Wait a second...the camera goes in the front of the jib? Damn, I have been doing it wrong all these years. I'm so glad you released all of these tips.
Just rent one; they are extremely cheap to rent (my friend got one for a day for $25) and so expensive that you'd never justify the cost if you where to buy it outright.
Really, the only things you'd be justified in buying is stuff that you would need on every shoot; a camera, and its equipment (lenses/tripod/cases) and audio stuff
Outside of that, only buy stuff outside of that if you plan on becoming a specialist in the field; like only buy a Steadicam if you plan to make money as a Steadicam operator. (Which is a nice way to get money)
Although I'm sure there are people who disagree with me; one guy I know owns everything from c-stands to arri kits and he seems happy, although also in extreme in debt.
Chaucer if he wanted to do all those i'm sure he could. There's no need to put someone down who has more knowledge then you. In order to get the most of these videos isn't to see what he does, but to think of your own movie and how you can incorperate his ideas to make your film better.
First off, how do you know if he has more knowledge than I do? In fact, you don't. Also, even if he did, it doesn't discount what I said. If what I said is true then it doesn't matter who has more experience than whom. I just hold people that claim to be experts on something to a high standard. I don't think it is innapropriate to do this. I'm not saying that he is wrong in what he says, just that he isn't exemplifying profesionalism in his product.
For someone claiming to be an expert on video production, the sound is poor, the lighting is poor, and the overall production value is poor. Why would anyone want to take this advice. This is more of "How Not To" vid than a "How To" vid.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that you must know this guy to defend him as you are. I could be wrong...? Why would anyone want to listen to me? Maybe because what I say makes sense... Also, why the name-calling, what did I do besides state the obvious shortcommings of this? If you disagree with me, then state why you disagree and how I am wrong. But please stay on topic and don't resort to the sophomoric tactics of namecalling. Please act decently. :-)
What's that pole that holds a microphone on the top of it?
