  • wow! so many Houston references! I miss those days, so much has changed. I can;t find this song anywhere! any suggestions?

  • Comment removed

  • This tune takes me back to the old school night life of Houston. It used to be where you can park your car on Westhiemer and take a night stroll down the club scenes. The old Numbers was rocking on Thursday (ladies night). But that have changed now, too much crimes, and you might get picked up by the police or a hooker. (smile)

  • Holy Crap!!! I have been looking for this forever! From Houston! I used to go to Therapy, Cars, NRG, and #'s. I always had a suit coat and glasses on with jacked up hair. Good times!

  • chuck from Houston / NRG/#'s/red square/Club AM/therapy/powertools/some i cant remember/some im just too tired to type!!! lol Any way ...Im still here!!!

  • OK this is just weird. This is the SECOND time I've run into Houston and #s people tonight... tell me... you guys think it's the music? ;)

  • anyone interested should check out "The King of Griefs" raido show every Tuesday's sometime between 12 & 4:00pm on the college raido station. I don't remember at the moment which one though-it's either 90.1 or 91.7F.M. He will take requests and has almost all the songs you could think of that were played back then. unfortunately all my 12"s were destroyed in an apartment fire out in Phoenix and it's hard to explain a song this Colm iii one to anyone out there. no one i met had ever heard it!

  • I love reading these threads. i'm another h-town club kid who found my love on 93Q's fri & sat night radio shows. 3 or 4 dozen recorded tapes later I found myself old enough to finally see the inside of the places I could only dream about before. Closest to me was cars on 1960 where The Normals, "Warm Leatherett" was the house song with the (does anyone else remember?) electric slide being the house dance everytime it was played. Anotherone was N10city off Hwy.6. both came after club 6400.

  • Hey, you need to get with the PAST PRESENT PRODUCTIONS site on FB, they manage the reunions of all those great industrial club music days along with the DJ's...having one in August too.

  • @tretrioeciii: The song you're thinking of is M.E.S.H.- Meet Every Situation Head On. "Nothing you do with your body or hands or anything gets us excited."

  • Love this song! Have this record but my son broke my record player so I'm happy to hear it here.

  • @southaustinangel ROFL! that means we're old farts! driving past the ol' 6400 building looking at it now with the thoughts, "what have they done with you".....

  • h-town

  • @wawrzyszko

    clud tantra 1994

    badass

  • Thearpy was my home for several years me, Michelle, Micheal, Dumbo, Kevin and "Billy bob". hahaha good times.

  • Are you from Houston ?. I was born and raised there. I grew up in Alief. I went to 6400, Therapy, red square, shark dance, dv8, efx, studio circus, peters wild life, club zoo, which was in Rosenberg. I was a club kid from hell. This song brings back a ton of memories. I used record live on Maxell tapes the dj sets off of 93Q. This was before it went country. Oh I went to splash which was on Westhiemer. Any way if your not from Houston then you missed the greatest club scene in Texas

  • @mrdefkon1 Hell yeah! Right there with you! Great times! I also went club NRG too.

  • @mrdefkon1 I am; my uncle went to Hastings :) We are totally on the same wavelength. #s class of 92 :)

  • I have this on limited edition blue vinyl not sure what it is worth anyone know?

  • Probably a nice chunk of change. If it is blue vinyl then you could possibly contact Wax Traxx records and tell them what you have and they might give you an idea. My friend did that with Don't Walk by The Big Supreme and he had red vinyl. They said somewhere in the area of 50-100 dollars depending on the condition. Good luck.

  • First heard DJ Wild Bill play this at Club A off of Lovers and Greenville in Dallas in 1988. Got my copy at Bill's Records. i loved this track, prefer the original more.

    DJ LLBishop

  • Funny how everyone knows it's Houston..hahahaha....wow...

  • I used to work at IBM ... next time you are in a US Post Office, listen to the Scanner "ack beep" code ...

  • I've been looking for this freaking song since the late 80's! THANK GOD I FOUND THIS VIDEO! Is Colm III the group/person who sings it? I can't find it on iTunes. WHERE CAN I GET THIS SONG! THIS MADE MY DAY!

  • @dwm1812 the authors of this song is from Bryan, TX. yeah.. surprising, eh? It's kinda like "The Hunger" singing with fake english accents when they were from Texas too!

  • @ecmatic oooh, i have this in a good mp3 file. email me and i;ll send it to ya.

  • ..........H - TOWN.......

  • 6400 Richmond

  • Thearpy...that was a club!

  • Hell yeah #s!!!! i'm not a big fan of the scene but the music is worth going for

  • I should have never sold this record. Who remembers club Therapy in Houston? I wish I still had all my 80's vinyl.

