  • The real thing. By Wayne Newton

    Does anyone understand the lyrics

If so please pass them on to me

    Johnnyb5646@aol.com

  • Great Doo Wop song. Newton could and can sing. One can see why he has been around forever. Great post. Thank you.

  • Someone's skin color doesn't make a tinker's damn to me. I like his music!

  • Amen to that!

  • we just don't mention that so many Americans have Indian blood.

Hmmm ....well, lack of time? I mean, we're all a bunch of different bloods all mixed together. The American Indians were mixed blood as well, having originally been Asians ...

  • AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!! LOVE THIS.. VERY VERY 50'S FORSURE---GREAT SOUND --REAL HIGH SCHOOL TYPE MUSIC, I WONDER IF WAYNE HIMSELF REMEBERS DOING THIS SONG --HA HA HA!!

  • This song is simply spectacular! I am a die-hard doo wop fan. I can't stand his later image and sound but this!!!!!!!......

  • I JUST LOVE, LOVE THIS SONG FROM WAYNE NEWTON!

    HOW FANTASTIC IS THIS!

    THANK MY FRIEND!

  • awesome great tune loveit --

  • gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

  • @pearch1 why/

  • come over and check out RETARDS WITH RAYGUNS horror doo wop subscribe

  • I never liked him. Never will.

  • Hi PJ - awesome. That kid.... ...when he WAS a kid... ...could sing. Oh my 8 year old is showing HIS genius, but not in singing, but in producing contemporary music: check out the post "music by slowe1162"

  • NOT BAD PJ.................PHYLLIS

  • Thank You PJDoo Wop for all the really beautiful songs you post.

  • Wayne Newton truly could sing. His logngevity is well deserved. I read that he has mostly Native American?

  • I've read that as well Dick. Interesting we don't hear about that often

  • @PJDooWop Thanks for the commo! Hey, my name is Greg. My posting handle is in honor of Phillies and White Sox great Dick "Crash" Allen. Dick Allen's doo wop song is now a hit in Brazil!

  • I knew that your name commemorates Dick Allen, but I didn't know your actual name. A please to "meet" you Greg. Happy to hear about Echoes Of November. What an incredible tune

  • @DickAllen4HOF He is part Powhatan and Cherokee as well as German and Irish. A couple of decades ago, he was honored by a "special"--it's call--at an Indian Powwow. They gave him a shawl. He brought the house because he really knew how to dance.

  • @DickAllen4HOF -Great find. Great post. Love it!!! Thanx.

  • Great post of this rare song! I agree with you (PJDooWop) that this song was released in 1959. The Newton Brothers were Wayne and his older brother Jerry. I think they performed together from approximately 1958 to 1962 or 1963. Thanks for posting this one.

  • Thanks for listening, and thanks for the insight

  • Do you suppose this was one of those songs that only got regional airplay - either in the Nashville TN, or Hollywood CA area?

  • The A-side of this is called I Spy. It may have been a regional hit, but I'm not sure. I think it did end up on Billboard but did poorly

  • Thank you for positng this!!! It is fun to go back and listen to Wayne when he was so young,. He is a wonderful person and great friend. Thanks for all of the good years Wayne!! Your shows have been a great inspiration to me.

    Judy OK

  • core blimey this is lovey ...

  • This is truly a piece of classic forgotten Doo Wop history. This has had to precede Wayne Newtons Danke Schoen.Incredible I am guessing maybe 1961....

  • '59 as far as I know

  • AWESOME WAYNE..!

  • He is a very versitile performer, awesome song.

  • donde puedo consegir esta cancion????????

  • Awesome! Who would have thought? I've never heard of this side of him. Thank you.

  • AWESOME!!!1

  • Thanks again - Kepp up the great work - Dj

wayne N -singing doo wop!!!! my word!!!

  • Again, yet another piece of music I have fell in love with! This, for me, optimises what I like about early 1960s music. The backing vocals, the wail of Wayne's voice as he fades out at the end, the steady doo wop beat, the melody...everything!

  • Thx PJ...nice tune. Wayne can wail!! Love it!!!

  • Amazing...Thanks for posting it..

    BB

  • You're very welcome

  • maybe it was because he was a bad singer and an early version of the osmonds/jacksons.this song just didn't have the stuff to go the distance!

  • I don't know if I can agree that he was a bad singer.. He holds some difficult notes here, but his enunciations do drive me crazy. It's funny that the same quirk that bugs me is what made him a millionaire

  • Still one of the best on YT! It's amazing how this was kept from the public. Although, this was the same year Alan Freed got nailed. Wayne was a neewbie in 59, something happened, this should have been a big hit, it was right in the groove along with Connie Francis, Sadaka, it was right there! I often wondered if some of the big artist paid off some smaller people not to play certain songs in fear of competition. I don't know but something really went wrong this record.

  • It's possible that Capitol shelved it. Sometimes big labels would sign an act in the sole purpose of not pushing their record. This way they were guaranteed that this act wouldn't be competition for their current artists. I'm not sure why Capitol would have shelved The Newton Bros and then pushed Wayne on his own, but stranger things have happened

  • This is Wayne and his Brother Jerry, Rare Stuff!

  • Too bad he isn't still doing this type of music instead of the Las Vegas crap.

