Dolphins hate sharks and in fact, sharks are scared of dolphins. The Orca is essentially a large dolphin. Orcas not only hate sharks, they sometimes eat them. Dolphins 1, Great White 0.
@paleophonus regardless. sharks have a unfair bad rap and compared to other animals they are fairly innocuous (statistically). I think it's the combination of the aquatic environment (something unfamiliar to homo sapiens) that makes sharks unfairly seem threatening (plus jaws rubbish film). many other species (that are land species) are much more dangerous (their reputation hasn't been inflated into something inaccurately harmful). not sure if that was coherent; a bit fatigued lol.
The Orca knows that when the shark is upside down it goes into paralysis mode. They regularly attack smaller Mako sharks by flipping them over. People say ohhhh well if it was a 20 footer would of been different. GWS nowhere near as large, angry or clever as made out in jaws. Even a 20 foot white shark is very very very rare n might not even exist at present
@Moejoe733 Up to 23 feet has been witnessed recently, though the upper end of 19 is more common. There are def great whites larger than 20 feet though. Still, even if it was a 20 footer, Orca's are smart, and humans are proof positive of the theory 'brains over brawn.' Almost anything in our environment could overpower us. So we made tactics, blades, tools, guns, and the martial arts. Apply force with thought, and its all the more deadly.

Did not see no evidence of a killer whale killing and eating a great white. It looked like whale blubber to me. Very poor camera video. Even though I probably would bet on the orca. A 20 foot great white would be hard to get it's mouth around. Think about it. Great whites are as wide as a small car. Dont think an orca can even open its mouth that wide. All the shark would have to do is dive deep. Orcas are mammals therefore they must come up to breathe. I don't know bout this one. Very poor :(
Are you kidding? Killer Whales are much more bigger and robust than Great whites, especially at it's adult stage. The mouth of a killer whale reaches twice the diameter of a great white and with much more force.
@hanksamples It was a juvenile 14ft GWS named Jerry Garcia. And if you think the footage was poor, you try getting crystal clear footage of anything in the water at the Farallons. Especially between Aug-Nov.
plenty of orca haters here,if it's any comfort that was a baby great white..a full grown one vs one orca would have been a bit of fight.thankfully those whales r smart enough not to take on a fully grown shark one on one
@RoseyRascal If it was'nt shot from a boat called Spearfish, the only other footage from that day was shot by naturalist Peter Pyle with a camera on a long pole.He got the footage of the Orca with the sliver of liver in it's mouth.Anyone who tells you there was a cameraman in the water for this is a liar and a fool.
@stanboyd1 Orcas are found in all the worlds Oceans, from the North to the South Poles, the clear, warm waters of the New Hebrides, and the chilly, murky waters here at the Farallon Islands off San Francisco.GWS prefer cooler temperate waters where they will find marine mammals to eat,but they are not averse to warmer waters when it suits them.Like off Guadalupé Island in Mexico or the waters north of Jurien Bay in Western Australia, the Great Barrier Reef or the Red Sea.
It's good to see an intelligent mammal eat an oversized dumb fish. Humans rule the land and air, Orcas rule the sea. Us warm blooded creatures are superior!
This is the best footage they could capture? Pathetic. I can't tell if it's even actually attacking a shark or if this was merely edited to vaguely look like it
@goatboyful--Depends on the orcas. Some pods are known to only eat cold-blooded fish, while others prefer warm-blooded mammals. Obviously this one likes both! (Since they said she was part of an attack on a great whale calf.)
@goatboyful Of course I was attempting to be funny. I probably know more about orcas than you do. The only thing you probably know is what you see off Free Willy.
I have actually been on expedition where we got to see orcas in natural habitat not a crappy aquarum. many times I have seen them demolish a seal. Thats nature and killing happens.
@agenthelios1 Actually i've never seen 'Free Willy', it's a kids adventure film, how realistic is going to be.Nor do i intend to get in a pissing contest over "..oh i know more than you!" Why isn't PETA suing the orca for the senseless killing of that shark?? They wanna give the one's at Sea World rights similar to those of humans... so why aren't they demanding this and the millions of other animals out in the world be tried for murder?? smh...
@KnightStark because sharks are half as intelligent and much more abundant than orcas. Sharks have been around for millions upon millions of years and don't need any protecting.
@dawgpost90 I was just casually thinking aloud while viewing this video and decided to post my thoughts. I'm so glad you felt the need to humor me with an equally stupid question, although you may want to make sure next time you form your thoughts into a proper sentence so that you can make slightly more sense. Also, don't forget to have a 2nd grader proofread it for any punctuation errors.
i@KnightStark Lol as if posting a comment on youtube needs to be correctly punctuated...I forgot I was writing a term paper for you. " Also, don't forget to have a 2nd grader proofread it for any punctuation errors." Again with the shitty wit man?....seriously you need to work on your smart-ass ability.
Orcas have been know to attack humans too. Many ppl believe that it is they who are on top of the oceanic food chain, and not sharks. Beautiful, and deadly.
@9chaos1forever1 Since when? Aside from the woman who was drowned at Sea World when that one Orca dragged her under the water by her ponytail, I've never heard of Orcas attacking humans in the wild. Like most dolphins, they usually leave humans alone.
@44excalibur Once again another youtuber speaking without researching. Look it up brother. At least 6 trainers have died due to orca attacks. There have been numerous attacks as well but with little or no fatalities. As for in the wild attacks there have been several incidents. A surfer in Cali was attacked and recieved over 100 stitches from a single bite.
@9chaos1forever1 And you're assuming I haven't done my research, which I have. The only recorded incidents of fatalities with Orcas such as the one I mentioned have been in captivity. There are none of wild Orcas killing humans, and those few that have were non-fatal. I read about the surfer in Cali. There was also a 12-year-old boy in Alaska named Ellis Miller who was bumped in the shoulder by a 25-foot Orca who misidentified him as prey. The boy was not bitten or injured in any way.
This whale, since she has a name from researchers, has obviously been observed doing this before, so it wasn't a matter of luck on their part. She has been tracked and her patterns studied until they knew when she was likely to show up in her favorite "alternative" meal, so they had a camera on her and caught it in action. This is what science allows us to see!
@benhurober that gives the wrong impression that a great white has a chance against an orca. Great Whites average 12-16 feet in length and Orcas average 22-27 feet, and Orcas are far more intelligent.
@Arodblade There's a documentary called The Whale That Ate Jaws or something where an orca does. It just rushes the shark, flips it over, eats the liver and leaves. Epic.
unfortunately they kill dolphins too. damn i wish i could remember the name of this great Orca documentary. it was about a family of orcas that used to return to this whaling village(not in japan) somewhere and would actually help the locals catch what they needed. it was cool and if anyone has seen it and can remember the name let me know.
@staticxmr: "Murder"? It's called survival of the fittest, natural selection, and food. Murder isn't done to eat. This is called an animal doing what it was made to do, hunt food.
@staticxmr What, it's murder because the shark died? Guess all carnivorous animals are guilty of MASS MURDER, despite the fact that they're doing this to survive and don't know any better. Lets introduce them to a vegan diet! :D
@lljcool7 I'm not a troll, this video is pretending to be footage of a fight between a killer whale and a shark, but nobody was there with a video camera for this incident in 1997. They arrived after the fact. So this video is pretending to be something it isnt.
You can debate the veracity of this video, but I personally saw an Orca kill a great white easily this large back in 1997, after tossing it about like a rag doll for what seemed like forever.

