  • I have to say that this is poorly executed, though you have potential. There were almost constant pitch problems (probably due to the fact that you're trying to sound 30 years older than you are) and the melismas were quite messy. Keep working! I'm not being mean! You picked a difficult piece, but with some more work it could be quite good =)

  • o_0 damn

  • great job. I have to play this piece for the tuba.

  • @MrSalkfish me to!!! im doing it for a solo festivle in davenport iowa sometime soon here

  • Well done sir - really hope your singing career takes off, you have great potential

  • YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Learn to sing.

  • @iSuckAtHockey19 Maybe he can't sing but u suck at hockey ! (he can sing very well)

  • Great voice, great future, nice low g's, but I would add something else to work on: separating words correctly, without carrying final consonants over onto words beginning with vowels (liaison): one example (rather, two): "though I could tend thee atta blow." This is a real problem for classical singers doing English pieces, producing such humorous new words as "for the God dome nippo tent" and "foreve rend ever" (or "endeavor"). In English and German, this is crucial for classical singers.

  • I think your voice has great potential, and has some strength, but there are a few things to work on:

1.) Breath support. This will help you the most for technique, and will make those coloratura passages (which you are slowing down on quite a bit) much easier

2.) Jaw and tongue: you are doing some very funky things there sir. Avoid moving your jaw around and stick your chin out towards high notes. You will do real damage otherwise

  • Great pipes. Good potential. You work too hard. If you keep that up, you will have no voice at all, in a short time. Stop singing, until you find a voice teacher. If you simply learn not to do what you don't need to do, what's left will be very, very good.

  • amazing voice

  • You have an amazing voice, but I really disagree with a lot of your techniques for this particular song. I don't claim to be a music critic by any means, but I performed this song at state music today, so I've heard a bit of critique. A good coach is all you need and then you'll be awesome. Of course, I see that this is over two years old now so I imagine you've fixed a lot of things since this video.

  • it sounds very note to note. not much of a line.Just a critique. Good voice technique needs work

  • great voice!

  • Jonathan made honor to Handel !

    Great !

  • I do think you have a good voice, but you really need to stop using this technique. It sounds Knödel...

  • learn to sing firstly

  • How could i learn to sing if I don't sing?

  • u obviously dont know anything about singing.

  • Good job my friend! Check out my videos!!!

  • im playing this on trumpet for my solo music performance. It's good to see someone eles perform it.

  • Wonderful....I personally think that your accompaniment should be something with a little more sound, to match the figurative size of your voice. A string quintet or something similar would, I personally think, suit your voice better. Otherwise, absolutely excellent. Five stars.

  • Try and place the lower jaw further back when the mouth opens to sing. The position should sort of lock into place, like when you yawn. And also raise your cheekbones: that sinus area is where the sound must resonate. The position of the face will not hurt your ability to express yourself visually - if you watch Sutherland, she can look like she's about to cry even with her cheekbones basically at her eyes. Good job with what you've done!

  • You're...wrong. Sound resonates in the throat. Any sympathetic vibrations that occur in the nasal cavity (aka the sinus area) are minimal and do not contribute to the sound. That is why you can sing with a sinus infection, or be completely stuffed up, and sound virtually the same. All he needs to do is raise his soft palate.

  • that explains why most of this sounds trapped in the throat. Pay attention to the pitch - it is under a good portion of the time -- mostly due to the lack of breath keeping the sound forward. It's actually pretty scary at times -- the b section for instance. The focus needs to be on getting the resonance to occur in the sinus cavity -- not in the throat. When your theory works and he has a career with the Met, let me know.

  • your phrasing and diction need alot of work in this and you really need to keep in time with your accompanist at the rit in the middle section.

  • its been a few months since ive heard this. But the year is now over so i have stopped playin the trumpet but i got a perfict score on this song, and you know what i did try out for state and got 2nd chair! Well good luck with the rest of your career!

  • You have a pleasant voice..! Keep up with the training! :-)

  • you need to separate the notes more within the melismas and all 16ths (place short h's in front of them) good tone though!!!

  • hey i played this one tuba and i'd like to sing it

  • Hi i am playing the tuba solo version of this and at what speed did you take this?????

  • Hey, I don't actually know. I recorded this before I knew how to read music. All I know that it was way too fast. I would do it much slower if I were to do it over again.

    Good Luck!

  • thanks i think i have lot of work cut out for myself. Also i think that you have a amazing voice and that you could be really really successful.

  • Thanks man, what are you playing Honour and Arms for?

  • i'm playing it for a solo contest. i'm going to be competing with other people around the state. And guess what, i'm first chair in my district at age 14! some people say im a natural. im going to try out for the state band but i dont think im going to make it since im so young and everyone else is like in there 30s, but oh well it will be fun

  • ya i've now learned how to play this song on my trumpert and my contest is in 2 weeks! wish me luck, and you were singing this at about Quater note = 100

  • You should listen to Peter Dawson's famous recording, faster than this, with marvelous brio and perfectly accurate divisions!

    You have a nice voice.

  • I played this for euphonium(baritone) and we took it about the same speed, and that is roughly quarter note at 92-96ish

  • crazy awesome voice...I don't know how old you are, but you look young and have a very mature voice. Make sure not to move your jaw so much you seem to hold a lot of tension, during the runs your jaw shouln't move at all. Work on that and it will make your life WAY easier, I'm still new at Classical Voice but I'm getting my Bach. of Music and I'm really jealous of your natural talent! How long have you been studying?

