  • I was surprised that so many people in Africa lives with HIV. A life changing momemnt. Education and support changes lives.

  • i enjoyed this joinred video because it displayed a heavy amount of information in only 31 seconds, and it portrayed HIV victims in a positive and encouraging light by advertising new treatments. i can see how this video has 1.3+million views, as it appeals to so many different audiences.

  • In House of Numbers: Anatomy of an Epidemic, an AIDS film like no other, the HIV/AIDS story is being rewritten. This is the first film to present the uncensored POVs of virtually all the major players; in their own settings, in their own words. It rocks the foundation upon which all conventional wisdom regarding ‘HIV/AIDS’ is based./watch?v=_p-ttLfkZHQ

  • wow

  • This is amazing.

  • Amazing.

  • As the video says, treatment exists to fight HIV. This treatment is called antiretroviral (ARV) therapy. It is not a cure. It does, however, help the body's immune system fight HIV, and therefore has restored the health of many sick people within just a few months. That's what we call the Lazarus Effect.

  • God Bless Us All. we continuously meet up with lifes problems, and we always get back on opur feet. To the dedicated and compassionate poeple involved with the lazarus effect.....on behalf of the world I'd like to say thank you.

  • i got the red ipod !

  • Hmm, I was watching the Magic Awards last night....and all the funding was going to support "Feed The Children"...I think the awareness of Africa is starting to raise.

  • From the (RED) team:

Wow. We are amazed by the number of people who have watched our Lazarus Effect video and would like to make clarifications in light of some questions that have come up. YouTube doesn't let us post comments that are more than 500 characters, so please look at ABOUT THIS VIDEO on the right to read our responses.

    Thank you.

  • Some people are wondering about the name: 'Lazarus effect'. This originally comes from a story in the Christian Bible, where Jesus performed a miracle, and restored a man name Lazarus to life. So the term 'Lazarus effect', as used by JoinRed does seem to be an appropriate use of the term.

  • Wow...

  • WOW, awsome video !

  • i'm wondering what if anything red is doing about aids and hiv in the united states and also if you are saving these near-death aids victims, how good of a life will they have from now on. and finally, if we're keeping aids patients alive, how do we expect this not to spread even more(no, i'm not saying that saving lives is bad, but think about it: the more people with aids staying alive everyday, the more of a chance it will be spread to others)

  • its called "lazarus effect", like u explained, "unexplained revival of a person already pronounced dead. And no explanation as to how they came back from the dead."

so which one sounds better.. "cure for disease" or "Miracle drug?"

  • what long-term effect does this have on its patients? are they magically cured after 60 days? do they have to take these pills for the rest of their life? does the patient's immune system eventually become tolerant of the drugs and then they have no effect? does this combat aids or boost the immune system? and if it does combat aids, how will it keep from causing a mutated hiv strand to form like many other attempts to combat viruses have done?

  • Im having trouble understanding how they are calling it the lazarus effect? The lazarus effect is much more commonly known for the unexplained revival of a person already pronounced dead. And no explanation as to how they came back from the dead.

  • She looks pretty... after the pills of course

  • i wonder why it's called the Lazerous effect. i hope it has nothing to do with the dr who episode (in which dr.lazerous gets transformed to a healthier younger him!)

  • lol that was the only thot that came to mind when i read the title.

  • the world is not perfect.

  • If America can spend trillions causing genocide in Iraq while colonizing their country why can't they afford enough to wipe out aids around the world first?

  • thats pretty simple, because most of it is in Africa, and ain't enough Americans trying to help them.

  • oh this is heart warming :)

  • thats awesome really

  • Good Luck! Everyone should be able to be healthy!

  • very inspiring :)

  • Good Luck and nice job

  • poor ppl i hope they get well

  • yeah for only 15 cents!(dane cook) hahaha.

  • Dane cook is awesome, that was one of the funniest things I have ever heard.

Hope the lazarus effect helps, its a lot of time and effort, but the rewards are endless.

  • awesome i hope those people get better

  • I'm so glad for those people who got that treatment!!!!!!!

  • yeah

  • great vid.....gives hope

  • its a nice step......

  • good luck to those people

  • Very encouraging.

  • that was a great video and it is a good sign of hope..appropriate to call it the Lazarus Effect too :)

  • why was it called lazarus effect. im a little slow.

  • woah

  • Dude! That was AWESOME!!!

  • is nice

  • some one dies every minute no lie

  • that pill must cost alot of money!!!

  • geez... is that for real???

    quite amazing....

  • It's not a cure, it's a treatment.

