I am sometimes ashamed that we germans also are not that good in learning other languages (because everything is dubbed here). the dutchs, people from scandinavian countries and basically everywhere else in europe apart from france, italy and spain speak MUCH BETTER english or other languages then we do

And yes, the Dutch are great English-speaker, as are many people from Scandinavian countries, but I'm from Australia and unless you were born in another country, it's very unlikely you speak any language other than English here - it's a lot worse than Germany, trust me! (I can pretty much guarantee that none of the girls in Australia's Next Top Model speak another language, for example!)

With such quite big market's share of fashion or any kind of economic industry in Europe or world widw generally - I don't think it is so unnecessary to learn very well english for germans. Germany is not the Scandinavia or Benelux . speak a little in those 3 languanges: english, italian and german, because I from quite small country, that it is necessary to learn as many languanges as possible.
