  • the same add before everyvideo <3

  • I've been learning ASL since i was 5 and this is mostly BS. dont learn from thisn video.

  • emichlo, sign language are like spoken languages... it depends on accent depending on the area of the country. There are many spoken language over the world and it is the same with sign language... Spain has their own sign language, France has their own and so on

  • This person is signing incorrectly. 1 - 5 palm orientation is facing the signer but 6 - 10 is facing outward.

  • expert village my ass, telling us wrong

  • Im not sure where to start.

  • Omg!! That is sooo different from what I learned

  • Yes, the palm orientation is wrong. Could be because she is not qualified to teach ASL, and "learned" from a book, and now she is spreading her mistakes all across the Internet. Please rate this video one star ("poor") so that she doesn't get more fools duped into thinking she knows what she is doing.

  • This video is a complete disaster.

  • lololololol and the alphabet A through Zay

  • Hahaahahaha!!!

  • i caught that! lol lol lol oops! lol

  • wowwowowowowow she is right what are yhu guys talking a bout wow tha direction is wrong whoppdiyydoo

  • Ha ha ha! she said aboot... ;)

  • Oh, this time the bio says (in Spanish): Melissa Schenk will teach you how to budget your expenses on purchases of gifts for the holidays.

Hmmm ... not Melissa Schenk is a certified ASL teacher.

    This video STINKS.

  • Did any notice that her "qualifications" are in Spanish? Want to know what they say? Something like "Melissa helps you with decorating your home." She is actually a broadcasting personality, not a sign language "expert" in any way, since she has ZERO qualifications. She is just acting the part. I agree with BYUFanatic and check out his videos. He is the best ASL teacher on YouTube. Enough said!

  • Would be helpful if these lessons were numbered. Lesson #1, lesson #2 etc... =)

  • As an expert, you should recognize the MAJOR errors she makes while signing the numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 right?

Check mine out for the correct way to sign them.

  • thank u for doing this video****

  • I've signed with a lot of different people with many different styles but I've never seen the numbers 6-9 with the hand facing the signer before....

  • agree

  • yeah, she probably forgot in the process of recording or maybe she really does sign it that way, but I agree it should be facing the person because if u read below people are already getting confused LOL i.e. F vs 9 and W vs 6 hence why we face it forward for numbers :)

  • That's because she did them completely wrong. That's what happens when you teach yourself signs from a book.

  • whats the difference between the number 9 and the letter F. because they look alot alike

  • They are the same, just like "W" is also "6" and "V" is the same as "2". you just have to pay attention to the context of the sentence when someone is signing to know if they are fingerspelling or saying a number.

  • Let's try to make the rating system work here. Let's rate this poor and see if ExpertVillage notices. She is always making mistakes, and also her hands often face the wrong way. I am rating all of her videos with one star, poor, to see if that impacts the scoring. I am rating the ehow ASL guy 4 or 5 stars for his videos.

  • agreed and rated

  • Im sorta turned on by this teacher.

  • somthing else going on with your hands

  • lol!

Thanks for pointing out the numerous errors in these videos. I think I'll try to learn from other authors.

  • DEFINITELY a good idea. I applaud you for looking for other (more accurate) sources.

  • The signs might be right but the hand has to be showing into the other direction, not to your body, but outward.

  • ok . i want to learn asl but everyone says that she is doing it all wrong in every single video... can somebody who really knows upload a vid for the youtubers please??

  • haha, she said "a through zed" she's from canada

  • dazholst is correct, your palm orientation should be away from you when you're signing 6-9. Another thing, why does she put her hand at her side after every number? It's annoying to watch, just keep your hand there! If you're trying to learn numbers in ASL, try another video, this is bad.

  • Do not learn from that clip because it was WRONG! My question is.. what is your experience with ASL? I am from a deaf family and ASL is my first language. You exhibited how to count and it was not the right way. You counted the numbers with palm facing you from 1 to 10. It should be palm facing you from 1 to 5 and then palm out from 6 to 9.

  • Thanks for the info.

  • please do a video..

  • What's a Canadian know about AMERICAN sign language?

  • Canadians learn ASL and are typically more proficient in ASL than Americans...

  • thank yoU!!

  • Bravo. It's good to see that you (and others) recognize that this woman knows nothing about ASL. Anyone can check out a sign language book at a library, but she demonstrates what happens when you learn from a book rather than from a real person who is fluent in the language.

  • She does 6-9 the wrong direction. Expertvillage is a total joke. It should be called retardvillage or something lol

  • LMAO

  • @dazholst In addition, this lady should've taken the ASL course that I took at CSUN, she would have failed it easily.

  • @dazholst thsnkss!

  • @dazholst i am confused, i am trying to learn sign language to become a teacher for the deaf, but another video showed me 1-10 differently (6 was made by folding your thumb on the top of your hand) why are some different?

  • @dazholst i really want to learn how to learn the sing language where can i leanr? is it really difficult?

  • @lamoskgr, say it with sign is good! There are coffee chats around the country. You can find them at starbucks where deaf and not deaf ppl go to have conversations and learn! They are posted online at deafchat I think. look it up

  • @shawndaineurope that's great thank you very much!
