I worked for Jackson's 88 campaign. Recently, I ran into him while he was in the Ohio State capital waiting to meet Ohio's governor. I walked up to him to say hello and that I worked for his campaign. Believe me when I say this, he barely looked at me and treated me like I was trash. It sort of hurt.

Actually I was making a rather general statment (speaking in a way for people outside NA). I see a very deep problem with racism in the US (much like in Canada with the Natives) whereas you have major racist policies favoring people based on their ethnic ancestry such as; free money for no reason, a spot at a prestigious University taking the spot of someone with better grades but unfortunately that isn't a visible minority.
How can you expect someone to work when they're getting a "free ride"?

That's TRUE...but America is the country that tried to define things in black and white. Not black people. When there was segragation down south, it was a national issue. But who caught the brunt of it? Black. I live in Oakland, California. in certain neighborhoods the white population might be only 10% and often under that. So if I do something about young men and crime, I'm reaching black youngmen. Black folks are disproportionatley poor in this country. Our poverty outstrips our numbers!

This Union gave an outlet for the black community to be heard. The White Forums didn't need to call there show the white this or the White that because it was understood with a doubt that it would only have white scholars debate on current events and politics. This is Similar toward people feeling BET is racist. Anyone Born after 1980 and grew up in the 90's never new MTV to discriminate against anything. Infact the majority of music played on MTV today is full of black artists.....

But it wasnt always like that... There was a time that MTV would not allow black artists or black urban music on their channel. That is why BET was created, to give blacks an outlet to have their music heard. These shows with the word Black in it, did not come from Black Racism. It came from stugguling people who were not given an equal opportunity, so they decided to create opportunities for themselves. I hope my words can give another side thought on this issue.

Obama is amazing because he made me understand why young whites feel the way they do. And I realized, If I was a young white male born after 1980, I would probably share the smae veiws as they do. Young whites born after 1980 see a show called State of the Black Union as races because of its appearence to be only for blacks. This is not the case. Forums such as this one was created because for along time blacks werent even allowed to be apart of most television forums.

When you take a stand for ANYTHING, there always going to be people who hate you. Right or wrong, so Jesse shouldn't care if people call him a racist. If I'm supporting a group that is an underdog, I'm going to be fanatical in my support as well!

i am mixed race black and white and i didnt believe my mum when she said jesse jackson was a racist untill now! if there was a white union, blacks in america would be very angry!!! so why should there be a black union? not so long ago black people had know rights, this is a disgrace to the progress that both white and blacks have made, when trying to enforce equal rights and peace.

how can we point a finger at the whiteman for racial inequalities and then have something called The State of The Black Union? Using racism against racism creates more racism and also alienates non- racist white people who support the cause. I aint falling for any movement just because its black. Im for Obama though.

I'd like to ask how it's racist to have a group that promotes black issues when other intrest groups have the same. Is there no such thing as GLAAD? NOW? And the Jewish ADL, Anti defemation leauge has more power and is more aggressive than any black pressure group I've ever seen. In a country where black people still has particular problems, I feel there is a need for groups to address it. Power in America is a group endeavor! Look at the NRA! We're all Americans, why should gun owners seperate?

Jesse jackson is 1 of the few brothers that hasnt changed he is the president and founder of his own non profit corporation and worked with king . chicago organizations and almost became president. Noone can descredit jesse jackson . people complain about salary but jesse jackson deserves his salary i dont care if its 200,000 anaully . other people make that kind of money and do nothin to give back . at least jesse's helping people.

Jesse jackson stands for the rights of all people not just black . And racism is alive and well there are no black owned fortune 500 companys and the inner city is still the same if not worse so we barely made progress. But 1960's power to the people kind of thing isnt even going on anymore. Jesse jackson is simply standing up for his rights and helping the poor and oppressed he is doing what jesus wanted us to do.