  • actually I'm just beginning to study now. At the time i recorded this, I had had half a year of choir.... I'm hoping to put together some new ones in March.I hope you'll check them out!

  • wow. only half a year of choir and that's how you sound! You were running on a lot of talent than hard work then! how jealous! :) Voice isn't that easily trained to such a level like yours from scratch. Kudos to you! I just started on voice lessons one month ago and my voice teacher wants me to sing this piece for a student's concert coming next month. *sheesh* great voice once again! :)

  • Same here for the trumpet thing, the singing matches the trumpet notes literally. Great for practicing.

  • Barvo! Good Jobs! Just relax and express yourself!

  • Good job that was great. Im learning this song on my trumpet for a solo contest in a few months. great song!

  • bravo dude, i played this as a trombone solo a couple years ago, tough stuff

  • yea you mustve just sucked at it, your probably like 14 and have no chin.

  • Definitely not 14....

  • yes i really am 14, im in 8th grade. To bad im not doing band after this year... Its really fun and all but im doing to many things in high school. Good luck in your singing career! Have fun and stck with music!

  • Good grief.

There's something unnatural-feeling about these recordings...I see and hear you make mistakes but the tone is still pleasant. Have you edited the audio at all?

In any case, lovely nut-brown bass sound, at your age it's really stunning. And you're a handsome dude, too. Man. You suck.

    Good job.

  • Nope, the audio hasn't been messed with at all. It's me! Mistakes and all. Of course, this was a year ago now, so a lot has changed and a lot of mistakes have been cleared up. And thanks for the comment!

  • that was great! i hope i can play it on my trumpet for my solo as well as you sang it!

  • Great Bass Voice.

  • Sounds good, but make sure to actually sing through all notes, particularly dotted rhythms, to their full value as opposed to dropping off the breath. Also, try to work runs out on breath impulse, rather than attempting to articulate with your jaw. This will just tire you out and makes singing baroque rep at length a tremendous challenge. Keep singing! You have a great natural sound.

  • You got a great voice, keep it up!

  • Very talented singer. You sound a bite like Ildebrando D'arcangelo. I think you must work on your breathing control and try to sing a little more bright. Even basses must sing with all the harmonics of the voice.

    Great work!

  • dude pretty good. i played this for a solo-ensemble contest and got a lst division. ive never heard my part sung but it sounds pretty good. i did great but you sound awesome. keep it up man.

  • Pretty Good! When you're singing try to sing a little more forward in your "mask" Also, watch where your breathing in phrases, there was a couple spots where your breath fell at an odd moment. On the melismas make sure that each one is clear and not muddled. Best of luck as you continue to improve!

  • You are dripping with talent, my friend. You have an amazing jaw and your lower register is thrilling (what little I've heard thus far). After one video, I'm a fan and a subscriber. You have work to do, but don't we all? Please don't stop singing!

  • despite many other comments i thought it was nicly done. yes, alittle much singing from the throat, but for 18 (?) very nice potentiol. so just stop dissing this. if you can sing this better post it and prove it.

  • suggestions...dont shove, get your tongue out of ur throat, stop trying to sound 50, start with a ezier song

  • I played this song on my clarinet but I was horrible at least I tried

  • You have much work to do, BUT I hear great potential in your voice. When "you" get out of the way, your sound is quite pleasing. Keep working with your teacher and also develop your musicianship by developing your ear and getting a true sense of Baroque singing style. I really hope you continue studying. Your sound is warm and sweet, with nice natural low notes. It could become something special, though much work lies ahead. Don't be discouraged.

  • Thank you for the comment. Though I'm puzzled by the "you". Also, I haven't had and don't have a teacher, so i'm on the lookout for one!

  • I'm pretty sure that what he means is that he would like you to sing more naturally. He wants you to release your jaw, to breathe more fully, to relax your tongue...

Your timbre is really nice and pleasing to listen to. I would definitely find a teacher who can free up your sound and educate you in general... You have really great potential, I think.

  • dude im better than you at this song. you sloshed over every long phrase, and i can hardly understand you. Weres the expression

  • Well then please post yours so I can hear.

  • i cant unfortunatly i dont have a sudio to record and film my songs

  • 0:07 High breathing... Chest should be raised from the beginning. Too much jaw movement... really... too much jaw tension... 0:35 do not displace the larynx on your higher notes... it's obvious to the audience that you're physically reaching for the note. BTW it's in English... sing it like it's in English... Your handsome... that's about all you have going for you...

    Have a nice day!

  • Some things for you to remember: You're 18; these bass arias are for when you're a little older. As an Opera major I've had to work on breathing from the beginning. Remember that when you're breathing, you're expanding everything but the chest...only then will be facilitate those melismas. Do NOT sing from your throat. This aria should be light and your melismas flexible without intrusive H's. Keep experimenting with your voice and find comfortable placement; it shouldn't sound labor intensive.

  • Im 17 and i can sing it better

  • Im playing it for solo & ensemmble contest on alto sax

  • me on tuba cool.

  • me on tuba cool.

  • im gona play this at a contest tomaro

  • i played honor and arms in solo contest tuba

  • Agreed. Once you get the coloratura up to speed (and with articulation so we can really hear a solid pitch) and work a little on your diction, it will sound great. Watch out for diphthongs, you tend to go to the second vowel way fast.

  • You have lots of talent, you just need a good coach/accompanist who can help you polish things up!

  • not that much talent, he needs to learn to classical before he records it
