It's a pity I can't find this music on iTunes. Haven't had a chance to look at the website properly yet...but I'm guessing postage is going to cost a bit to find me in Australia :(
Great song. I used to sing it in Las Vegas a lot. It is a real crowd pleaser. I remember enjoying it when I was a kid in the 1940s. Great video and performance.
why does he make it sound so complicated(the writer of the song I mean(...the only thing he needs to say to make him his own grandpa is that he married a widow and his father married the daughter of that widow that in itself makes him his own grandpa. because his father married the daughter of the mother so that makes him a dad in law to his own father and because of that it makes him his own grandfather (woke up with this wonderful insght the other day! :) )
@Topgeneral3070 how can you write a complicated answer about the explanation to say it's NOT complicated, then call it a simple explanation!? LOL If you really wanted to say it's simple, then you could have left it at my Dad married my daughter-in-law, we both had kids, and everything went downhill from there! LOL
It's strange, but perfectly possible. Say you marry a widow who already had a daughter, and that daughter marries your dad. If you start feeling headaches thinking about it, please rest for a couple hours :)
Great! But to be pedantic, Dennis here is his own grandfather, but is *not* his own father, whereas e^x is both its own single and double derivatives. So, a closer analogy is e^-x.
Yea, its pretty confusing the way its sung. However it just comes down to the fact that his dad married his step daughter. It happens all the time. ;)
I love this song! And now that I've heard it sung slower I get it. I grew up hearing a faster version and never understood how it all worked but sang it anyway, thanks for making it clear.
I really like the way you sing this song. There are several you tube videos of this song and most of them are too fast. They sound like a Gilbert and Sullivan patter song, but you kept it very melodic.
for now i have becum the strangest case ive ever saw, as husband to my grandmother i am my own grandpa .....im my own granpa, im my own grandpa it may sound funny i know but it really is so oh im my own granpa......
many many years ago when i was 23, i was married to a widow who was pretty as can be, this widow had a grown up daughter who had hair of red, my father fell in love with her and soon them two were wed, im my own grandpa, im my own grandpa it may sound funny i know but it really is so, im my own grandpa.
It has nothing to do with biology, it is genealogy.
This mess happens only when you have incestuous relationships. It is more common to find these cases with the involvement with step-families, like marrying your step-sister, step-daughter, step-daughter-in laws... etc...
almost everything has to do with biology, genealogy has to do with bio b/c its the study of life. humans are alive so it has to do with bio. teachers teach bio b/c its a general study of things and they are qualified to do so.
CommanderDixon, now rereading what you posted, I think you confused the terms "genealogy" with "genetics", or you don't really know the meaning of genealogy.