  • RED is such an amazing campaign :)

  • those pictures were so amazying how the medicine helped them so much. i did not know they could have such a good effect

  • i made a project in school about the same place and the same thing !!

  • very nice and encouraging. i can't imagine what those people go through mentally just knowing they're infected.

  • god bless you

  • why is it called the Lazarus effect?

  • its because they've been given another chance knowing that AIDS is incurable... coz when you have Aids, you're as good as dead...

from the bible Lazarus the brother of Mary was revived by JesusChrist... get it??

  • I guess because it brings them back to life in a certain sense?

  • It's a reference to a Bible story. A guy named Lazarus died, but Jesus resurrected him and brought him back from the dead.

So the name "Lazarus" is often used to imply "miraculous healing". It's also often used in science fiction with the same implied meaning.

Not that I think any particular religious implication is meant by calling this "the Lazarus Effect" in this case.

It's just a neat, short way to sum up "the miracle" of what RED has been able to do with the money it's received. :D

  • son, don't ya read ya bible?

lazurus was the fella Jesus resurrect'd from tha dead afta 4 days being dead in yonder tomb, son. it could be found in the 11th and 12th chapter of the gospel of john.

  • In the Gospel of John, Jesus raises a man named Lazarus from the dead, and in essence that's what these drugs are doing for people with aids.

  • In the Gospel of John, Jesus raises a man named Lazarus from the dead, and in essence that's what these drugs are doing for people with aids.

  • its called that becouse i think in the bible a guy named lazarus was ressurected and i think becouse it seems like a rebirth of themsleves idk just a guess

  • maybe it's named after lazarus who came back to life in the bible?? Maybe it's a metaphor that the people came back from dying???

  • lazarus is the man that christ raised up from the dead

  • In bibical history, Lazarus was a person whom had died, and to everyone's amazment was, moments later, miraculously brought back to life by an outside intermediary...

    ...The Lord Jesus Christ.

  • What should I get for Christmas???

  • a chance to help

  • cure for HIV?

  • Magnificent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • while i am impressed with what project (RED) is doing, I am not with Gap Corp. for their violations against child labor and unsafe machinery it uses in factories around the world.

  • this made me cry. I hope it's true

  • wow thats gr8 i wish i bought a red item 2 help out

  • Pure Excellence!

  • Really interesting. Something to think about.

  • Really interesting and actual. Something to think about.

  • whats the pill? this is weird.

  • that's great

  • 4000 a day = 30000 week approx = 1 500 000 a year

    after 10 years = 15 million

    after 20 years = 30 million

    the problem may die out

  • Very interesting video! Hope this comes to fruitation!

  • Beautiful.

  • im putting this video on my channal featuring the best of you tube tell if you have any ideas for videos.

  • May I ask what this treatment consists of? What 2 pills are they? I've just tried to research the "Lazarus Effect" online, and it seemed to be related to funding for HIV awareness in Africa.

  • wtf...I knew that they had some form of treatment, but i wouldn't of thought that it would of taken them this long for them to get it out to the public...arrrggg...this government system..

  • nice :) but i dont think the person will be cured i think the pills stopps it for a while...but i might be wrong and i hpe am wrong.sry for my baad english..

  • too bad there isn't a cure yet :/

  • i have that phone

  • i didn't understand it because im from germany . can anyboy explain it for me in german?

  • five stars!

  • 5 stars..

  • Are people really this naive to think this is a cure for AIDS? Wouldn't it be global news?

It prolongs their life, and is well worth supporting. A cure, it is obviously not.

  • Nice video :-)

  • Thats soo beautiful

  • !!!!!! Finally!

  • well, i have relatives who are hiv+ and if this is true i dont know what to say...really im impressed and im gonna preach this gospel to everyone i know. thanks very much for this video...

  • OMG AWESOME!! Is this for real??

  • this is absolutely fantastic. Thank God!

  • thank god? eh...lol if it is true then thank those people who is behind this thing not god. =P

  • two questions: one can some tell me how come the public hasn't heard about this b4

second im not trying to critizize but 'join red'? that sounds like a communist orginization

PS these are actually questions im not trying to piss people off hell if there is a pill that cures HIV than all for goin red! lol

  • Sorry to get you all disappointed again, but there is no such thing (currently) as a cure for HIV.

What they ar talking about is strengthening the immune system, so they patient's body can fight of otherwise deadly infections (any bacteria and so on...)

But it still makes hell of a lot of sense to join any help organization, you WILL save lives, because can live with HIV.

