would this work if you had the drums coming from a sampling pad such as the roland spd-s and running through the low pass and hooking it up to a voyager?
I'm trying to recreate this effect with my Moog Little Phatty and a ... electrix filter factory ... as I do not have a MF-101. The filter factory has a CV out, which is connected to the CV in on my LP, but I can figure why I hear no modulation. I have a house drum track running through the filter factory, just like the video has, but again, no modulation from the CV connection. Can anyone point me in the right direction?? Many Thanks
Hey MoogMusic! is there a way to do this inside of Reason 4? I can't quite get it to work. I've tried sending the Gate out (closest thing I could find to CV) of the ReDrum device into the filter 1 Freq of the Thor, but to no avail.
Can't say for sure about Reason. The Gate Out though is not the key. The technique in our video works because the EGR CV Out signal is riding the volume contour of the drum track.
Gate signals are just off and on. The great thing about this trick is that it can be used with all type of rhythm tracks for a wide variety of results.
The Control Voltage that the ENV OUT produces basically follows the volume contour of the signal you're processing through the MF-101.
In this example, we're running the "House" drum track throught the MF-101. When the loud kick drum hits, the volume goes high and so does the ENV OUT CV. In between the kick drum hits, the volume drops and so does the CV.
The high-hat pattern adds some fluctuations to the volume that also become a component of the ENV OUT CV.
It's a very responsive, analog method of creating tempo-synced effects. For best results, make sure your rhythm track has some fairly definite peaks and valleys and adjust the signal level for the widest dynamic range.
Since MIDI was not used in the creation of this example, it obviously also works on the Voyager Old School... or even a Model D.
There's a lot of room for experimentation with this technique. Try it on a slower rhythm. It gives you more time to savor the rich modulation. The more resonance on your synth patch, the more apparent the modulation will be. Season to taste.
Suggestions:
Patch ENV OUT CV to the CUTOFF CV in on another MF-101. Use it to process a string synth pad.
Is this technique possible on a moog prodigy with vcf in?

Not all of your products explain themself, so this video is a great help.
More videos like this, please .

perhaps use the audio out into a vocoder as carrier, and then the signal you wanted to effect as the modulator, set to half wet/dry?

@LivingfortheFather did you tell Thor that you're sending Redrum's CV into it using the Bus?

Thanks for making this video. It shows an application for the MF-101 and a reason to add it to our Voyager. More cool videos please!

You can also accomplish this effect with the FreqBox - it too has an envelope out that can drive any CV input.

I'm wearing head phones and listening to this again, it's very nice.

I really have to figure out how the env out works. I've only used the audio out with my cello and bass, but both sound awesome.
