You would presumably have some kind of savings from income generated by your $7M business before the sale, plus $2.3M, I can't think of an entrepreneur worth their salt that doesn't think $2M couldn't get them started in several businesses. Go to college? Puhlease, unless you need to do business studies or something I don't get where this pessimism is coming from. Sure a $2.25M kick in the gut will do that (you had to assume at least 2.5 in taxes from the outset)
But $2M is absolutely wads of cash for a mid sized entrepreneur with a sharp eye. I funded a start up business on the side just 3 months ago for only 50k, it might fail, it might not, we'll see. You have a world of opportunity there. Basically you're ahead of 99.9999999999999999% of the rest of the planet and lets be frank, you didn't have to work that long or hard at it. Take it as a learning experience. I bet next time you sell a business you don't pay a nickel over 40% ;)
That opportunity won't come up again. I was going to reinvest what I earned from this into other business endeavors but it turns out that I didn't earn enough to do that- though the company was worth it. Now about the only option that I have is to go to college and hope to work for some stupid super-corp that Cenk just loves- or WAIT! I could work for the Government! @ParadoxPerspective If you lost 67% of your sale to taxes, it's not the dem's fault it's your own. Learn how to structure a business or restructure a business for sale. The only way you can get anything close to that high is if you had a C corp and paid tax on assets as both a corp and then as the individual, and that only gets you to roughly 50%. Seriously. Congrats on being smart enough to be that successful, but man. Next time around you shouldn't pay half that.

@bhutos I'm close to the worst possible Federal income tax bracket, and there's state income tax, finder's fee and a few other reasons why my equity got knocked down from what would've granted me enough to repair a desalinization plant in Bocca Retton, to about what I have now... which... isn't enough to really invest or live off of for long.
The business was a one time shot, so I guess I'm pretty much forced to go to college and get a job. But that's what lefties say we all need.

I'm in the top tax bracket here (in both my trust distributions heheheh) and run several businesses with over a dozen employee's and would be considered far left. However I'd find it hard pressed to think of how I'd pay significantly more than my marginal tax rate on a sale. I'm assuming the "few other reasons" don't have much to do with the dems and are a major slice?

You would presumably have some kind of savings from income generated by your $7M business before the sale, plus $2.3M, I can't think of an entrepreneur worth their salt that doesn't think $2M couldn't get them started in several businesses. Go to college? Puhlease, unless you need to do business studies or something I don't get where this pessimism is coming from. Sure a $2.25M kick in the gut will do that (you had to assume at least 2.5 in taxes from the outset)

But $2M is absolutely wads of cash for a mid sized entrepreneur with a sharp eye. I funded a start up business on the side just 3 months ago for only 50k, it might fail, it might not, we'll see. You have a world of opportunity there. Basically you're ahead of 99.9999999999999999% of the rest of the planet and lets be frank, you didn't have to work that long or hard at it. Take it as a learning experience. I bet next time you sell a business you don't pay a nickel over 40% ;)

That opportunity won't come up again. I was going to reinvest what I earned from this into other business endeavors but it turns out that I didn't earn enough to do that- though the company was worth it. Now about the only option that I have is to go to college and hope to work for some stupid super-corp that Cenk just loves- or WAIT! I could work for the Government! (everyone should work for the gov. Being your own boss is what those crazy Teapartiers do!)

I'm giving the example that MAYBE mob-ruling "Rich people" has some pretty negative side effects. I don't have enough money to go on and do something else that would be useful now. In stead a pretty huge chunk of what I would've gotten went right into Uncle Sam's wasteful pocket.
Who knows? I might've been able to start up a wind farm or a desensitization plant- but hell no... Since I'm so rich right? (I don't have a job besides this)

@jamstrat I can't tell you how much the company was worth when I sold it, but getting 2.3 million out of that having FOUNDED it and dropped out of highschool in order to operate it is quite a punch in the balls.
I'm not in a personal situation where 2.3 million is any real use to me. I'm probably not even going to be able to take the typical option of college and working for someone since I dropped out?
You can't live indefinitely on 2.3 million and it's not enough to invest. I've been robed
