@redcomic619 your also wrong there. In a few year a High-speed train called zip line will be introduced to Rochester. It will get us to minneapolis in about 30 minutes. And I also think they will be connecting it to Chicago.
this ticks me off about rochester mn... theres alot of logos that are of the geese but yet we are trying to get rid of them at silver lake..... and its illegal now to feed the geese which is idiotic.. everytime i see one of those statues it makes me want to puke......
@skatefuckyea Judging by your username im guessing your a skateboarder? Hows the skate scene there? Hahahaha! Here in Rochester, NY we got Krudco and Old Skull skate shops as well as TONS of skate spots, Manhattan Square park in downtown Rochester, ROC City skate park and other parks in the suburbs. Fuck you. Rochester, MN sucks NYC's cock.
@redcomic619 no.. i actually dont skate anymore i love to hunt and fish and ride dirt bike i dont even live in rochester i live in the country soo fuck my dick.?
@redcomic619 You are wrong. Rochester, MN is much better for many reasons. Lower crime, one of the best school districts, great medical care, and a very diverse and accepting community. You should be honored that a great city is named after yours. And if it wasn't a good city, it wouldn't be the fastest growing city in Minnesota, and one of the fastest in the country.
@BurghDeRott Good points, ill even admit that the Rochester, NY schools are shit. The problem with your theory is that Rochester, MN is completely isolated from any major cities. It's an hour and a half away from Minneapolis-St. Paul and 5 hours away from Milwaukee. For nature, you have things like Rice Lake. Rochester, NY has Toronto 3 hours away, Niagara Falls just an hour away, Letchworth State Park (the Grand Canyon of the east) under 45 minutes away and hell, Philly is relatively close.
I was born there in '68. My father worked at the IBM. We moved about the time I was 3 and lived several other states as he was transferred to other IBM's. My memory of it is foggy, but I can recall bits. I believe I can recall Silver Lake with the geese, the IBM facility, and our home, not bad for so long ago.
Thanks for the great video to bounce memories off of. :)
actually I do, and Rochester is oppressive if you live in the metro, you would know there is way more to life! And the only big building in that town is that hospital, what a fucking joke! No theatre district, no art, no class! Its a depressing little town with no economical growth, its like cancer, slowly dying.
The largest building isn't owned by the mayo clinic actually. It's a private residential condo building at about 350 feet tall. Actually, it's the tallest residential building in any city of 200,000 or less in the US. There's actually about 10 buildings downtown which are at least 200 feet tall as well. For a town of 105k people, that's fairly good. I know places 200k that don't have even half of that.
And little economic growth? You've obviously never spent much time in Rochester. In 2007 alone, $1.3 billion was spent in Rochester on just retail (food, restaurant, cars, clothes, etc). This does not count services, new homes, or anything like that. $1.3 billion spent in one year in a town of 105k people is a lot on just retail. Rochester is also one of 8 places outlined by MSNBC as where the recession has mostly missed.
Your "dying slowly" claim is also hilarious. Rochester has been in the top 10 fastest growing cities for the last 15-20 years. The 2000 census had Rochester at 85,000 people. As of this year, according to the Mayor there's about 105,000 people in the city. That means over 20,000 people have moved to Rochester in the last 8 or so years.
You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.
@sinethndos Wrong. The tallest building is the 350 ft BridgeStreet Broadway Plaza, completed in 2004, and is in no way related to Mayo. You know absolutely nothing about Rochester. There is a lot of economic growth, there is a theatre and art district.
And about the big buildings, Rochester has several over 250ft, where most cities it's size have a tallest of about 150. It IS the fastest gowing city in MN and one of the fastest for the country. You are a fricking idiot.
I grew up in Rochester until i was about 17 and its not much but i wouldn't by any means call it a hick town, "Sinethndos", Minneapolis is a nice little city but its the same social dynamic as in Rochester, just less people. Anywhere where is this less population, there will automatically be less culture, its inevitable. Freshen up, "Sinethndos" you probably dont even live in Minneapolis.
wow! what a depressing hillbilly town, I give it two thumbs down. come up to Minneapolis to truly enjoy what we call civilization, not that crappy small hick town shit.
I am a Sicilian boy (Italian, that lives in a called country Valguarnera Caropepe, near to Enna. I have some relatives to Rochester. Unfortunately they don't know that I exist, because they have left a long time ago away Italy quite a lot. I have tried to contact finding them some emails of theirs, but I have never received an answer. I have other shed relatives for USA but I don't know them. However Rochester is a beautiful city.