  • @djtransitions I remember club Therapy. Some good times. I don't where the fun has gone though. I went just the other day to SoBe, Rich's and man they're full of little shits who have not humor or sense of fun. Everybody now has an attitude problem. Geez, give a good movie and I rather stay home.

  • @djtransitions Dude I was in Therapy every night it was open. Houston club scene back then was the best ever. Another place was NRG on Sheperd off I 10.

  • how come it's mostly us Houstonians who remember this song? #'s on Fridays, to this day (2009), is the only place that still plays this.

  • Well if I remember correctly they were from College Station. At least that's what I remember from my 12".

I was always impressed at the time that a techno song of this caliber was actually coming from so close to home. (I'm from Houston too)

I can't find a mention of them on wikipedia, so all know s what I remember from the vinyl.

  • @ecmatic

heh, this is very true!! I don't think I've ever heard anyone spin this anywhere else, & people outside of Houston & the scene have never heard this song.

  • Hah! I got to help engineer the remix! Never met the group though...

  • Finally! I've been looking for this song for a very long time. Does anyone remember that club song that had a girl having an orgasm at the end of it? I remember hearing it at DV8, SOME, EMOS, Sharkdance, 6400, Temptations (Galveston). Man this question makes me sound like a freak.

  • Lil Louis - "French Kiss"

  • Lil Louis- French Kiss!!!!

  • It was Poesie Noire- Pity for the self

  • Poise Noir "pity for the self"

  • wondering around half priced books last year i found a double album cd of Poise Noire's Pity w/ an instrumental no lyrics cut, pretty sweet!!

  • Temptation in Galveston was awesome!

  • french kiss

  • @tretrioeciii you're thinking of the song by "lil louis" and the song is called "french kiss".

  • I to went to it all too/it was always GOOD TIMES in Houstone TX- 6400- lizard- you name it... DJed for some years- I have the orginal copy of this song PINK lable "with no print. There was only a small sticker that said "colm lll/you take me high. crazy thing was, there was no re-release for a few years later. I should have sole it for a few hundred then!!! lol

  • good times, i got the blue vinyl somewhere....

  • Yes...definitely one of my favorite songs! I was too young to go clubbing, but I loved jamming to it on the radio (93Q/104KRBE - Houston).

  • Hell YEAH!!!!

    I've been searching for this.

    You know IT!

  • Yeah, if you know this, chances are way too high you are of a certain age, of a certain geographic location, with a certain leaning towards a certain sound we just don't ever hear anymore.

I should have bought this 12" bootleg pressing at Noo-Beat when there was a chance. At least when they offered the UK Vision "Lucifer's Friend" bootleg 12", I bought one of those. :)

I miss record stores that remained open at 1:30a.

  • I have this on blue vinyl that I bought from Record rack here in Houston back in 86. Still in great shape. I also have Peanuts by Telex ( xtended mix ).

  • Oh, Record Shack. How could we ever forget Bruce & his "ITS ZR1"? We'd watch him move in to prey on teen boys who walked in. We always wondered what was up w/ that (before heading there, it mattered not whether the kid was gay or het — either was prey). I'd only go to the Shack after leaving empty-handed @ Noo-Beat (Rick + Malcolm!), Sound Plus (Ron + Jackie!), Sound Exchange (punks w/ ennui!) and so on.

On an upside, I found my Secession "A Dark Enchantment" + Frazier Chorus "Sue" CDs there.

  • Oh boy you knew of Bruce as well ? I had heard that he has been sued soo many times for sexual harassment that it was one of the contributing factors of him closing Record Rack. I met him twice, but I was never alone, thank God. I had bought 2 compilation cds from him that had at least 20 songs of all of the great music from 6400, numbers, ect.. Unfortunately vinyl has seen the end for the most part. Houston really did have the best music scene of that era. I miss it.

  • Yeah, unfortunately. He was a slimy jerk. It certainly harmed his enterprises.

I left Houston in 1993. KRBE, KQQK (yes, really) and KKBQ simulcasts from 1986 were really what awoke me to new music that, to be honest, I wasn't quite ready for. I didn't grasp how songs seamlessly blended. Then I went to see Ian McCulloch at #s and saw dee-jaying in person. I knew then it was what I wanted to do. But being an 18 year-old woman, that wasn't gonna happen in Houston, not then. So I went elsewhere.

  • Yeah Bruce lost the juice (hahaha) and all the victims got loosed. I was fortunate to not be one of them. While I am thinking of it here is a trivia question for ya. What was the name of the mascot for QZOO in the morning. This was very early in the 80's. As far as Dee-jaying I hope you did pursue it. I recently called 106.9 the Point here and made the suggestion that they should do an Friday or Saturday night retro show that plays those old hits. Who knows some day maybe.