  • All of the early Newton Brothers/Wayne Newton releases are all great. The Real Thing is a notch above all of them though. This is a tough one to find. I found it a few months ago on Ebay for $75.00. Also check out Born When You Kissed Me by Wayne and his brothers.

  • I never heard that... Will definitely track it down. Depending on the condition, $75 is a very good deal. The few clean copies I've seen have sold for $100 and up

  • Thanks PJDooWop.

    This is realy good DOO-WOP.

  • WOW! This is so nice! Wayne Newton and his brothers singing a doo wop ballad! Love it!!!!!!

  • Another one you might want to check out is Tears are falling by the Blue Jays if you don't already have it. This song is almost never played. It's a goodie

  • That's an awesome record. It's not very expensive, but it's terribly hard to find. I'll get my hands on a copy one of these days

  • PJ. Do you have the the song -Beverly my Darling- by the Individuals? Just wondering.

  • I don't have that one yet... That's a very rare record. I know it was comped on a Music City cd and The Rare Doo Wop box set, but I don't really buy cds.. The money I'd shell out for a few cds I'd rather put towards records.

  • classic doowop sound

  • WOW!, Nice

  • Y'know these records you've never heard of by someone you have heard of that just makes your jaw drop? Wow! And he had ties with Capitol long before those Red roses/Blue lady/Danke Schoen Jackie Gleason show slog tune stops. P.J., you do find superb records!!!

  • I really appreciate the kind words.. This is the product of many years of searching, and I'm nowhere near done :)

  • He also did a rockabilly on ABC Paramont in the late 50's

  • Never expected to like a Wayne Newton record...but this one's pretty good...thanks for sharing

  • I thought the same thing when I first heard this.

  • Great record! fabulous guitar sound on this - real twang!

  • Anyone can write the lyrics plx? I can't find it...

  • I'd try but I don't understand a few of the lyrics.

  • so try it please, whatever...

  • I spy was a good one too. I also recall one Be Careful Heart or something with heart in the title.

  • Their follow up was called Heart

  • Very nice. Do you also have the flipside "I Spy"? Can you post it? This was big in New Delhi when it came out.

  • Interesting. I was not aware of this.. That means Indian pressed 78s of this must be out there. I've already gotten a few requests to post I Spy and will do so soon

  • In the mid-to late '50s tradition of young teen boy singers, such as Frankie Lymon, Little Anthony, The Students, The Schoolboys, Tiny Tim and the Tots, and the list goes on. Of course, lately a solid copy of many of those sounds by Kid Kyle today. Really great cut.

  • awesome!!

  • This was released on ABC Paramount in Australia, way back in 1960, and i bought it! still the got the rare thing somewhere.. loive it, and i agree I SPY is a way better song but i love it!

  • This is cool. I also have the same DJ copy of of this by Wayne. In fact, the flip side, "I Spy" is even better than thisone but I am amazed someone else had a copy of this scarce record! SING IT WAYNE!

  • this was made when music was pure and inoccent . Reminds me of malt shops and saddle shoes. Artists should bring this genre back it's timeless.

  • Thanks for posting this, PJ DooWop. But actually, it wasn't Wayne Newton and his brothers. There was only one brother. Wayne and Jerry Newton were the Rascals in Rhythm. The other voices in this record are studio singers.

  • didn't know that. I assumed they were the singers being they got top billing on the label

  • awesome and so romantic

  • Even Wayne could sing Doo_Wop, the greatest sounding music to one's ear. Good job PJDooWop

  • Where the h-ll was this hiding, WOW!!!!!!!

I never knew this existed, super PJ, thanks!

  • First time ive heard this, sounds great, thanks for the posting.

  • Great post, this would be around 1958-9 ?

Wayne Newton always a favorite - Gene

  • This fills my

    soul with AWE

    (...AWE SHUCKS!)

  • I'm glad

  • Didn't know Wayne did this one..sound good though...John

  • Yeah.. Most people aren't aware of this song. Capitol didn't do much distribution. I've heard that this was only released as a DJ promo and never made it to the public. If a stock copy were to come up it would probably command a lot of money.

  • This is awsome! ***** and than thank santamara for shareing

  • very nice thanks ***** and than thank santamara for shareing

  • This is awsome!

    Great post, thank you!

  • Thank you for the listen and share

  • I don't know if Wayne Newton even remembers doing this. This song might be something that Kid Kyle might add to his repetoire.

  • Whoa! What a voice! and REALLY nice song! Thanks for posting! Must be a thrill to uncover this stuff!

  • Super nice

  • thanx for share all your beautiful songs!!!!!! greetings from guadalajara, mexico!

  • You're welcome

  • beautiful song, my friend

  • Thank you

  • I was just looking at some vegas videos, and now this! wow, outstanding PJ!

  • Thanks man

  • For all of the crap that Wayne released (i even found an LP he put out containing a version of the song "Honey"), he had some releases that are really freaking good.....and this is one of them!

  • Lol... I agree

  • damn!!!!!!!! this is trippin me out!!! how old do you thing he was??

  • He must have been a young teen. I'd say 12 or 13, although he may have been younger.

  • After doing some research I think he was in his late teens when he did this

  • Mercy, this is awesome! A doo wop from Wayne Newton. Who would have guessed?!

  • That was my reaction when I first came across this. Another collector made me aware of this about ten years ago. I found this copy earlier this year.
