Imagine watching your back from a position other than your regular view-point. . . Cheers. from, del-boy.
I used to live near Horsell Common, Woking where in the book the first cylinders landed (eve of the war). In Woking town center there is a martian cylinder and a replica of the martian tripod. Amazing story and amazing music. Thank you H.G. Wells :)
@LUNDUNA1 I bought a car on the internet and had to pass Horsell Common to collect it. I had no idea it was an actual place until then. I was like a kid at Christmas. Then I recognised more local signs from the album and the book.
Since it came out in the 70's, I've owned this album on vinyl, cassette, and cd (Never had an 8-track or I probably would have got that too). Even ordered the dvd from anazon.uk a few years ago even though I live in the US. Definately worth picking up if you can.
@FerrariGood - Concerning the dislikes, there are always those that are negative. If anyone cannot enjoy this classic masterpiece, then they have a problem beyond music.
This score is pure perfection as far as music goes.
@FerrariGood well, altoguh i really apreciate this being remade and such, ive got to admit that it doesnt really strike the same nerve somehow, not that its bad in anyway, it just doesnt quiet get the same feeling of the original track, hope you know what i mean?

I'm not usually one to say a comment like "How can anyone dislike this?!" but I'm afraid I have to.
I really can't see a flaw in this masterpiece. Why and how can anyone dislike it?

@FerrariGood - Concerning the dislikes, there are always those that are negative. If anyone cannot enjoy this classic masterpiece, then they have a problem beyond music.
This score is pure perfection as far as music goes.

@FerrariGood How about this. Jeff Wayne has never performed in Hawai'i. And I don't see him doing that. =Stefan=

@FerrariGood well, altoguh i really apreciate this being remade and such, ive got to admit that it doesnt really strike the same nerve somehow, not that its bad in anyway, it just doesnt quiet get the same feeling of the original track, hope you know what i mean?