  • Wasn't it the Tookie Bird or something along those lines? I remember the absurdity of the name "Cleat Dumpster", as well as then spelling "suite" as "sweet".

As far as modern radio goes, local programming is all but a thing of the past, with minor exception to non-commercial community radio remaining. And yes, I took up DJing in places like Minneapolis, San Francisco, and Toronto. These days, I don't have a lot of time, but when I do spin, it's because I want to — not to get paid.

  • You are correct, great memory !!!. I remember hearing songs like My ding a ling, and crazy stuff like that. Yeah they used to have the stupid Tookie bird sound throughout the show. I wish I could find a good college station that plays the old stuff, But keep on spinin. Hey do you use any of native instruments stuff like Tractor scratch.

  • There was also "Shaving Cream" played periodically by the Q Morning Zoo. It is now in the public domain and can be found at archive daht organization. Read through the phonetics, as it's the only way YouTube will allow the comment posting.

I'm old fashioned for preferring physical media like vinyl and CD, but yes, I've used NI's Traktor. It's not the same, though it is more convenient. What's sobering, though, is meeting DJs now who've never used anything but a laptop to spin.

  • You know I believe that some dee-jays have used never NI. I have actually met and got an autograph my Bad Boy Bill when he played at Lizard Lounge in Dallas. He was cool. I will have to look for the shaving cream things.

  • Shaving cream was by Benny Bell, 1940.

I do know several DJs who have been wise not to succumb to Traktor or Serato scratch or the like, and I applaud them for it! It's the new kids who poo-pooh vinyl and CD spinning as "old fashioned" and saying inane things like "keep it simple, stupid", completely unaware how much simpler it was. Their loss.

  • Yeah I agree with that. Although software has become more the mainstream for the ( bedroom ) dee-jay. I compose on Sonar Producer 7, but I also use the Kaos pad for the fx bin on whatever track I need an crazy effect on. I also use the M-Audio Axiom 25key midi interface for pretty much all of the composing.

  • Also, over time, I've learnt that technique and "tabling skillz" are maybe, at most, 20 percent of makes a DJ worth hearing. The rest depends on how well they know the material and how imaginative they are with bringing unexpected songs together. The other thing hurting "retro" DJs, I find, is they get complacent and are reluctant to explore other music from the period that did well elsewhere. Only then does one get a feel for what the 1980s were really all about on a global scale.

  • you are definitely right on the money with that one.

  • Haha... I remember noo beat. I swear they were always cutting each others hair when we went in there.

"Shut up and cut my hair".. I mean "Shut up and dance"

  • Xcess, lizard lounge and then Therapy. Those were the days of the best dance music in H-Town

  • Club 6400 and The Ocean club in Houston Texas This is the era that ruled the world. We had the best music!!!!!!

  • The Ocean Club was like no other!

  • Superb song! Memories of Houston Texas Club 6400, Club Land, Lizard Lounge, Club AM, and Xcess...who else remembers these places? They were the shit.

  • Awesome !! 6400, Xcess....what about NRG ?!?!? I practically lived there !

  • Hell I do buddy, I went to 6400, DV8,RED SQUARE, INTECITY,CLUB AM AS WELL, AND EFX, SPLASH, STUDIO CIRCUS, LIZARD LOUNGE( BEFORE AND DURING THE DRUG BUST). GREAT TIMES

  • You know, I'd have to look for it, but I think I still have a business card-sized free admission to Power Tools Live. The card is made of a smoky-coloured plastic, as opposed to paper. I remember how cool it looked and held onto it for some strange reason. But it's buried in a box somewhere in my basement and would take a while to dig it up. Should I find it, I'll scan it. and post it somewhere. :)

  • To the average person today no one would know the importance of that. I know exactly that ite, you speak of. Man if you can find it, your a lucky dog and definitely post it. I believe if you put it somewhere strategic on the web where people from our era you would get a shit load of comments. Please find that golden ticket

  • I didn't hear this song until one morning in 1993 in a sweaty warehouse outside San Francisco. Great track; very uplifting!

  • ONE OF THE BEST!

  • Ahhh...the memories!! From "6400" in H-town to "Phase 2" in Beaumont all the way to "Stars" in Vinton, La. Those days ROCKED!!

  • NRG to 6400 to Power Tools. Got water?

  • XFTW.

  • This song kicked ass on the dance floors of the eighties. All the drugs, the women...and this song was a part of the wiggin' experience....

  • ahh yea,, one of the best wiggen songs back in the day.
