  • Beautiful. Poignant. Riveting. You know, it was amazing to hear the sad note J.K. wrote 1 friend before On The Road was pubbed. Remember? He said he was "30 yrs old with 10 novels since '51 that no publisher wanted. Not a cent in my pocket. Can't even afford a decent whore." Then he questioned whether or not he had any talent : JACK KEROUAC. That's the publishing industry for you : they scramble to publish Twilight-type material while On The Road was kicked to the side. Just kidding (sort of).

  • @808Lana That's a good comment.

  • This is a must-see documentary for all Beat fans!!

  • This booked opened my eyes more than any drug ever could...and trust me ive tried ;)

  • He didn't met Neal on one of his trips. He met him at Columbia University.

  • this guy changed my life

  • Thank you my friend, best wishes from Ireland

  • @bangbangdivine Best wishes to you too, bangbangdivine.

  • I read satori in paris when I was 15 and I've just finished On The Road as of Yesterday, I'm 18 now and extremely amazed by the 'Beat Generation' as it's known a fan of Ginsberg and many others, it's inspired me to write freeform poetry, this is an amazing documentary thanks a lot, it fills in gaps the literature never touches x

  • @JazSmithPresentation It's comments like yours, JazSmithPresentation, that make me happy I uploaded it.

  • @ObjectiveSpeculator No worries, It's nice to receive a response to a comment that's not negative for the sake of being negative, thanks for uploading

  • @JazSmithPresentation I did that the other way around read On the road after I turned 16 and Satori in paris at 17. Ginsberg inspired me to write Prose poetry. Greatest generation of authors in a good long while.

  • thank you, really enjoyed this (: the music, kerouac's history with the relevant interviewees... it was good. the narrator reading kerouac's stories could've done a better job though i thought.

do you know by any chance if there's a longer, complete version of the interview he had with steve allen in the beginning and the end? there's something startling and subtly outstanding to the way he carries himself when talking and reading! (:

  • @fireflowerfairy Sorry, fireflowerfairy, but I don't know if there is a complete version of the interview ou there. Going to have a search though. Your thinking of that has got me wanting to see it, too.

  • Just now getting into Kerouac. This is a great place to start, to help better understand his work.

  • a very important man, it sounds a cliche but this book did change my life. I'm having a rough time at the minute but started reading On The Road again tonight, brightened things up. Dean and Sal are the two guys you'd really want to be pals with. Thanks for posting.

  • @danyelstantonwinning If you're having a rough time at the moment, danyelstantonwinning, don't worry, it's only a moment. You'll get by, my friend.

  • Maggie Cassidy is a most gentle story ... but certainly not On the Road.

It's just good to read Maggie because it offers you a moment to look back on your own youth ... and it seems to reignite that golden feeling one may feel when viewing such a simple thing as wet oak or maple leaves during a sun-storm in September.

  • Wow!!

    Carolyn Cassady and Herbert Huncke!!

Great to see them both interviewed.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • The original title of this documentary is "Kerouac, the Movie", it's from 1985.

I found it via it's director on IMDb

Thanks to ObjectiveSpeculator for uploading the movie here and giving me an idea how to find information about it :-)

  • @MsRoaringTwenties Thanks for finding that info out, MsRoaring Twenties. I have corrected the title of the YouTube upload. If you hadn't picked up on that, the mistake could have beat on forever.

  • I can't thank you enough for this upload! It's not available where I live.
