I don't think the cosmos is 'brimming over' with life and intelligence.
I think worlds with life are very rare islands, and by far most of those only have microbial life. Bacteria mostly. (Like earth had for most of it's existence.)
Then amongst those rare worlds a few have more complex life. And only a tiny few of those will have intelligent life. And only a few of those will build a civilization and only a few of those don't destroy themselves the way well... WE are well on our way now.
I think in fact that even if humans WHERE to start going to other stars (Something I personally believe humanity will fail to achieve (And which may also just not be achievable even if I was more optimistic about humanity) But even if humans DID start to explore this galaxy, they will probably never run into advanced technology using aliens. Maybe some animal life and probably a few microbe worlds. But the next civilization is probably VERY far away indeed. Maybe in another galaxy
As for what aliens would be like... I'm thinking probably disappointingly mundane actually. In nature form follows function. Evolutionary pressure demands a lifeform must be efficient at SOMETHING that allows it to reproduce and be succesful. And that means shapes are limited to shapes that are good for something. Be it hunting, running, attracting mates, tool use etc.
Nature also shaves off whatever parts aren't needed out of cost efficiency. Like cavefish losing their eyes.
So what would an alien look like? Well if it's land dwelling an internal skeleton of some sort is the most energy efficient way to move easily. And it won't need more then four limbs when you're large, so nature would have long shaved off unnecessary costly limbs. It could still look pretty inhuman sure. But it's not gonna be a boneless lovecraftian polyp brimming with eyes and limbs either.

Why people can't understand the difference between faith and religion I will never understand. The idea of God is so magnificent that denial of his existence is too powerful for some to imagine, and yet necessary for the meaning for other's existence. I agree, it will take science forever to prove God

@bioklcrawford The point I am trying to make is that, the understanding of God might be wrong, he might not have multiple hands, super powers, flying through the sky and so on, but there can be a possible explanation and logic behind the way a superior being works. I don't think we have sufficient evidence or knowledge to determine that to be a fact. So far, all the evidence and observations we make point to an old earth, with life changing over time through abiogenesis, and a universe which is billions of years old.
Was this all started by some intelligent form? We don't know. But we can't just conclude it was.

= God Exists =
= God Does Not Exist =
One of those statements must be true, and one of those statements must be false. But a rejection of position a does not mean an acceptance of position B. I reject both of those positions and suspend judgement. In other words, I do not accept as true that god exists, or that he doesn't exist.

In other words, if you accept christanity as true, then because it contradicts for example Islam you must reject that. We are all atheists when it comes to Zeus. We could all be wrong, it could be the giant spaghetti monster who created the universe.
The only way to know what is true to any degree of certainty is through evidence.

@al3ccc Science and religion can co-exist when they are dealing with different problems. The issue comes about when we are talking about things like the origin of life. The problem is, there is simply no evidence which supports religion.
We have two statements:
=God exists=
=God does not exist=
The fact is, we cannot know based on the information available whether either statement is correct. We must suspend judgement. We cannot believe that god either exists or does not exist.

There will always be gaps, even if you took a photo of yourself every second there will be a "missing link" between those seconds.
Evolution is the same. There was not a point when humans "suddenly became human". Every new born baby is a step between what came before and what comes after. But every baby is different.

If that is so, why make , some of the dumbest assumptions like this video says. He has to assume that life just happened. And molecules just assembled themselves. There is no evidence for that. I dont get why people is still religious to this day, when we know so much about our universe that we do. How can a human being still belive in a so called god, when you see pictures of the universe? My Dad is a firm believer that the only life in the universe is on earth and that the rest of the universe is sterile. Then again, he is a Christian and does not accept Evolution. I believe that there is life out there and we may have already found it. But it is still open to debate. But when we finally confirm that there is life beyond earth, he might be gone.

I don't think the cosmos is 'brimming over' with life and intelligence.
I think worlds with life are very rare islands, and by far most of those only have microbial life. Bacteria mostly. (Like earth had for most of it's existence.)
Then amongst those rare worlds a few have more complex life. And only a tiny few of those will have intelligent life. And only a few of those will build a civilization and only a few of those don't destroy themselves the way well... WE are well on our way now.

I think in fact that even if humans WHERE to start going to other stars (Something I personally believe humanity will fail to achieve (And which may also just not be achievable even if I was more optimistic about humanity) But even if humans DID start to explore this galaxy, they will probably never run into advanced technology using aliens. Maybe some animal life and probably a few microbe worlds. But the next civilization is probably VERY far away indeed. Maybe in another galaxy

As for what aliens would be like... I'm thinking probably disappointingly mundane actually. In nature form follows function. Evolutionary pressure demands a lifeform must be efficient at SOMETHING that allows it to reproduce and be succesful. And that means shapes are limited to shapes that are good for something. Be it hunting, running, attracting mates, tool use etc.
Nature also shaves off whatever parts aren't needed out of cost efficiency. Like cavefish losing their eyes.

So what would an alien look like? Well if it's land dwelling an internal skeleton of some sort is the most energy efficient way to move easily. And it won't need more then four limbs when you're large, so nature would have long shaved off unnecessary costly limbs. It could still look pretty inhuman sure. But it's not gonna be a boneless lovecraftian polyp brimming with eyes and limbs either.
Personality depends on evolutionary background. Humans are pretty chimp-like for example.

There will be fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. There will be deer like creatures, cat like creatures, dog like creatures, and so on. But they will not exactly be like the creatures on earth. There will be differences.

If evolution is true, then there is no good and bad or good and evil, if that's the case then the legal system and what is legal or illegal does not exist and the courts shouldnt be there, so therefore, an adult can rape an infant and het away with with, after all, sexual urges was given yo us by evolution and since there's nothing like good and evil, legal or illegal, then the adult has done nothing wrong, just following his natural instincts.
