  • Simply beautiful. :)

  • Awwwwwww I melt to this song. It reminds me sooo much of my babii and she has the most beautiful voice. <3

  • Love this song so much <3 xxxxx

  • Divine...

  • I Love your FACE and I Love your VOICE! so sexy even in a high tune...

  • Roberta Flack was the first to really do justice to this song as it was sung in a different way before her version, all these modern versions now clone her exactly .

I have to award Roberta the top version, even after all this time !!

  • i was sayin'... just "listen...." to her... not with your ears... with something inside you.. and if it doesn't touch you... where you love, or where something hurt you, you are not human... whether it will bring you to tears, like it does me.. it may not... but it has to "touch" you... in some way... it is just that beautiful. And to have exchanged "glances"..... looks... like she metaphors about... OMG.... it's cutting me in two.... listening even now... OMG I loved him.... and he.. me... :(

  • this thing wudn't let me do but 2-thumbs up... but i promis u.... i have heard this song from Roberta Flack, Lauren Hill, the works.. but Leona's enunciations... of her words, her vocal stance.. is so remarkable I cried.... the first time i heard it... i wept for days... it reminded me of someone I loved that got killed and how 'taken' i was... with the first time I saw (saw) him and how empty... lost... i feel since I cannot see his face... ow wow! this song touches so much in a person.. listen

  • look leona could sing YANKEE DODDLE DANDY and it would be great,

but matt cardle was also BRILLIANT AT THIS SONG

  • As good as this song is, I still think Mat Cardle of XFactors was better. :)

  • I nice version but for me the Johnny cash version is the very best -sounds better by a man.

  • The first time I ever heard this song, Celine Dion sang it...

  • Actually Ewan wrote this to his mistress. He was married at the time.

  • To know that a man wrote this for his wife.. It's absolutely beautiful. I haven't cried like this in a very long time. Funny how music does that to you, yeah?

  • Awesome nothing else to say

  • George Michael - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

  • Excellent version! but best in my opinion is George Michael version

  • great version!

  • You are the heart of my heart...my soul's true companion Christine. Your name still sounds like the most melodious song I've ever heard...your voice, the voice of love...my love...come back to me...I will promise to be good, to love, honor, trust and obey you. I will wear a ring that says I am yours and no other's. I am, yours.

    M

  • Damn, LL is gorgeous. And she brings such a sweetness to this, one of my favorite songs. Ms. Flack still owns it, though.

  • beautiful voice beautiful lyrics beautiful music a classic

  • Roberta Flack's version will always be the ultimate best but this is a great one. Leona can really sing.

  • oh my heart is so tiuched by this........

  • Great cover, lovely voice. Like most versions of this song Celine, Roberta Leona all sound great.

Check out the amazing Sarah Billington singing this, huge potential for 15.

  • The sad thing is that most of her fans probably won't have heard of Roberta Flack. RB's version of this song - the version from the "First Take" album which I haven't been able to find on here - is by far the best

  • For me slightly to slow. Not bad, but I prefer PPM's version

  • Roberta Flack's will always be the best, but this is a pretty renditiion, she's a beauty.

  • Your right! Roberta's version is better. However, for those of you who think Leona is not good looking, Shit!, tell me you wouldn't DO her in a second. Yes, you too girls.

  • LOL

  • shes kinda weird looking

  • lmao haha

  • this version will be my wedding song, i love Leona!!!

  • She can blow

  • Bless Those who have a love like this:-)

  • thought shergar was missing

  • I just opened up this song on here and before she even started singing.. the hair on my arms rose and I got goosebumps... awesome....

  • beautiful song, beautiful voice and beautiful girl

  • Flack's version is way better.

  • Beautiful song.

  • well I don't know who wrote this song all I know is when I first heard it roberta flack was singing it on the radio I called my boyfriend and told him to listen to it. we were very much in love and this song became our song:) 36 years later it is still our song. we had the best marriage anyone could ask for. he is in heaven now, but every time I hear it it make my heart go pitty pat. thanks for posting this.... you made my day. joanna1943:):)

  • xxx thats so beautiful, you made me cry becasue, its just such a lovely song to share xxxx bless youx

    peace

  • @Joanna1943 "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is a 1957 folk song written by political singer/songwriter Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger, Originally

  • i have goose bumps all over.............

  • Christine saw me cross the street and fell for me at a glance. She felt her heart stir in that moment like it had never before or since. Fool that I was I didn't know what she felt but I wished it were true. I let her slip through my grasp, through time, over the span of more than twenty years, through space, seperated by a thousand miles. I was too insecure and scared to believe I could possess her love without losing it to another, never understanding until now, that love was mine to give.

  • Isn't this an incredible song? Can you imagine being 14 years old and writing this for the lead singer in your band....only to not fall for him.

This was the testimonial of Dr. Lance "Sandy" Sandberg, PhD. While in dire financial straights, MCA bought the song from him claiming all

songwriting credits and royalties. Sadly Dr. Sandberg, has always heard is song attributed by others, and has never seen a dime from it popularity. Dr. Sandberg teaches at St. Phillips in San Antonio, Texas.

  • It would be interesting if Sandberg presented the proof himself - as an academic I'm sure he is able - to refute the claim of the Scots songwriter, Ewan MacColl, to this piece (published in 1957). MacColl never having failed to attribute authorship where possible to any songs he collected; never previously or since that piece, laying false claim to a song or being proven to be a plagiarist; or, as a communist of acclaimed political integrity, never attempting to profit from another's labour.

  • Ewan MacColl wasn't actually Scottish - his parents were. He was born in the "Dirty Old Town" of Salford as Jimmie Miller. He changed his name in the 1940s, but whether that was related to his alleged desertion from the army, I do not know.

  • Ho hum. As I mentioned elsewhere regarding this issue - yes - his parents were SCOTTISH - where I come from that makes HIM Scottish (were children to Scots service families born in India, INDIAN?) - JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE BORN IN A STABLE DOESN'T MAKE YOU A HORSE! You conveniently omit to mention his work regarding the Scots language - which he regarded as his native tongue.

  • And just because you weren't born in a psychiatric hospital, doesn't mean that you are a well-balanced personality. Please go and rant at someone who might take you seriously.

  • I'm going to reply to all your posts cause you're so way off. Ewan MacColl wrote this song.

  • Wait.... Roberta Flack didn't write this ?

  • No, she didn't, Ewan MacColl wrote this song for his wife, Roberta Flack's version of it is what made the song more popular.

  • OMG.......... I've been FLACKED!

  • One of me favorite songs....just beautiful!

  • beautiful.....great song! i love her so much.

  • nice. leona has a beautiful spirit.

  • i have goose bumps all over,

her voice cuts through me like a welcome cool breeze!
