Interesting system and it looks a lot less labour intensive than the old soil and spade growing system. Can you grow all types of green leafed veg or just salad-type varieties? In the UK, I used to see watercress farms where they had clean flowing water and fields of watercress - wish we could have it here. Good luck with the project!
lets revolutionize the whole world - watch zeitgeist addendum and zeitgeist moving forward we can eliminate poverty - debt -polution and war -bring abundant wealth to everyone and keep the earth clean
Correction, the holes in the vinyl rain gutter that I use are 1 3/4". This is just right to drop in an oasis cube 1" or I have found recently that peat pellet starts work just as good or better.
@organicheirlooms I use a modified Steiner solution that has been used for 30 + years to grow greenhouse tomatoes, lettuce and strawberries. Formula is Ultrasol 3-15-28 plus calcium nitrate. EC is usually between 0.8 and 1.2. I don't worry about pH too much unless it goes over 7.2. Then a few drops of sulfuric acid takes it down.
And why people who want to buy cannabis MUST intercourse with a mafia, thereby putting themselves at risk and are wary of police persecution? Is it not better if they ACQUIRE Cannabis special place by the State. Where are DIRTY MONEY? Why ordinary people can not engaged in this business, plant seeds, watered, grow, harvest, delivered to the state and thereby earn a living CLEAN MONEY.

Sir, I grow food in my greenhouse, not drugs. I am an activist for decriminalization of marijuana because I don't want people jailed for growing weed. However, at this moment in many places growing pot can get one arrested in the US. I do not want to encourage anybody to use, buy, sell or grow cannabis because it puts you inside a game that exploits a lot of people in a lot of ways.
@ducked2003 Yes, Duck. I recently made new gutters and simply used a hole saw and drilled 1 1/2 inch holes in some vinyl rain gutter. I added a 45 at end to keep water from going out the back end. Glued it with silicone caulk. Same setup for pumping the solution was used. The rain gutter costs a fraction of buying special gutters from a hydro supply house and shipping them. Plus vinyl really holds up to the sun. Has been working great.
if I could, I would say that you should keep correct pH and EC values. Then you should monitor temperature of water. Then you can see changes on plant. Plant need three base elements: N, P and K...................
Great job Romaine look crisp...I'm looking for a crisp romaine with heart , that can grow in the spring , summer, fall , mabe winter ? I'm in canada hey... growing hydroponic lettuce is a new for me , I 'm working on adding this to my existing business of veg growing and flowers. Thanks...video comming soon.
Great, congratulate you. I need a such technology. But I need investments. Is anyone intrested to help me in Romania. I have land, I need technology and financing. write to trivale@walla.com to help me.
hi. we found the white vinyl gutters at hd, 2"'x 3" in size and they look perfect.
How do you keep the starters from moving around in the hole as the gutters are a bit deep for the 1" square starters? It looks like you used 2" holes, correct? Thanks!
I'd advice using an UV sterilizing lamp to fight against algae, but it would probably also nullify all the benefits given to You by certain bacteria as well.
The key to success is a good hydroponic nutrient solution. I worked in the fertilizer business for 20 years and created the current formula as a modification of the old Steiner formula. I had some help in tweaking this formula for lettuce or tomatoes and peppers from my old friend, Dr. Pat Hegwood, currently head of hort dept at LSU. The plant food is 3-15-28 Ultrasol used along with Yara uncoated calcium nitrate in a 1:1 volume ratio. I maintain electrical conductivity at about 1.0 mS.
I built the greenhouse using a kit from Hoop House, but I built a short wall and mounted the kit to be a few feet higher so you can comfortably walk in it. I anchored it to the concrete driveway so it was a nice clean floor. I recently made a hydroponic system that is very similar (no greenhouse yet) at our new home in Florida. The channels are made of white vinyl rain gutter. I drilled holes with a hole saw on the same spacing and used the same pump and 55 gallon plastic drum.
Hi lala2254, thanks for sharing this wonderful video to the YouTube community. I absolutely adore your greenhouse! Those plants are simply amazing. The lettuces looked really delicious. I do something similar but I use my Koi pond water, I run the pond water from the pond to the plants and back to the pond. The plants seem to do great on koi poo and the Koi like having the plants remove nutrients from the water. I pay for fish food and everything else just happens. Before the fish pond was built I used compost tea I had to adjust the Ph with the compost tea but my pond water is allways 7.4 my beans, peas, tomatos, greens, and peppers are thriving.
thats a nice greenhouse, but i really think you could be growing so much more food in there if you utilized the space to its max, you should try some vertical growing techniques, and you can hang plants all along from the roof to get even more

I moved about a year ago and left my beautiful greenhouse behind. However, I am in the process of building a new NFT hydroponic system similar to this one. These old white gutters with the holes broke during the move. They were expensive and didn't hold up to the sun. Therefore, I have just drilled some holes in some VINYL rain gutters that I got at HD for only about $10 each. Initially I started the hydro system with only a shadecloth. More to follow soon. Key is the 3-15-28 formula
Thanks for showing us how its done! I modeled my table design after yours with the babys on the first row and the larger plants on the next rows. I also used a seprate water tank for the seedling loop to allow for lower nute levels and possible cloning hormones.
My 9 yr old was so inspired by this, he built his own greenhouse (wood bottom frame, hoop top frame). However, now we have to figure out what exactly to buy for the hydroponics part. I know the Rio Pump 2100 - I checked ebay. And we're buying 2" pvc, but is there anyway you can post the other materials and how to set up??? Thanks so much!
