To be honest I´m a little bit jealous that you had that great experience!!!! It´s an amazing footage, the sound, the nice sharp pictures!!! Thanks a lot for sharing! I LOVE huge planes! And this one is a beast!!!
It can indeed mate, Manc chester is a fully fledged international airport with standard legnth runways, which the antanov can take off and land on with no problem as they were incorporated into design considerations.
God has given man such an amazing mind to invent things like this.. How they can manage to get something so LARGE into the air like that is simply amazing
This is the only time the Antonov 225 has ever been to Manchester Airport. There has been know indication of the aircraft making a return any time soon.
How many of these were built and how many are still in service? Awesome airplane. I thought the Lockheed C5 Galaxy was pretty awesome but this thing is in a league all to itself. Hell, it probably has its own timezone. Half of its weight at takeoff is probably fuel.
This is the only one in the world. A second one is currently under construction, but whether or not it will be completed is a different story. On a full load it can way up to 600tons as far as I know. its Length is 275ft and wingspan 290ft. Truely the worlds largest aircraft
I would love to see one of these for real. When did this happen? I used to go to Manchester Airport regularly to watch the planes, but I never saw one of these.
your right Walshy, it was taking stage equipment to Africa, i am lead to beleive it was the stage gear of Beyonce and another top U.S male music artist either Nelly or Jay-z after their gig at the M.E.N. As for the strange route it was because it was the only safe taxi way, any other and it would have clipped other jets.great vid.
She was just getting ready, some times when shes got a full load, they hold on the brakes for quite some time and basically make sure the engines are handeling the power up safely, because if something goes wrong on the take off run with this, its going to overshoot, the V1 would literally be last minute with her on this runway. It completely dried a quarter of 24L when this happened.
can someone please tell me how to get to that spotting hill!, i tried to get to it the other day and i followed the country roads and my map but we seemed to be going further away from the airport!, is it only staff who get acessed that view or can people go in?
There is a fabulous 'Aviation Viewing Park' on the north side of the runways. It's signposted from the Hyde Junction (not sure which number) of the M56. It costs £3 for each car (& driver) plus £1 for every extra person aged 4 and over in the car. There are food and drink facilities, toilets, a model shop and Concorde G-BOAC is on permanent display. Have a look on GoogleEarth.
There is a pub called The Airport i think, its Ok but not that good. The Aviation Viewing Park is really good. But I shot this on a public park type of thing on the opposite side of the airport by 23L
i was there 1 day before it tookoff i was going on my holidays to Finland skiing and it was parked on the western apron and just the sheer size of the thing blows you away. there were police and loads of vircles surrounding it :)
Ye it was crazy, but isnt a suprise really, she was full. Still cant get used to the new runway headings, its so strange they've changed to 05L 23R, 05R 23L
One of engineerings greatest achievements. absolutely AWESOME, just how do they actually get off the ground is beyond belief. as the guy on here says "bloody hell" my words exactly.
I know, the weather is terrible more often than not. I dont actually live in Manchester but like anyone into aviation that does not live that far away, I had to make the trip to see this aircraft.
Taxi route could be due to taxiway restrictions. Why does it still have shuttle humpbacks? Does it still carry cargo on its back? What was it doing in Manchester?
People with too much money like snoop dogg, beyonce, and Jay-Z who used this out of Manchester to transport there stage over to lagos. Also companies that produce huge turbines that need them transporting quick etc.

There has only ever been 1 in service, as you say the 2nd is only partially built and is in storage at Kiev. Therefore it couldn't have been the 2nd at LPL as Walshy3000 pointed out.
As far as I'm aware the An-225 has never visited LPL due to runway restrictions, but the An-124 has quite a number of times.
I was behind one of these landing at Liverpool Airport some years ago. Needless to say I had to leave a fair bit of time for vortex seperation. I then had to wait on the runway for it to taxi past as it's not the speediest of aircraft on the ground. A great sight though.

The wierd taxi route is probabbly due to weight limits on specific taxiways and the large turing radius of the plane.

If your interested in seeing the AN225, take a trip to PIK in Scotland where it flies in weekly, aswell as the Dreamlifter

Other planes have to wait 5 minutes before they may take off at thesame track, because of the turbulence the Antonov produced!