unfortunately they kill dolphins too. damn i wish i could remember the name of this great Orca documentary. it was about a family of orcas that used to return to this whaling village(not in japan) somewhere and would actually help the locals catch what they needed. it was cool and if anyone has seen it and can remember the name let me know.

i like how the orca basically guillotine chokes the shark (by holding it upside down - tonic immobility)

This is why the mascot of any Navy should be the Orca. They're just so badass.

Despite the fact that this thing is brutally murdering a great white shark, all you can think when you see an orca is "YAY SHAMUU!!!"
staticxmr 1 month ago
@staticxmr: "Murder"? It's called survival of the fittest, natural selection, and food. Murder isn't done to eat. This is called an animal doing what it was made to do, hunt food.

@staticxmr I bet people tell you to shutup a lot!
robbchr 1 month ago
@staticxmr What, it's murder because the shark died? Guess all carnivorous animals are guilty of MASS MURDER, despite the fact that they're doing this to survive and don't know any better. Lets introduce them to a vegan diet! :D

All I saw was a bunch of bubbles and stock-footage of killer whales.

@BigBadassR Next time try filming an Orca killing a Great White in 3D you fucking troll
lljcool7 1 month ago 4
@lljcool7 I'm not a troll, this video is pretending to be footage of a fight between a killer whale and a shark, but nobody was there with a video camera for this incident in 1997. They arrived after the fact. So this video is pretending to be something it isnt.

@BigBadassR
You can debate the veracity of this video, but I personally saw an Orca kill a great white easily this large back in 1997, after tossing it about like a rag doll for what seemed like forever.

@Babyhowdy233 Dare i ask when and where did you see it and do you have one iota of proof or evidence to back that claim?
