very bright, crisp, warm sound overdrive... compared to digitech badmonkey , so i have to let go the badmonkey. Decided to keep my flipbox to my board.
These pedals are great. I have this one and the Tube Echo. At first I wasn't sure about this pedal. It was very thin, mid rangey, and too much gain to sound good. USE 12AY7 TUBES!!! It opens the pedal up. The tube is a lower gain tube and actually lets you use ALL of the knob instead of just turning the gain up to 3 or 4tops. It also opens up the contour and makes it more transparent when switching the pedal on. I just took the EHX 12AY7s out of my English Muffin and those reinvented my Guytones
I suggest you get distortion if you wanna play metal such as Metal Master by digitech or Metal Core by Boss. of course you can play with overdrive but personally it's not heavy enough for me. I use Digitech DeathMetal pedal n it's rippin
Guyatone makes an MM-X Metal Monster. Do a search on youtube for "Guyatone MMX Metal Monster thru a 1988 Randall RG100ES" to see it in action. Really nice! Better if you change out the stock Chinese 12ax7 with your favorite though.
I have this pedal and I recommend swapping out the stock tube (Sovtek?) for anything better. FWIW, I put a NOS RCA 12ax7 in it and the pedal sounds soooo much better!!! I got their VT-X tremolo and TD-X delay/echo pedals and they're very smooth, but I'm going to put in Tung Sol reissues later. They should sound really sweet after that.

thats more of distortion, not overdrive. When i think overdrive i think a maxon od808 or fulltone ocd.