  • Yeah I know what you mean. I'm in the Army and when I hear the word "red" I'm thinking about some communist regime. But if there is a cure then that's cool. Later.

  • There's not remotely meant to be any connection between "Red" and Communism in this instance.

I mean, red is a colour. As is blue or green.

Yes, the Communists have adopted this colour to represent themselves, but then, you know, so have the Republican party in America. But no-one suggests the Republicans are "Communists" just because of their party's colour, right?

In fact, "RED" is pretty unique in that it's the complete opposite. It's not actually a "charity" in the traditional sense.

  • Difference is the media CHOOSE very recently for "red" to somehow represent Republicans. They did that because their party, the Democrats, have always been associated with Communists and therefore did not want to legitimize that claim.

  • wow.

this is the first time for me to hear about a treatment like that for aids...amazing.

  • wow thats amazing, the change in the first woman was very attractive 60 days later

  • great job.

  • A pill that cure H.I.V.??? Interesting. I'd luv to read more about it! I'll look it up and hopefully I remember to post some info about it! That's pretty cool though!

  • Unfortunately there is no pill to cure HIV/AIDS. There are anti-retroviral drugs, which prolong life and diminish symptoms. Most people in developing countries don't have access to these drugs because they are expensive. But there is no cure, just treatment.

  • Wow

  • YAY!!!!!!

  • awesome...nice to see people helping!

  • sooooo cool god is in work

  • its amazing that science has proven that nothing in this world can grow faster than mind and technology, i will share this so that more people can learn about it, doing a great job

  • For real? This easily?

I didnt know there is such an effective treatment for AIDS. If it is a credible treatment, I think they should give it away to the world.

but.. no offence, but I'm still a bit suspicious.

  • great!!!

  • really??

  • OK OK I'm really serious about getting the covers on there website, but i don't want to sound mean or anything but what is this pill. look go to there website and they call it "the pills" and nothing else. I'm going to get it ether way i like the shoes, but i would like some info in "the pills" :)

  • umm okay what happens after the 60 days when the drugs are gone

  • it would be very very good! we take almost everything for granted but for the african people every day is a life struggle! they need help!

  • There's a treatment, really? O_O

  • Yes but don't mistake treatment for cure.

  • had no idea!

  • its cool to see the world is not completely corrupt. glad that people are still helping others.

  • they need it more then any 1 else most ppl over there have it u greedy ass

  • u r a good person!

  • I didn't know they had such a pill.

Is this new? Where else has it worked? Hope it's not like that movie the Constant Gardener..More info please about the Pill. Thanks!

  • this is great

  • I hope that picture of Silvia is not of her nursing a child at her breast. If she has AIDS, the disease can be transmitted to the baby through her breast milk.

  • One of the things that anti-retroviral drugs accomplish is the prevention of transmission of HIV from mother to child.

  • umm is this saying they found a cure for it and they are giving it to africa before anyone else -.-

  • Let me ask you this. Is there a "better" and more deserving place you suggest they start first? Since we in the western world blame Africa for all things bad including HIV/AIDS, then why shouldn't they start with the identified are(though unconmfirmed) as the source of the problem? Get rid of your biased way of thinking. People are people reguardless of their geographic location, race, creed, culture or economic stand in life...I wish wisdom kid.Peace.

  • a treatment is not a cure.

  • There is not a cure. Anti-retroviral drugs are a treatment that helps people survive who are HIV-infected. Much like people with other crippling and deadly diseases like diabetes are able to live long and productive lives. Magic Johnson, for example.

  • Treatment, not cure.

  • Yes because Bush is not funding Africa with the same AIDS drugs everyone in the world is recieving. That orginization is trying to allow everyone in Africa to recieve the same AIDS medicine like everyone else.

  • Africa needs it more than anyone else. And when they find the actual cure for AIDS, africa will definitely hold its position in the front of the line. And rightfully so.

  • No. They are not recieving the same AIDS medicine everyone in the world is recieving because Bush said he is not funding AIDS medicine in Africa.

  • iunno it sounds kinda like what magic johnson(who happens to not be in africa) has had for years. tihs isnt a cure its a treatments. there's a difference(cure gets rid of something completely while treatment must be taken constantly and only numbs the effects to a certain point).

  • oh wow I didn't know the treatment has become so simple and effective. I thought people were still taking like 7+ pills a day. I'm going to help. :)

  • What's the pill?

  • yeah :D

  • gosh I feel bad about this, but I hope these people get them help they need.

  • that is good

  • Dats BEAUTIFUL

  • I hope people help out!

  • that cool !!!Help people!!! :)

  • i like that

  • me too
