If I remember correctly, there was an episode where he almost got married and the girl died. Hoss was my guy and even knowing it was a TV show, I still felt depressed. :) I have a cousin that is Dan Blocker big and he's the gentlest man I know. I have larger hands for a woman but when I shake his hand, mine disappears! lol Couldn't ask for a better example of a man either.
que grande hoss !!!!!!!!!!!!! aun dsps. d tantos años no me pierdo un capitulo de bonanza , aunque aveces los repiten . que actores aquellos !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! roberto d argentina.
Dan was also a teacher my mom had him for a teacher for a bit and she said he was a little intimidating because of his size but made learning fun and non of the kids ever gave him any trouble...RIP Dan/Hoss you were a big sweetheart of a man
Very beautifully done.Dan Blocker was one of the finest men ever to walk this earth.Save a place in the western part of heaven for me near you(and Michael and Lorne too)
I would wish to have met Dan Blocker, see him in this video must be enough for me. He built a wonderfull character and unique, I guess He was a great person too. Thank you Hoss!
@actylen Sorry about you're father. Don't worry about your english. I had no trouble understanding you and it's sure better than my german! :) It's one thing I like about YouTube. Getting to hear from people all over the world. Songs
gone but never forgotten, hoss was a great character, he left this world much too early and the ponderosa was never the same without him,as a kid in england i loved this western and hoss was my favourite character, but at the same time the whole cast was perfect,,god bless thm all,,,they left us some wonderful shows to treasure for ever,,
@Songsmirth hi there songsmirth, l dont think they do now, but as im 54 this great show like many others at that wonderful time in the 60s, l never missed, loved all the cowboy shows from the states, especially bonanza,,it was so well made, its surely a classic,,l still watch the old westerns when they pop up on the telly, dan was a true gentle giant, the ponderosa really made an impression on me,,,they seemed like the perfect family on the perfect homely ranch,,take care now,,
@robharding1957 Thanks for the info. I thought the same thing about them but did wonder how they could all look so clean. I live in Montana and I'd bet the true cowboys got a hoot out of the way those "ranchers" lived. I don't remember an episode that Little Joe didn't look clean. One I saw recently he looks like everything he had on was ironed and new and here he was chopping wood. You do NOT wear good clothes chopping wood, let me tell you. lolol You too take care. :) Songs
I´m spanish, and i don´t speak a correct english, but in my bad english, I´d like to say about Dan Blocker, he was a good man and a beautiful person. And forever he´ll be Hoss in my heart. I miss you a lot dear Dan and dear Hoss. Greetings for you in the heaven.
dan blocker without him on bonanza it just would not have been the same, he really was the star of the show, sure miss him he was a great actor and i am sure a great man in real life, he died way to early but we have him in our memories and all the shows he was in
Have any of you ever seen the RCA LP of Dan Blocker and Robert Mitchum's brother called "America: Our Land Our Heritage"? Will you look at that sky at 2:13-2:23?!!!!!!
The fact that they were both proud of this album makes me feel that much more fortunate to own a near mint copy of it! I have it protected within a plastic sleeve, and have played it only one time.
Oh wow lovewesterns that was beautiful. I love that you put a pretty song with it. So many videos made of Hoss are coupled with guffy songs not that those aren't a treasure and funny to watch cause they are. It just nice to have a more serious song to honor him cause he was more then just a funny guy.
YOU ARE SO CORRECT, Dan was FUNNY. I remember when Joe Cartwright (Michael Landon) talked about Dan on the Johnny Carson Show and he stated, "Dan was incredible, he actually broke his collar bone on the set and said, pull hard on my arm, they did and they continued to tape."
This was really nicely put together,Hoss was a beautiful character although Little Joe will always be my most favourite.Hoss was a major character and was truely missed when he passed away the show actually fell apart not long after Dan's death.

My father- John Mitchum wrote the spoken text for Dan and he sang the songs. It was released back in 1964. They were both very proud of that album.
