BODY SHAVING A PERSIAN CAT

I almost fainted when I first saw this video! That cat looks just like mine! I adopted him about a year ago. He had signs of neglect and had to have all but 3 teeth removed. All of my vets said that he was older that what I was told (3 years) and this may be proof! Check him out now. He's the video response "Murphy, the Mouse Hunter"

Im confused, Why do people want their cats shaved? Is it when their hairs really matted or because they think it 'looks good' ?

I wish I could shave my cat,shes a regular domestic ragdoll mix but she gets pretty hot in the summer but she wont let me shave her-VIOLENT-and Im not comfortable with putting her under...Funny thing is she LOVES getting baths.

I agree the only reason to shave a cat is due to neglect from matting or if that cat just has too many hair balls I do not think they like it after very much. But it does show how much long hair cats do look smaller and do have a ton of hair. Persian have an unercoat too

The only reason someone should shave a car is #1 because of neglect and matting and #2 because of Fleas. There are a lot more reasons to shave a dog than there are a cat, I shave my older dog because of the MN summers here, they are very hot.

I'm not sure that this is the reason all the time, but the summer time can be really hot and your cat is more comfortable with a shorter coat.

@OummMohiEldin long hair = knots... you can hairbrush your longhaired cat, but if the hair is really smooth kinda whool (like sheep) gets knots easy, i brush my persian 2 times a day, and he still gets horrible knots (like dreadlocks) and they are really painful for the cat...

wow... that cat's fur looks really dirty and unkept. Persians require a lot of grooming daily... that must be the reason for the shaving... that and outside temps. Either way poor cat. : O

I wish my cat was fat and lazy so I could shave her. I bought some silent cat clippers, but I lost more flesh than the cat lost fur after 2 minutes of attempted 'shaving'...

What kind of clippers are those? They are so quiet. I think the noise scares the animal. Are those specifically cat clippers? I have a huge Maine Coon, and I use to have her groomed, but it's became too expensive. I think she would let me cut her hair, if the clippers were not noisy. If possible, I'd love to know the brand. What a beautiful cat.

You are right, it's not a persian. It's more like a Turkish Van rather, the van pattern on the forhead, it may be a mix of van with another cat. Turkish van are also huge cats, male can go up to 20 pounds. It may not be a maine coon, as there is so M on the forehead.

some folks are breeding them to be healthier, and therefore not have the flat faces. they're usually called "Doll Face" Persians.

I bet he/she feels so much better. Persians have one of the hardest coats to work with. They get knots in their hair a lot. Have to be brushed many times.

Clipper blades come in sizes that will leave the coat a lot longer however a cats skin is paper thin and can slide between the teeth of the clipper which would cut the cats skin inorder to avoid this groomers use a shorter clipper head becasue the shorter the cut the closer the teeth on the clipper.

@ElfDa - No. They don't have to be cut so close. I'm shaving my persian cats every now and then, but the blade I'm using leaves about 30 mm. of fur. You can decide how much you want left by chosing a blade that don't take it all the way to the skin.

after watching this video,, I got the courage to shave my long haired kitty Angel,she is 10 yrs old and her back side gets covered in matts..I can't brush her as often as I like cause she hides in the attic a lot. Me and my husband bought a good pet razor and shaved her..wow she looks great and all her burrs and matts are gone,,she is acting like a kitten..thx for posting !!!
